Take the last S out of the close tag.

Just out of curiosity why can't the advertisements mention "Also for GameCube." I know it's technically a different game with the added features but still it could try to get the GC a few more sales. Hell, I don't know.

Gamestop, EB, and Game Crazy don't have the PS2 RE4 demo :-(
I preordered the premuim edition and all I got was the Dragon Quest 8 demo :-/

I'm surprised the GC edition isn't Player's Choice in order to not drop off the face of the Earth when the PS2 version hits. Then again, I doubt Capcom would want to ruin PS2 sales, either.

That's because I KNEW IT WAS YOU.

:lol more like you didnt have enuff room.

actually i completely skipped the area where it was at

you know, the room where you have to extend the "bridge" to the other side of the room? i just bolted through the door and went straight to chapter 4-1.

actually i did use the rocket launcher...on the final boss of course. how could i not use it? killing the final boss with the RL is like a staple of the RE series :P

Im damned well going to buy this. I rented and beat it on GC but this does look like the definitive version. I really have been wanting to play through it again, so this looks like a good way to go.

Oh man, I can't wait to get my LE from Capcom. Should be shipping in two weeks. I can't freaking wait to play through it again and again, yet again. I think I am going to play through the GC version just a few days before my PS2 version comes in so I can be prepared to note all of the differences.

No doubt. Spamming about "superior version omgwtflolrz"

Resident Evil 4 rules.

In the words of Mardock from the "Stimutacs" episode from Sealab 2021 (if you haven't already seen it, check it - it's hilarious)

I totally already know that.

I really hope this thread doesn't turn in another one of those. Hell, someone might as well make an official thread about that. :lol

mind as well create a "Official RE4 PS2 vs GC thread" cause this thread is gonna get ugly in a few weeks (or sooner considering the post count rate right now) :P

The PS2 version is better.

There, I said it.

Whether you agree or disagree, just leave it at that. Lets enjoy the damn game for what it is, one of the best fucking games of this generation.

I've been very reluctant to say this ever since August, but it's really true. The GC version, however, ISN'T at all bad or even inferior. Yeah, leave it at that. :D

Ya people. STFU about the definitive version shit. i dont think anyone realy cares anymore.

No one cared before either, except the trolls with that shit.

I think some PS2ers were just jealous anyway and that's why they said what they did. We got to play one of the sweetest games of all time before they did, so it was a sour grapes kind of thing.

Anyhow, sure this has some extras in it, but the core game is the same I am sure. All that extra fluff doesn't mean much to me in most games anyhow. I will play through it once, or twice in the case of RE4 which is a rarity with me and games, and then be done with it.

I don't have RE4 anymore, and I probably wouldn't really load it up except for maybe to show someone else anyhow, but that game was the best I ever played bar none.

I am curious about one thing -- when Capcom ports RE4 (and everything else) to other systems in the future, which version will they port? Or will they just put together a hybrid version?

I'll probably get the PS2 version when it drops down to $20. But since I already own the GameCube version I don't want to pull full price for it again.

But, if you don't own a GameCube and Resident Evil 4, and you're just a PlayStation 2 owners...GET THIS GAME!

Probably PS2.

It's a shame we couldn't get to the mytical 10,000 posts, but than the old thread is spoiler city. As for this version of RE4, yes I'm getting it. RE4 kicks so much ass, everyone should buy it twice!!

I just watched the entire demo video. Wow, Capcom did an incredible job, easily one of PS2's best looking game. The team is talented, especially since this a port from a game designed around another's hardware. I would love to see what they can do PS2's hardware with a proper dev time of a game designed around PS2 from the get go.

yeah its really a close call. in some shot the ps2 win and in some the gc win. but overall you can see the gc version wins, although not by much (quite logic really).

igns h2h will hopefully be great (in video form and all).

Well overall, the PS2 version looks darker, and it kinda gives the impression that there's more detail going on than there is. However, you can tell Capcom got rid of unnecessary extras (some trees here and there), and some of the lighting isn't as good (particularly on the top floor of the first house). Still a pretty damn good looking port though, and it should play rather smoothly.

Then again, I'm not a graphics whore, so I barely know what I'm talking about.

Just a random RE4 moment: I was heading back
in the boat to where I had come after killing Del Lago, and I was NOT expecting the parasite dogs to be there. Surprised the shit outta me. I didn't even know you could go *back* there. Never considered it.

Hopefully i will pick this up. Ive never properly played through an RE game, but because of all the praise this one has got, Ive cant resist buying it.

That screenshot comparison is very well done. The GC has the edge in visuals IMO. The lighting appears better and the textures are sharper.

Anyone who doesn't play this game is seriously missing out.

It seems like a case of doubt in the PS2 capabilities on Capcom part. Capcom could have reached the visuals seen in RE4 long time ago. They just didn't shoot for it.

This head2head helps you notice the dithering in the GC version in comparison. I also noticed a lost in evironment detail(PS2).
Yeah. You can see in the comparison the GC version has a LOT more trees going on.

those are some huge cut backs on the ps2 version..almost everything looks downgraded..textures, lighting, models, models completely gone..plus the fact that all the cut scenes are now movies..pretty major differences...it still looks decent though and the game is great no matter what.

I wouldn't doubt it. Reading some of the interviews, they did sound really unsure of what they can do at first, it wasn't until the team really got going that they surprised themselves what they could do. They admitted they and other talented teams could push the PS2 even harder than what they achieved with the RE4 port, hence why I would really like them to flex more of their programming muscle on a dedicated game, and also see how far the the RE4 engine could go.

I wonder if inversely, the GC could perfectly handle RE4 if it were being ported from PS2 (assuming it were built with the PS2 in mind). In that sense, with Capcom, I think the results would be just the same.
