she cant utilize a regular serve because of her injury. someone said earlier in the thread that she is trying to replicate his style. i dont know if that was a guess or an interview, but she needs to do something.

They said it on TV. She IS replicating the motion, she just needs to improve the accuracy is all.

I am secretly hoping that Safina pulls herself together and wins the U.S. Open. I don't care if Serena has won 3 of the last 4 slams, she doesn't bother to put any effort outside of the slams. The rankings system is based on how you do the entire year not on how you do in the 4 GS tournaments.

If she takes out a single opponent that doesn't choke in the last set/2 sets then yes, I'd want her to win.

Whoa, wtf at the winners differential in this match :lol Kvitova 47 vs 12 Safina. Is Safina playing?

Haha very nice last point! Lol Safina.

It was only a matter of time before Safina lost with the way she was playing.

Henin needs to come back and kick all of the WTA's collective asses.

my mind is just boggled by this tournament. i mean what the fuck?

safina out and Maria isnt even in it to win. fuck.

Fucking Roddick. I expected an early exit for Blake, but not you Roddick. Welp, thats about it for US Men. Dent will lose to Murray tomorrow and Jisner will lose whoever he faces next. *sigh*

At least Oudin didn't disappoint. And I just noticed she has faced a russian opponent every single round. good for her. her next opponent is russian and if she beats petrova, she may have russian kutznetsova next. damn.

Once again, Safina won't be winning a major. It would be awesome if Caroline Wozniacki can take it all. I like her a lot.

If Serena wins the tournament, Safina is still #1.

She deserves all the crap she gets for being a bullshit #1

Other than Roddick's Wimbledon run, male American tennis is an absolute disgrace. Actually, when the Williams sisters retire, tennis in America looks pretty desolate.

What channel have you guys been watching these late matches on?

I missed all of them because I've only been watching ESPN2 and CBS.

It's so strange to me when people hate athletes that seem like genuinely nice people on and off the court. He ate his humble pie years ago and hasn't won anything significant in a long while, so it can't even be the "hating on a champion mentality" that plagues Federer and Nadal.

Well at least he didn't lose to Federer. He can only blame himself for losing to anyone else.

Fucking John Isner. I won't be so pissed at Isner if he at least gets to the semis like Roddick probably would have. But I have a feeling he will choke before then. How dare an American screw over another American.

Not that I hate him as a personality, I think he is a cool guy off the courts but his way of play just does not suit me, the way he dresses does not help either, cap and awful shorts, at the end of day all this teaches us is that you can not win anything significant with only a perfect serve :D

The ranking in the women's tennis has been pretty wild recently. From a constant shuffle of the top place earlier this year, to the current number one that has never won a Slam. Wtf is going on.

Anyhow, I hope Serena and Federer win. :D

Thank heavens the boring boar Safina is out! Now let's see a final between Oudin and Clijsters and pretend Oudin is Henin. They've got the same -in-sound. Maybe she'll win a slam at 17 like Sharapova?

If federer wins the open then it will be the 3rd year where federer has won three grand slam tourneys and lost the 4th to nadal in the finals :lol

Newman!.. I mean Rafa!

For the women, the draw has become unfathomably lopsided. On the top half, all the favourites are gone. We're left with: Kvitova, Wickmayer, K. Bondarenko, Dulko, Oudin, Petrova, Wozniacki and Kuznetsova, one of whom will reach the final.

On the bottom half, all the favourites remain, and the finalist will have to brutally fight her way through a field of Serena, Venus, Clijsters, Pennetta, Zvonareva.

Suffice to say, it will be an upset if someone from the top half wins it.

You make that sound like a bad thing.

What's Safina supposed to do? Ask the WTA not to give her the #1 ranking? She didn't make up the rankings rules

Poor Safina, I wonder if any no1 ranked player will ever be as humiliated as she was against Venus at Wimbledon.

Well, if you look at just numbers, Federer lost to Nadal 6–1, 6–3, 6–0 at the 2008 French Open.

What's with this "changing of the guard" talk when it comes to Roddick and Isner? If Isner is the future of men's US tennis then it's in deep shit.

Agreed, Isner is 24 years old and has a huge serve on which the fast court helps tremendously with. I just don't see it with Isner, at best he's a slightly better Karlovic. No offense to Isner, but yeah. Well done by Oudin.
