They don't play as well, but the women in this US Open have been pretty exciting. Especially Oudin, who is about to get dismissed, sadly.

I hope Clijsters can beat Serena.

Sadly, I view men's tennis about the same as women's tennis from a competitive standpoint anymore. Sure, men's tennis is played by more athletic men, but all of the top tier talent not named Federer or Nadal have the mental toughness of a stick of butter.

It is very windy out there. Federer doesn't play his best tennis under windy conditions.. and if he plays like he did against Hewitt, then Soderling might have a chance.

How can people hate on Oudin? It's way too fun to root for her.

I don't hate Oudin. I think she's a great player, but I hate the coverage and over-hype surrounding her. The amount of hyperbole is ridiculous!

WTH ESPN? you are supposed to interview the winner right after the match I thought? Wow. :lol

And this.

Love how they interviewed the loser of the match on court. "Lets milk this more!!"

We'd like to believe effort triumphs over skill, heart over ranking, and of course youth over experience on the right day.

A big sign about how weak women's tennis is right that is the fact that a retire player could just come back and get to the semis of a slam and the only player that could beat her is a player that barely cares about anything thing other than slams.

Sure the retired player used to be a number 1 but at this point the 5 best players in women's tennis are either retired/making a comeback or doesn't care.

My feelings exactly. Why are so many of today's players so mentally fragile?

As much as I've been enjoying this US Open (I've watched more of this tournament than I have any other tournament in quite a few years), some of the matches are simply painful to watch due to the lack of "guts."

Wozniacki just apologized for beating Melanie Oudin.

That has to be a first in tennis history.

Actually, it's the second apology I've seen from a player. First one I saw was Nadal in Wimbledon when he beat Federer. Good times. :lol

Also, I want to know why the crowd booed Shriver when she said Caro was the favorite heading into the semis. Is she not the favorite? What was wrong with what she said?!

I'm sad Oudin lost, if only because she seemed to have some heart - something waaaaay too many male and female players lack these days. Unfortunately, I think the pressure finally got to her. Also, I think she would have fared better against Kuznetsova - Wozniacki is the definion of backboard, and she simply was too steady for Oudin this afternoon.

She seems smart, though, so I think she'll learn from the situation and not make the mistakes she made today/tonight next time she finds herself in that situation.

Anyway, on to the Clijsters/Serena match. Hopefully Clijsters can bring her A game and Serena will beat herself. I have to say, though, their head-to-head doesn't inspire confidence...

What's up with these announcers on the US Open site? They're constantly digging at each other.

Also the female announcer for the Oudin game was infuriating. She never spoke unless something went well for Oudin, claiming it was "momemtum" and she was this amazing godlike player. Really now.

I was rooting for Oudin, but really all the coverage she got was really getting mindnumbing.

Fed is 147-0 in majors after winning the first 2 sets. That is one messed up stat.

yeah this match is over. Soderling said in pre-match that he hopes the wind is calm today, it is the total opposite. Said he had trouble in strong wind.

Fed should turn into a complete jackass during the pre-match interviews.

So what do you expect from your opponent Roger?

"I expect him to lose, like everyone else does."
