The Order: 1886 - IGN has me worried.

The Order is a sign of the times. We for the most part thought that the promise of more powerful hardware was for 'Toy Story' graphics. We weren't looking ahead thinking, "Man, games in 2014 are going to play like butter with perfect controls, AI and interesting mechanics".

Now that we're here, it's all about the graphics, and we think of the game itself as a part of the game... the 'gameplay'.

Of course developers are pitching their game like it's a movie.

It's painful for me to hear this, as I have great hopes this game is going to be another Uncharted like franchise for the PS4. IMO they have nailed the art design and concept so well with The Order, I'm going to be crushed if they let the gameplay be it's downfall.

...but... why go to Naughty Dog? Their gameplay is generally pretty bad, with weak AI, a lack of variation in weaponry, often boring fights, frequent removal of player camera control. Bad gameplay is their jam.

They excel at presentation. Bringing ND people onto The Order isn't going to magically make it a good game, any more than any other ND game had actually good gameplay.

Jesus christ, they actually seem proud of it. Man...something needs to change quickly. I really want to love this game, but if stuff like this is real, they are going to make it as hard as possible.

nvm.. that site looks like its trying to be the Onion for videogames.

So what do you think is going to happen to games like Gran Turismo? You'll never be allowed to drive cars again? Or Street Fighter? There wont be any fighting?

All I see is gross sensationalism in this post. You could say since Pong was first invented, games would turn into movies. Yet 42 years later, I can play any game I want that still has the gameplay and better graphics than Pong.

And with that, your credibility regarding what constitutes as good gameplay disappears in to oblivion.

Agree entirely, though this is mostly a console game problem. There will always be your Europa Universalis, Wargame, Starcraft, etc albeit in increasingly small numbers.

Pfft. Acting like that's a problem....

How on Earth can you honestly say these things about IGN? They are basically Microsoft PR? Sony has four of their Game of the Year awards and three of the last five.

IGN Game of the Year
2001 Halo: Combat Evolved
2002 Battlefield 1942
2003 Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic
2004 Half-Life 2
2005 God of War
2006 Ōkami
2007 Super Mario Galaxy
2008 Fallout 3
2009 Uncharted 2: Among Thieves
2010 Mass Effect 2
2011 Portal 2
2012 Journey
2013 The Last of Us

Not to mention Uncharted 3 and MGS4 got perfect 10s from them as well

Oh its not real? Good. But RAD still has to prove that reality is different from parody. That site while being over the top, does bring up the main issue i have with the game. I hope its eventually sorted out

it's a build that is pre-e3 and pre-alpha.

ign has been waving the 'order is not looking good' flag for a year now, all based on a single demo.

Well if you're going to advertise your product you need to show it in its best light. The developers are hurting the potential sales of their own product by showing substandard gameplay.

Yeah sorry, gonna have to call horseshit on you here, fella.

I'd be the first to call out cinematic tripe for what it is and generally consider myself to have a low tolerance for "bad gameplay" in the AAA world, but ND are one of the only developers who make such games that actually manage to make them fun to play imo. First Uncharted was iffy for sure, but I've been through UC2 and 3 multiple times and Last of Us is one of the first games I'm buying with my PS4 when I get one, despite being through it 3 times on PS3 now. To say nothing of the hours I've spent on multiplayer between all three titles.

They're clearly doing something right beyond mere presentation here.

I know. According to Wiki, they have never even given a Microsoft exclusive a perfect 10. But they are Microsoft's mouthpiece... LOL

I think their ridiculously embarassing hyperbole over Titanfall has skewed opinion of them in that direction (On top of whatever this is they're doing with these Order previews) in recent times. It'll no doubt not be long before something happens to swing opinion the other way, as always happens, when in reality no one should be taking a thing these clowns say about anything seriously, "bias" or not.

Simulations and niche genres will always exist, as well as games based on nostalgia. Most single player character action/adventure games will adhere to a paradigm (TPS, FPS, whatever) and use that as a framework for the movie (set pieces, QTE, etc). You won't hear about mechanics, AI, those kinds of things. It will be resolution, framerate, effects, setting, story, style.

A lot of gamers don't even know what a great playing game is like. If it's functional and has at least a little responsiveness, it's good.

Play Zelda II on a CRT and just jump around- that is great control. Now we don't even mind when there's input lag on our TV.

I can understand where you are coming from with UC to a degree (I really enjoy the gunplay and think its quite solid) but TLoU shows they are at the top of the heap. Going through the remaster again has solidified it as one of the best playing games last gen and current.

Consoles don't necessarily have this problem either. Transistor, Splatoon, WiLD, The Tomorrow Children, Tearaway, Contrast and so on. Thing is, innovation doesn't always equal quality.

I was slightly curious about the Order until they started showing gameplay from it. It's got a neat design, but the combat just looks bare-bones. Like a 2009-era Gears clone that has been given the full polish that being a Sony-produced joint allows.

Ugh I read that article and it has me concerned. Normally it wouldnt be a big deal and I would hold off on buying it for reviews and GAF opinions buuuuuuuut I got in on that BestBuy price mistake months ago and got the CE for 59.99 with the statue and all. Not sure if I should cancel it or just keep it as eye candy and hope it is better than most previews seem to indicate.

Is it worth the risk to save 20 bucks?

Agreed I love the actual game play in TLOUr especially the melee.... so satisfying.

Side note:

They need to quit teasing it and just show this area already.

Extended previews are going to reveal if we need to be concerned about the title or not. Thankfully it seems we should get those somewhat soon.

I like what I've played so far. February is a big month but The Order is the game I'm most excited to play in the first half of next year.

Really. Is it going to be the same demo again?

Someone mentioned a preview event earlier in the thread. Those usually allow for a more deliberate analysis of the game via extended play time. I can imagine the journalists present were able to work their way through several levels, if not more.

Also, the event taking place six months before launch should allow RaD to address further criticisms and make a better game. I hope...

To be honest, the gameplay is this game looked questionable from the beginning. It's the sole reason why I am not excited for this game at all. If I were you, I would wait for reviews and impressions from GAF.

Everyone played same single demo from the start, so the section they played may not be interesting for everyone but its stupid to discuss about the demo again and again to make this game bad like it had several diff demos with diff sections to try and see about the game.

God damn you, I'm already hyped enough about Bloodborne and The Witcher 3. There's no need to add a third this far off.

Details, please!

You are joking right?

I remember when most Destiny hands on reported it being boring, videos backed that up, "looks so boring"

Then the Alpha/Beta.

How things change.

Saying it as though it was true doesn't make it any less false.

Edit: Regarding IGN - of course they are not MS PR. But what clickbait is best bait: Yet another article about how bad the XB1 is selling worldwide, or concern over an important game for the winning player in this gen?

Yeah. ND does only shitty games. Right?

It is known.

It will be good, this game is way to hyped on neogaf to become bad. Uncharted 1 also had the same complaints in 2007, then it got released and everyone liked it, it will be the same with this game. You wont see a 68 metacritic average for this game.

Don't forget this is Ready at Dawn's first console AAA game. Everything else they've made has been a port job or a handheld game. Don't expect Naughty Dog quality on the first go around, cut them some slack.

Their talk of making a cinematic shooter has to be taken at absolute full face value for this game. I've shied away from games like Heavy Rain and Beyond, but I'll probably be picking this one up to try out these narrative heavy games. If you're looking for a traditional shooter I'd stay miles away from The Order.

Hmmm... coming from someone who likes Alan Wake that is weird. TLOU has more refined gameplay in winter chapter alone than the entirety of Alan wake.
