The opening song to Silent Hill 3 is AWESOME

But since I bought the game used, I don't get the soundtrack that used to come with the game. :(

I don't have the manual either, and I really want to know if this song was down by a band, or is the work of the game's composer. The latter wouldn't surprise me, since the in-game music is pretty damn good too.

But if the opening song IS by a band, I must know who they are.

it's a good thing SH3's opening song 'You're Not Here' is so awesome, because the closing track is terrible.... like a bad David Bowie wanna-be @ a drunken karaoke.

Yamaoka needs to dump that guy.

No doubt, first time in a SH game where I muted the volume during the credits.

his song on SH4 was a bit better, but still not great... but why do they use the good songs in-game during fucking dialogue scenes and then use the songs with this assclown vocalist during the credits? I hope this isn't the case for the movie and/or SH5.

I'd just like to say that Silent Hill 3 is also very, very good. The story might not be as brilliant as Silent Hill 2, but the environments have been amazing. I just got into the
office building
, and I got giddy just looking at the map. :)

And oh god the noise those
bladed wall things
make is scary :lol

Yeah I think SH3 is the most twisted/fucked up/surreal of the bunch. The second just had a more depressing atmosphere about it... it was scary-ish but the third freaked me out the most.

I love the office building- very creepy... especially the squatter's room (where you push the matress down).

You haven't seen anything yet. Just wait for the hospital.

NOTHING beats the SH2 opening soundtrack!!! Heck the whole soundtrack/game is still the best in the series in my opinion.

The lower levels of the church or whateverthefuck that place is
in SH3 remains my favorite SH location. I just found the art direction there great (well the whole game has great art direction, but that place oozes with it).

Best VG songs with vocals belong to SH3 & SH4. I really really hope we hear more of that in the future. If you liked the music in SH3 definitely check out the soundtrack to The Room.

I agree. I wish they would dump the vocal songs for SH5. No need to make it a series' mainstay like modern FFs.

I do not agree, I think what they did with SH3 and SH4 vocal songs was really good and added to the game's story-telling of the characters' tales and their emotions.

Nope.

You simply cannot top the opening theme for Silent Hill. As the games continue (the terrible sequel grist mill) the music gets progressively worse by becoming more and more listener friendly.

Silent Hill > Its rubbish offspring by a country mile.

You mean putting them in the background of important story scenes, badly mixed and generally cut short? :D

... No.

Anyway, the intro is fucking amazing, yeah. One of the best themes to a game I've ever heard.

I didn't finish SH3 yet, but usually you get different songs for each ending. I agree that Hometown, the song you heard, is not the better of them but I liked it in a way. It thought it was hilarious. :) It's some sort of parody of the original SH's title song.

SH2's title song (Theme of Laura) is everyone's favourite (mine, too), but actually it's pretty a tie for me between that and the studio mix of 'I Want Love' from SH3. I guess it's only available on the soundtrack and the game got the inferior normal version. Can't say for sure, since I didn't get to it yet.

I put "You're Not Here" on mix-cd's that I make for people and they're all like, "ooooh, I like that, who is that!?" and I tell them it's from a video game and they're like, "oh." and really don't mention it again.

Love that song!

I hocked the crappy game within a week of purchase, but kept the bundled OST almost specifically for a few tracks including this song. Very catchy.

God damn heathens.

They actually made "You're Not Here" into a DDR song, complete with small music video - Heather actually SINGS in it. The lip-synching makes her look pretty creepy, though.

I've never been able to figure out how to rip the video without having all the arrows show up, otherwise I'd make myself a copy of it.

Bah they're nothing like FF title tracks. When Yamaoka started doing vocal tracks he wanted to do songs that when you listened to them you wouldn't think "Oh..That's from a videogame" like you do with most game vocal tracks. You really can't tell with the SH game vocal tracks.

If anything, there needs to be more vocal tracks. :P

I didn't really mean that they reminded me of the vocal songs in FF. The similarity that I was talking about is the apparent need to include vocal songs because of tradition or something. I liked that SH2 was all instrumental. It's not that I think the vocal songs themselves are bad or anything either... I just think they were poorly implemented into the games (especially in SH4). :)

Go, Melissa Williamson/Mary McGlynn :D!

I don't really mind how they're put in. I liked the song placement in SH3 for example (specifically the car scene). I wouldn't be against them using instrumentals for main themes again, but I don't want the vocal songs to go away either.

Your opinion is wrong.

Why does Yamaoka have to suck so much in recent IIDX? I love the Silent Hill music and his older IIDX stuff.

I really liked the opening song for Silent Hill 4....actually, it's probably my favorite one out of all the SH games (the opening song I mean, not the game ;)).

the SH2 vocal song (Waiting for You, I think) that never made it into the game but would later show up on the SH4 OST was fucking awesome.

I love Yamaoka's guitar work.
