Somewhere, Roger Federer has burst into a fit of uncontrollable laughter.

Isner defeated Roddick, Cilic defeats Murray, Nadal can't move around.

Wow Murray!! You continue to underwhelm at GSs (not that I am complaining).

He is the Safina of the ATP tour! Good at everything except GSs

Nadal is going to be on fire tonight, but I think Monfils will be pumped up too.

Man I can' wait for the Open to start, I just hope that at least one dark horse can make it to the semis (Maybe Marin finally can show his true potential). One of my highlights comes right in the first round when Jürgen "Jürgsi"´Melzer plays against Safin, should be on a showcourt since it probably will be Marats last match at the Open.

Finals (without looking at the draw, so no clue if it's possible :lol )

Fedbot - Del Potro
S.Williams -
Dementieva

Now go and get the title Baby Goran Jr.! !(btw. wassup with Mario, did he retire already or is he just injured again?)

Has Federer faced any big injuries during his career?

No he is Fedgod. Tennis requires no effort. He won the US Open while suffering from fucking mono. Fedgod. Bow.

Than that makes his career all the more impressive. His conditioning is unbelieveable. He'll probably be very competitive for years to come.

The style that he plays minimizes injury risks too. He'll probably be competing for GS titles early into his thirties.

If Monfils is as consistent (his biggest enemy) as he was the other night he might actually take Nadal out. I don't want Fed to win but not sure if some of the guys are up to taking him out yet, Del potro and Tsonga might be though. Also lol at Murray...lol

Murray definitely needs to improve his offensive game.

I agree, while his defensive game is very good, sometimes particularly against the very low ranked players, he seems to be content to just put the ball in the opponents half and rely on them to make a crapload of mistakes.

His game wouldn't be the same though I feel. Him waiting for an opponent to make a mistake whilst executing precise shots is a bit of an asset even if its boring because a lot of them usually break out of fraustration. Murray is a very technical player and not too much of a brawny one. I think if he starts trying to be more offensive a whole lot of whole will appear in his current style to take advantage of. It's worth a try though, but personally I don't think it would work for him. Oh and Tsonga seems to be pumped for this match :O .

Melanie Oudin continued her remarkable run at the 2009 U.S. Open with another come-from-behind, upset victory today over No. 13 seed Nadia Petrova. After dropping the first set 6-1, Oudin stormed back to win a second set tiebreak and then ran away with the deciding set, 6-3.

With the win, the unseeded 17-year old in the pink shoes advanced to her first Grand Slam quarterfinal and fully cements her status as America's next tennis princess.

Love -- Cinderella never wore shoes like this. The pink and yellow color scheme for the customized adidas sneakers was selected by Oudin herself. (Apparently one doesn't need an eye for fashion to be great at tennis.) Before the Open, adidas said Oudin's shoes wouldn't be available to the public. Given the attention Oudin is drawing, the company might want to rethink that decision.

15 -- Instead of putting her name on the heel of the shoe (as was originally designed), Oudin asked to have the word "BELIEVE" instead. She said her boyfriend (who is 15 years old -- yeah, you read that right) came up with the idea. In addition to providing the inspiration for the shoe, Oudin's beau was her hitting partner Thursday morning during the teen's first trip to Arthur Ashe Stadium.

30 -- Ever subtle, the PA guys at Arthur Ashe Stadium played Cher's 1999 hit 'Believe' after Oudin's win today.

40 -- Martin Rogers writes today that Oudin has long desired to have a "normal" life, but that she's now finding out that such normalcy may be overrated. For more about Oudin, read the post we wrote about her in June.

Love -- Oudin will play the winner of tonight's No. 9 Caroline Wozniacki v. No. 6 Svetlana Kuznetsova match. Seeing as how Oudin has defeated a Russian in each round of the Open thus far (Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, Elena Dementieva, Maria Sharapova and Petrova), she should be pulling for Kuznetsova. The starting time of the match won't be released until tomorrow, but given Oudin's sudden rock star status, expect her quarterfinal to be in primetime.

Lol Murray

I think Fed will win this but Nadal will push him all the way.

Barring further injuries, I can see Nadal dominating Fed next year.

hmmm, when the commentator was talking about him, she said he was 16. they were still impressed haha. it's weird though how her twin looks like she's 2 years younger than oudin. when she started crying i thought it was very similiar to the girl who cried in the audience of american idol when sanjaya sang.

Injuries to who? The only time Nadal dominated was when Fed had mono.

I'm pretty sure Fed didn't have mono at Australian Open 2009. Oh, and I guess his domination of Federer on clay doesn't count?

Yeah people forget that Nadal is still improving and imo fed has peaked.

I love Fed and would love to see him dominate for another 5 years. Nadal has Feds measure though. The mono excuse is lame. He pumps fed on clay, and Fed didn't have mono at this years Aussie open.

Domination on one surface doesn't mean domination on all surfaces.

With regards to the Aussie 2009, Federer still wasn't 100% There are some who will tell you he's STILL not 100% even today.

People have to face it, nobody beats Federer but himself

Are Murray and Nadal the only players who can beat Fed here?

I personally think a few others have a chance.

People keep saying Tsonga, but Gonzalez is giving him enough trouble right now.

But it is domination all the same.

If Nadal left tennis today, people would remember him as the guy who could beat Federer.

He never said that he wasn't 100% besides in Australian Open 2008. People like to make excuses, but the stats speak for themselves. Nadal owns Federer head to head, including or excluding their slam matches.

You don't have a 13-7 record against Federer by chance.

Yeah on clay. It's 5-4 Fed on other surfaces. Clay has been the bane of many a tennis player over the years. Guys like Sampras never even had a sniff on clay. Federer is SO good a player he can still be 2nd best on clay and that's to a guy people call "the best ever on clay". That's no small feat.

What about excluding clay? Does he still "own" him?

Why would you exclude any surface? You said that the only person that can beat Federer is himself, but the stats say otherwise. Federer is up 2-1 on grass, and they are tied 3-3 on hardcourts. Without clay, it makes this "rivalry" seem closer than it really is.

Federer won't say it cause he's far too classy for that. He doesn't totally pull out of a grand slam being the defending champion because he's too injured to play.

Many commentators have mentioned how the mono would have screwed up his regular training schedule and in doing throw off his entire year given all the tournamants the guys play. He wasn't close to 100% in any of the slams last year but he made the finals of 3 of them and won one of them. That is the make of the man, the greatest of all time.

I don't disagree that he is the greatest of all time but if Nadal remains injury free, I believe he can dominate for the next 6-7 years and possibly win 20 slams

That Nadal loss was a fluke. If he won, Federer would have been routed yet again.

Yes, like it was a fluke that Federer beat Nadal at Madrid just before the French.

Nadal is probably the best clay court player ever, but he is beatable.

I'm sure there's a player out there that could beat Federer while playing on cedar, because Fed hasn't learned the nuances of the surface yet.

Nadal's domination was always clay because he wasn't good enough to make the finals of the other slams while Fed was winning them all. As soon as Nadal stopped losing to other guys and made the finals, it happened when Fed had mono. Bad luck for Federer, great timing for Nadal. Now that Fed is winning again it'll be interesting to see a Nadal/Fed final again, provided Nadal doesn't lose to someone else. But of course he'll be injured in that case.
