The Order 1886: Shooting & melee, graphics, thick atmosphere, explorable alleyways

Mostly trying to understand why this game is considered the next Last Of Us, they have shown absolutely nothing of this game and yet it's hailed as being goty by most of the people in these threads.

I would almost say it's just ps4 fanatics being crazy about everything first party.
Knack's gonna a 9/10 you just wait
lol

This isn't happening.

It's a good dev making a new IP in an awesome setting. That's plenty of reason to anticipate it.

You sound like a bit of a fanboy. Nobody has said anything about it being the next Last of Us or GOTY. And what does Knack have to do with this thread? Grow up

I just cannot tell if this game is going to be utterly amazing, or just another overblown third person shooter with Gears of War aspirations. Need to see some gameplay dammit!!

I'm gonna go with amazing, myself. I really think this has potential; the tech sounds amazing, RAD are historically excellent and I love the setting and premise.

Getting pretty tired of people telling me how great The Order is.

It's time to put your cards on the table.

No-one in this interview is saying how great the game is; they're just talking about the features and its inspirations.

Man this doesn't sound like an ambitious next gen game to me. A true next gen game would be all about open world and useless collectibles.

Because i'm not interested in an interactive movie? Lol get the fuck outta here with that bullshit.

Interactive movie? The only thing we saw was a trailer that suggested the game will be a shooter.

This won't be a Heavy Rain or a Beyond (neither of which I am interested in, btw).

Are you excited for let's say...Quantum Break? If so why?

There are certain games you can tell by just looking at a single screenshot to know there is something special going on. This is one of them, just like TLoU you mentioned, I knew from the very first concept art coming out they were on to something.

I'm assuming if you like gaming you want new IP's right? How can you NOT be excited or something like this?

Because we've seen fuck all, that's the biggest problem here, they can make as many points as to why this game is gonna be fucking awesome but unless we actually see this as a game and not as a fast and loose cinematic trailer we have got nothing to be excited about imo.

And don't even get me started on Quantum Break, more proof that Remedy lost their ways.

I'm not gonna argue (or stink up) this thread further, i hope the game turns out great but people are going crazy over nothing right now and yeah gotta say, it kinda bothers me.

4 of those bullet points are pointless for a game, the other one about the shooting is pure speculation right now since you haven't seen it in action at all yet. I want them to care about their gameplay, not provide another corridor shooter where the gameplay is only there to tell their story that wouldn't even be fit for a direct to DVD movie.

Dude, they are making 3rd person shooter, it is the gameplay you will get.

Its the studio behind GoW:Ghost of Sparta that has me hyped, they know how to make a game with a good story and gameplay.

You don't put in full soft body physics and destruction if you don't care about gameplay. If they were only focusing on graphics those would be pointless because they take a huge amount of processing resources.

They're answering questions given to them by Edge on features, the atmosphere of the game, story, etc. What the fuck do you want them to say?

completely disagree. While visceral, the close quarter or hand to hand combat in the last of us was nowhere near as good as something like the Batman games or even Ryse.

You might've missed the part in my post where I say I'm talking about games where the primary gameplay mechanic is shooting.

Yeah we had a similar situation for Driveclub. They were to show us a full race with multiple cars, that was more than a month ago i think...
I wonder why Sony PR is holding on to these.

This sucks and has been a bad move. There's a lot of people complaining about a lack of demonstrations from Sony first party right now and getting footage of the games out there is the best way to counter act that skepticism.

''Here have these in-game images to show in your magazine''

I'm out.

This game feels special. They haven't even touched on what sort of beasts we'll be fighting yet, and people are writing it off. Craziness I tells ya. So presumptuous.

I would like to see what the enemy models in the game look like. Something tells me the first gameplay footage we see won't showcase them.

In their defense, they did show excerpts from a race with multiple cars.
But yeah, that wasn't handled well.

With respect to promoting their games, the only thing Sony did right was not showing up at VGX.

sounds like exactly the sort of game sony think is going to sell PS4s.

i'm sure it'll make for some great gifs.

I love to explore the environment so long as it gives you something back. Yes, we’re trying to do some of that, but the reality is that it’s a single-player game that takes you on a ride, and we don’t want to compromise that ride.

YOU'RE LEAVING THE COMBAT AREA, GO BACK BEFORE YOUR MOUSTACHE FALLS OFF.

Why does everyone want everything to be open world ? Ugh.

This. I mean open world games are great, but damnit we are being flooded with them.

I also feel "open world" coincides with always online experiences where youre always connected to others. And thats not something I really want.

These types of games are good because they provide a more focused experience. Of course if its on rails to the point of something like COD id have a problem. However, if the combat is dynamic, fun, has some sort of item discovery or exploration and a cohesive story "corridor shooters" are fine by me.

I'm not usually this impatient, but I feel like I've read probably 10 of these kinds of articles that go on and on about various details regarding this game, but don't show any of it.

My only hope that this is actually pushing the gameplay very, very far is that its single player only. Last TPS I played that was single player only was Vanquish, because the new gameplay elements it had would not work in multi-player. If they don't do something radically new with the gameplay in this game, it will be a complete snooze fest with pretty graphics, and could turn into another Killzone.

I have yet to hear about any new gameplay, still. So far this is in Binary Domain territory for me. Pretty, decent story, but very traditional and uninventive gameplay. Coupled with the probably 8 hour length, my hope for this is dropping fast.

What's the gameplay hook? How much content is there? They need to sell me on this thing, and right now they're not.

have they said before that every cutscene is real time in the game? I think some people the in engine E3 trailer is something in the vein of Uncharted and TLoU where they prerendered the cutscene while adding some better lighting and AA etc.

I hope the game have unlockable costumes.it's always nice when your costume etc shows up properly in the real time cutscenes

I wasn't referring to Mario. But in that case, complaining about the attributes of this game is like going into a thread about the next Nintendo platformer and complaining about the reliance on jumping

It was a joke Chuck Norris. You were probably reffering to TLOU, and my reply was a smart ass round about way of saying I disagree, Mario 3D World is arguably the GOTY.

I get your point in any event

So games can only be tight corridors or sprawling open worlds?

Yeah bro there's NEVER been a linear game with exploration built into its level design. Preposterous for you to even think it. You'll get your rectangular rooms after rectangular rooms and you'll love it.

Is the city explorable, then? Can we investigate its murky alleyways at will? “That’s always the struggle,” Weerasuriya says. “I love to explore the environment so long as it gives you something back. Yes, we’re trying to do some of that, but the reality is that it’s a single-player game that takes you on a ride, and we don’t want to compromise that ride.”

next gen is here

I hope you like corridors

Knew someone was going to pick that out and shit on it.

I couldn't care less if it isn't an open world. I'd rather take their ride then make my own path through an empty city that exists just to wander around in.

They've been saying it since E3.

Then you played it wrong. Sneaking and throwing enemies off your trail was the primary gameplay mechanic.

TLOU is much more versatile than folks give it credit for

It's funny how for some people the only options are either completely linear or open world. When people say they're afraid that the game will be a bunch of corridors it's not because they want it to be open world, it's because they want open ended level design within a linear structure.
Again, TLOU does this very well and that's one of the templates developers should be using when building their campaigns.
If you're making the player walk down the road, put explorable buildings on both sites that the player can enter and explore for items or use as vantage points or hideouts (not sure if this game will have stealth) when he/she encounters enemies.
If there's going to be a gunfight, don't give us a corridor with nothing but some boxes to use as cover. Give us a big area that allows for multiple ways to tackle the encounter, a mini sandbox like TLOU's lakeside resort encounter for example.
This type of level design goes a long way in giving a sense of freedom and choice to the player without really forcing developers to move away from their comfort zone, it's still a campaign made out of a string of areas in which you move from point A to point B.

Then you played it wrong. Sneaking and throwing enemies off your trail was the primary gameplay mechanic.

Are ou being daft on purpose?

not everything needs to be an open world game...

What's with many of you guys and extremes? Its either a super linear thrill ride or an open world game like Elder Scrolls. God almighty, there are example of balances between both.

Edit: Dragon1893, great minds think alike.
