Here is my 1st 9 hole scorecard

For a total of +6, I kept hitting it out of bounds

I threw out my arm between tennis and home run derby.

Gaming now requires stretching. Lame, Nintendo. Lame.

My left arm is sore from too much Home Run Derby :lol

So far my best is 6/10

Wii Bowling is the shit.

Me and a friend played it for a couple hours today.

Don't care for the rest of Wiisports though.

I must've pulled a muscle or messed up a tendon or something on the inside of my left arm at the elbow.... wtf... hurts like crazy.

That's what I get for playing baseball home run derby for 2 hours.

On the upside.... I did hit 616 ft when I messed up my arm.

So am I still the only one who has a hole in one so far?

It was on the 2nd hole, the wind was blowing 20 MPH to the southeast so I aimed my shot to the northwest and hit the ball and the wind picked it up and it one hopped into the cup :)

Tennis is awesome. I'm pretty good at it, you know, in real life, and there is a pretty good difference between my friend and I's performance. Which is also why he gets homer after homer and I get whiff after whiff.

Have yet to play Bowling or Golf, because Zelda is so awesome. Plus... monkey target.

I don't know why so many reviewers said Golf was broken. I think it rules. True, there are some pretty big problems: only 9 holes, only 4 clubs. But it nails a major aspect of real Golf that no video game has before. You have to take practice swings if you want to do well, and you have to be able to mimic the practice swing when actually addressing the ball.

In real Golf, people will take beautiful practice swings, but when it's actually time to hit, they will overswing and shank it. Only good players can re-create the practice swing under pressure, and the same is very true for WiiSports Golf. That, alone, makes it the best representation of Golf that I've ever played.

I bought Monkey Ball and Trauma Center w/ the system and haven't touched them thanks to the greatness of Wii Sports. Such a perfect pack-in game - I can honestly see people trying this out and buying one because of it.

Bowling and Baseball are my favorites so far - though I only played Boxing and Golf a few times. High score on Bowling is a 197, and is there a Home Run Derby mode I'm missing on Baseball?

I take back my praise for Wii bowling as I can't seem to purposely make my ball hook or slice in the wrong direction. I can rotate my wrist right or left while throwing the ball in any direction, but the ball does not always hook in the same direction, and sometimes it goes straighter than my normal throws. Can anyone determine what the controller reads to determine the hook for the ball and reproduce shots reliably? I did really well the first time I played but now I'm feeling maybe I just got lucky.

Basbeball on the other hand I'm really getting the hang of. I can definitely effect the speed and difficulty of my pitches and I can also determine the power behind my hits. Bunting in a video game has never been so fun. The other three I haven't played as much as I'd like to

wii bowling is the best game IMO, golf is great too, but i find that sometimes the sensor bar doesnt pick up my swing till mid way.

as for baseball, ive been finishing in 0-0 ties, i suck at hitting

tennis and boxing seem kind of lame

This game is going to be a huge, HUGE hit.

Bowling is so ridiculously awesome. It seems like luck at first, but after a while you realize what kind of motions you need to make the ball go where you want it to go. Tennis was okay, Baseball is great with two people, and boxing is great. Golf was okay, and you're right: practice swings are ESSENTIAL to success in that game.

I haven't even played Zelda yet. Me and my friends are addicted to this.

I agree, golf is my favorite.

I had an even 0 going into the last hole(an extremely hard hole at that) and triple bogey'd for a +3. But its my favorite.

Can you explain to me how? I am having trouble purposely curving the ball in a particular direction. I am curious if you can aim the ball to the side and get consistant results. If that is the case something may be wrong with my remote or the way I am swinging

How much are you twisting? After a while I noticed that I had to make some pretty big twisting motions to get the movement I want. I don't think it's a case of luck, it's just that Bowling is not as sensitive as you might think.

In other words, it's like real bowling.

Not saying it's PERFECTLY accurate, but after a few rounds I was able to consistently get the ball roughly where I wanted it to go. I'm already able to get spares and strikes on a FAIRLY consistent basis.

I love it but I have a slight problem with golf. Anytime you're less than 5 feet from the cup, you have to barrrrrrely hit the ball to get it in. Problem is swinging that light usually doesn't register. I have a hard time getting weak shots in. I was on my way to a birdie 3 feet from the hole, and instead I ended at +6 :(

Wii sports is way better than I thought, and I thought it would be pretty cool. My girlfriend was hesitant at first, but once she tried it she was hooked. I wish I had another controller so we could play tennis together.

color me impressed.

I was so hyped for Zelda, I thought I would play Wii sports for like 5 minutes just to get used to the wiimote. 2 hours later I was still bowling! :lol

Baseball is great once you start to undertand the pitching.

5 of us played Wiisports from 12:30am, to 8:00AM this morning.

1.)Bowling-The best, not just becuase it's a blast, but becuase it really does feel like your bowling. you can do what you want to that ball. I only wish you could choose different wieghts for the balls.

2.)Baseball-I have ZERO idea what anyone means by complaining about the pitching. Once you start to understand it, you can OWN batters left and right. Its all about the motion, and placement. WOW did we have fun with this. The sound of the ball whizzing by your ear thru the speaker kicks ASS.

3.)Boxing-fun, but holy shit do you get a workout with this bastard. To play it right, you almost have to stand up, and do the full motions. You get owned by someone properly standing and blocking ducking and weaving if your lazy. You cant get a rythm otherwise, and get pummled. Fun, but we only played a couple rounds becuase people started dropping like flys.

4.)Golf-Fun, but a more fleshed out experience is needed. Mario golf is going to be downright disgusting on this thing. The controls on this was more twitchy then any of the other sports by a wide margin.

5.)Tennis-The loss of player movement is a critical flaw. Everyone thought is was fun, and the racket controll just kills any other tennis game, well, becuase its actually movement, but not bieng able to move your charactor just kills any enjoyment. It's such a major over-sight it just kills it dead.

Overall the package is fun as hell. You can tell it's meant just to get you used to the wiimote, becuase every game is missing things to be a truly perfect experience(Save for bowling. Its almost damn near spot on. So great).

A fully fleshed out sports game, by a developer who truly takes the time to use the Wiimote properly is going to DESTRUCT any other sports game in the genre, ever, on any system.

A fully fledged out Baseball game would be just awesome. Fully fledged out Tennis would be unreal, and so on and so-forth.

Same here. My original intention was to try out all the sports then go straight to Zelda.

4 hours later and we're still playing the thing.

Ok, I was one of the people who was really pissed when Nintendo announced they were including Wii Sports with the Wii in the US for an increased price over the JPN version. "How dare they force us to buy this crappy tech demo etc, etc..."

I've had my Wii for over 12 hours now, and Zelda is still in the plastic wrap.

STILL. IN. THE. PLASTIC. WRAP.

I was wrong. Wii Sports rocks.

Couldn't disagree more. While it might make things a little less hardcore, the lack of movement makes Tennis easily understandable for the casuals. I already have people who do not play video games in the least wanting one of these things in residence, based almost purely on the basis of Tennis. Sure, they too love Bowling/Baseball when they get into them, but it's Tennis that's their gateway drug. And if you had to move AND swing? It would be far too complicated.

30 Training Age Score!

I got bronze and gold medals on a number of the training games as well.

189 is my highest bowling score.

Oh no dont get me wrong. I am ABSOLUTLY POSITIVE that when I bring my Wii to Thanksgiving, that my family will go nuts over it. The 5 we had together last night are all experienced gamers, and have had MARATHONS of Mario Tennis.

For casuals I 100%agree, its perfect. For expereinced videogame Tennis players, the lack of player movement kills it.

Was at my friend's house for a few hours today playing Wii Sports and I love Wii Golf and Wii Bowling. I'm an avid golfer and Wii golf felt great. I didn't have any trouble picking it up. I scored -1 in my first 3 holes. Putting is the hardest part, but that can also be said of real golf. Bowling is a great party game. I wish I was good in real life as I am with Wii Bowling. I was glad that I didn't have the problem of the ball constantly flying right like I've seen in so many videos. Consider me impressed. These two games alone make me want to purchase a Wii.

Maybe I'm missing something, but tennis is limited. It kinda...sucks.

Bowling is the real deal though. Still haven't try the other sports.

This game blew my mind. I didn't think it be worth much time other than to experiment with the Wii remote. But I played it at my friends house today (I can't afford a Wii right now), and I had fun with every game. There's a social aspect to playing it that's different from most games, like you're not even playing a videogame (I don't know if this would even be fun by yourself). I couldn't quit smiling or laughing while I was playing.

You nailed it. There is something viceral(sp?) about playing the Wii. When we usually get together to play Smash, Halo, e.t.c. the lights are dim, people are hunched over playing, cursing under thier breath.

Completly different experience to have everyone standing, laughing like little kids, flaling all over the place.

Fun as hell. I could see tournements set up for people to come and play the pro's.

Man what BLAST.

After Halo sessions my housemates and I became so angry at each other we had to sell the Xbox :lol

With Wii Sports we're high fiving after a strike, laughing....the ambiance of the Wii is so different.

Bowling is so damn fun. My highest score so far is 148, but my girlfriend kicked my ass with a 181 the third time she played. She frequently kicks my ass in real bowling, though :(

I'm finding it interesting that everyone's favorite element of this game is different. Reviews made a point to say how cruddy boxing was, yet...

I'm looking forward to this.

don't have a wii yet, so i've been checking out impressions and i've noticed the same thing. The reaction in reviews is almost diametricly opposed to the reaction from gamers so far. Boxing and golf are getting a lot more love than they did in reviews, and at the same time, some people seem to absolutley hate them.. It's almost like the people are playing totally different games.

I wonder if this is some byproduct of this new control method... maybe some people get the hang of it faster than others or something.

Very strange. When i hear one person talking about how amazing boxing is, and then another person says that it seems to be based on luck with no skill involved and no real control over the fists, i have to wonder what's causing such a drastic difference in perception.

all this talk has got me much more excited for wii sports than i was before and it's made me wonder about all the reviews for other games... Red steel for example seems to be getting much better reactions than i would have expected.

have you tried not doing a backswing and just flicking your wrist forward? thats how i handle my short shots

Impressions:

Bowling: Had my parents play this, COULDNT GET THEM OFF OF IT FOR AN HOUR...mom bowled a 195 on her first try, we still havent beatern her...ridiculous fun...

Tennis: My arm hurts, have been playing this ALL OUT all day with some friends, parents, my favorite of the bunch so far...frickin so fun...cant stop playing, mario tennis now plz

Boxing: Havent got a 2nd nunchuck, sold out everywhere, pending.

Golf: Too slow for me, but fun from what I dabbled in.

Baseball: Another friend favorite, my one friend who actually plays alot of ball completely killed me thought, cant quite get the pitching down, he home runs like 3 times an inning.

All in all, this has been played bar none the most so far. I popped call of duty just to see how FPs's control...and ZELDA HAS STILL NOT BEEN TOUCHED..................WTF/???/

Wii sports is ****ing amazing...completely surprised and addicted to this...

I played it with 4 people tonight. Tennis is awesome. Boxing is cool, but takes some getting used to. Bowling takes a loooong time with 4 people. That's all we tried so far, then started playing Red Steel multi.

Played 4 player tennis also, it was really fun. Bowling was my favorite though, since I used to bowl back in the day. It actually feels like your really bowling.

It's definitely an amazing experience so far, even in the short time I've played. I caught myself doing things (like taking a step to swing) that I would surely not do when playing with a conventional controller. In a way I also feel like this experience relies on imagination a lot more (in a good way) so any gamer who only uses small gestures is limiting themselves.

If Nintendo can keep this up, then the gaming world is going to get really interesting. I was also initially angry about this pack-in, but it's made me see that this console has amazing potential. And when a player is so immersed in the experience (any DDR player knows this), then little graphical problems will often go unnoticed so perhaps even some graphic whores might get a rude awakening.

Well, reviewers are the hardcore of the hardcore, seriously. It also seems like games need a certain bit of production values for someone to give out high scores instead of just how much fun it is to play.

I get a freaking grin on my face everytime I played tennis. The straight shots, lobs, and spin shots are freaking awesome.

Wii Sports was the first game I tried, figuring I'd have a taste and put it away - but it is just so gosh darn addicting. I've played it more than any of the other games I got today.

Bowling is just spot on. The same mistakes and quirks I make when I go bowling in real life, I found myself mirroring within the game. For instance, I have a natural tendency to curve left, so when I bowl I usually go as far right as I can when I bowl. I found the same technique worked for the game!

Also really enjoy Tennis, it's sorta zen, just like real life tennis. :P

I was fooling around with it earlier and for fun I made all the Mii players the exact same for the game. What I had accidentially done was "unlocked" the solo-multiplayer mode. When the game started, it went into split screen. It was then I realized I was controlling both sides. Got a bit confusing serving to myself, then returning my own lobs. :lol

Boxing is also freaking me out at how much fun it is. I tend to move around a LOT more than with the other titles tho.

It's also interesting how after you take the Wii Fitness challenge, the game sends you Wii Mail about it. I was actually shocked to see I had any letters on my system, but I got that one, then another one talking about Wii Sports in general, then another piece of mail that told me what I had been playing today. :)

Looking forward to letting my mother try this, she hasn't touched a video game since the NES days, with the exception for Tetris DS.

Up until the moment I swung the Tennis racket, a large part of me was severely disappointed with the knowledge I would not see a true HD Zelda for more years than I could probably guess. Honestly, I don't think many hardcore gamers were happy about the majority of the decisions Nintendo made with this console other than an attempt at a revolution of game control.

Well, they've certainly pulled off that revolution as far as I'm concerned. I'll never feel the same playing sports games on any other console, for example. The only remaining question is will this mass appeal have legs like the DS. We'll have a clearer picture a year from now.

If it proves to be a mass reshaping of the video game market, the implications are certainly interesting. It's a shake up I whole-heartedly welcome.

I'm getting the feeling that it's all because of gesture recognition... I'm thinking the wii is relying more on gesture recognition than it does on 3d axis detection (except in games where you use a cursor, which obviously use the sensor bar and all that)... As a result, different gamers will have different ways of performing the same action and the games have to take each possible variation into account.

for example, Wii tennis probably doesn't adjust the angle of the shot to the exact angle of your swing.. it probably determines what kind of shot your'e making (within a certain range) and produces a "canned" shot that fits within that range. It probably has like 10 canned slice angles, and it determines which one your closest too...

Because of this, the launch games, (which had to be finished quickly) aren't quite as flexible as they should be.

In some ways this actually bodes well for the future, because i was reading in another thread were a guy was playing monkey golf in SMB, and figured out that he had to do thing in a very exact/precise way to get it to work right. That means that the wiimote is actually incredibly sensitive when it comes to this gesture recognition tech.

Future games with lots of focus group testing will allow for incredibly varied actions and very precise reactions with more flexibility. I remember reading that the madden people spent a lot of time focus group testing on their gestures for that game and you can see that most people are loving it. There are very few complaints that things aren't working right.

This means that you will get an incredibly wide reaction to these launch games because for some people they will work well instantly and other people will actually have to learn to interact with the games and the movements that work will feel unnatural for them.

It's a pretty cool result, assuming my theory is right, simply because no other game console has ever had such a strange issue and it means that the wii is already bringing something new to gaming in a big way (even if it is a problem, it's still a *new* problem)

You are correct, it is a software issue. A very complicated task to get right for programmers actually. Wii games will probably have dedicated controller programmers.
