Well, won't scenes take a little longer to load up, not to mention the graphics might be a little different than the actual game?
THey load up completely instantly, but they do look a little different.

OMG!!!

Just made it to the boat.

Amazing that that's realtime (on the GC).

Yep, all the time is real. It gets better the further you get into the game.

Question for those with a little tech knowledge, I was wondering if its possible the Lava Room section was running in 24bit color on the GC, also is it possible to have certain parts of game run at a higher color than others, due to technical restraints?

The reason I ask is because that section doesn't seem to display any dithering at all, IIRC.

So in other words, Capcom took the real-time cutscenes from the Gamecube version and turned them into FMV for the PS2 version. Can't say I am really surprised as it's basically a given the PS2 can't do a lot of things visually the Gamecube can. I think this was the best thing Capcom has done for the PS2 version to make up for the minor downgrades in the in-game graphics. The only negative to it is that the cutscene graphics will look much better than the in-game graphics. Please do note that although they are FMV's now the visual quality on them wasn't improved, rather the cutscenes in the PS2 version look exactly as they did in the Gamecube version.

When the first vids of RE4 on PS2 were released, the Krauser knife fight QTE seem to lack some lighting.

Is this really true? Are parts that were totally real time now just CG movies?
Most of them seem to be. From all I've seen of the game (just the early portion), the only cutscene that was defintiely realtime was the one when you look through the binoculars - and that is only after the view switches through the binoculars, the setup scene showing Leon looking through them is FMV too. The other one that might have been realtime is the boulder escape scene where you have to tap the button. I guess they had to make it realtime because the boulder can crush you at any time if you stop tapping.

I think it was a bad thing to do this, as the cutscenes look at the same time better and worse than the gameplay. Compressed FMV of realtime footage just loses definition and has that off-blurry appearance. Overall, I felt the cutscenes just looked worse due to this, even though they display some better lighting and effects here and there, and they also look different from the gameplay graphics, you can tell where the gameplay ends and cutscene begins a lot easier than if everything was realtime.

Maybe on some crappier TVs it won't be as noticable, but I have a feeling in progressive scan it's going to be plain as day :\

The boat part is crazy, and I appreciate the fact that it's real time because you can see the harpoon stuck in the 'thing' right where you threw it. I was quite impressed by that.

As if you needed those scores to buy the damn game. :D
i'm already sold. it could have gotten a 5 and i'd still buy it :D

i'm just glad it gets great scores so the people who are on the fence finally give in and buy it.

Indeed. These kinds of scores should definitely help boost sales, all of which RE 4 deserves.

Hmmmm, really? I hear it frequent enough.

Anyhow, superior version aside, it's a great game. If the FMV shit is true, I would be a little let down. That would mean
the fight against Krausser may not be able to be played like you could in the GC version
.

The superior graphics version of the game is the GC.

The superior extras version of the game is the PS2.

There is no "superior version".

did anyone else know RE4 PS2 got a 10/10 by Game Informer? I'm currently reading the scan... so it's four straight 10/10 now.

just saw a tv commercial...just as shitty as the GC commercial :|

same style, same narrator, same shitty music

Should these new Ada missions be considered cannon? I don't think they were made with Mikami's approval, were they?
of course he he approved, its his game.

GI: Did Mikami come up with and direct this portion of the game or did you?

Kawata: Me and my team came up with the idea. We first showed it to Mikami after we had most of it fleshed out. We basically got his approval for it and he said, “I like it. Go with it.”
