Damn, would've been awesome with Monfils in a final. Think he maybe could pull some extra strength up. Love that guy.

Goddamn rude that Djokovic and Verdasco have the same coloured shirts. Hard to tell who's who from my shitty stream. Luckily Verdasco at least had the decency to wear a hat.

It's so the crazy people won't know who to kiss.

Williams sisters are now comfortably handling the Chinese girls.

Verdasco up a break to Djokovic in the second set after losing the first one.

I don't understand Monfils, he's big and strong yet after 2 sets he's pretty much done. Dude needs some serious cardio training. He's very entertaining to watch.

I asked this in the "This is the thread for stupid questions..."

Can somebody explain why the first and second point are worth 15, then the third 10, and finally the last 5, and also why is 0 called love?

They're all worth one point, 15, 30, 40, etc. are labels.

it was a false statement, the males are enjoyable to watch, but I prefer the females playing for obvious reasons. I really didn't appreciate his reaction to my honest question.
Djokovic, was hilarious with his impression of McEnroe, but he's not looking so hot right now.

Only women worth watching are Kirilenko and maybe Dulko (imho offcourse)

And sorry if you took offense, for someone who grew up with tennis it's just a funny question. But I understand that for someone who never watched the sports its kinda odd. There some reason they count that way but my english is way too bad give a good explanation..

There really isn't a practical reason and the backstory behind the scoreboard counting is made up of opposing anecdotes and guesswork, mostly.

Some of the theories can be found on wikipedia:
The running score in each game is described in a manner peculiar to tennis. Scores of zero to three points are described as "love" (or "zero"), "15", "30", and "40", respectively. The origins of the 15, 30, and 40 scores are believed to be medieval French[citation needed]. It is possible that a clock face was used on court, with a quarter move of the hand to indicate a score of 15, 30, and 45. When the hand moved to 60, the game was over. However, it was realized that the game could then be won by luck, and so the idea of "deuce" was introduced. In order to make the score still within the ""60"" ticks on the clock face, the 45 was changed to 40. Therefore, if both players have 40, the first player to score receives ten and that moves the clock to 50. If the player scores a second time before the opponent is able to score, they are awarded another ten and the clock moves to 60. The 60 signifies the end of the game. However, if a player fails to score twice in a row, then the clock would move back to 40 to establish another "deuce"[citation needed].

Another theory is that the scoring nomenclature came from the French game jeu de paume (a precursor to tennis that substituted the racquet for a hand). Jeu de paume was very popular before the French revolution, with more than 1,000 courts in Paris alone. The traditional court was 90 ft in total with 45 ft on each side. When the server scored, he/she moved forward 15 ft. If he/she scored again, he/she would move another 15 ft. If he/she scored a third time, he/she could only move 10 ft closer.[citation needed]

The origin of the use of "love" for zero is also disputed; it is possible that it derives from the French word for the egg (l'œuf) because an egg looks like the number zero. "Love" is also said to derive from "l'heure" or "the hour" (more likely to be translated as "the time") in French. Another possibility of the origin comes from the Dutch "iets voor lof doen," which means to do something for nothing. The word 'lof' (nothing) has changed over time to 'love'.[1]

If each player has won three points, the score is described as "deuce" (from French deux meaning two [more points]) rather than "40-all". From this point on, whenever the score is tied, it is described as "deuce" regardless of how many points have been played.

So yeah, my deep thoughts on this tournament are

are

um

uh

Oudin looked like shit in the first set of her previous matches as well.

It'd be amazing if she could pull off another comeback.

Saw her last match in the rd. of 16. Fun watch, but her opponent beat herself more than oudin beat her. I don't know much about tennis, but she seems to have a lot of potential and will probably have a great career

...after this beatdown that is

Personally i think is a great story and I wouldn't care if she wins. But her upsets were against my favorite female players (Dementieva and Sharapova). I like Wozzy too, so I must hate her.
