The Order 1886: The gameplay and story [video]

Imperfections are even more noticeable in the 322MB HQ video from Gamersyde. All signs point that this was indeed realtime cinematic.
There is also some subtle clipping. Watch his coat in the shot where he strokes the gun in his lap. It clips through his leg twice. I doubt that would be left in if it were prerendered.

New game+ medieval armour set pls

There better be a Lever action rifle in this game, you hear me RAD? Don't disappoint.

If there is it better have an RE4 style reload animation.

Well, back in August, Ru (game's director) said it was a year away, so I'd expect it out around that time. For some reason I'm feeling September 2014.
I think it's probably going to be sometime between June and September. Launching a new IP in the summer can work quite well, like with TLoU and I think they'll want to have it out before the major fall titles get out. I could see it coming a bit sooner if Uncharted is coming next fall. That's a flagship title and they'll want to space out their cinematic TPS games. Don't want to have them cannibalizing each other's sales.

Lever action is quite different than bolt action.

RE has never had a lever action rifle. Those are something you saw in RDR though... or other Western-setting games.

Thanks for the reminder. Had a complete brain fart there for a minute. I'm well aware of the difference between bolt and lever action but it didn't even cross my mind there.

NP, figured. :)

I don't know much about guns anyway, despite army guy avatar.

I think it has to be September at the latest. Sony need a big gun for the holiday, needs to be an established brand.

Do you reckon we'll have a late announcement? Seems out of character for Sony to announce a big gun and have it out in less than 14 months, but I can't recall what the timings have been over the last gen. Maybe a Naughty Dog or SSM announcement in January to keep the PS4 train rolling in the post launch lull, and 10 month turnaround

I doubt Sony will release two similar third person shooters next year in quick succession.

Uncharted 4 must be a 2015 title. Although Sony is a stupid company and they are releasing Driveclub and GT so close together

I'd say this is definitely a 2014 Q2 title. I would draw parallels to Infamous. We got an in engine cutscene in February, then no information, then Gameinformer in May, then e3 blowout with release date.

For this we've got an in engine cutscene at e3, gameinformer now in October and probably an info blowout following a VGA trailer with a release date or at least release period being Summer 2014.

It depends on the release, but seven to nine months is plenty to market a major release. I do think it'll be UC4, but whatever it is, I think VGAs is the obvious place to show a teaser.

Drake sleeps on a boat, rocking back and forth, floating in an ocean, camera pulls below the waves revealing Atlantis or whatever. They don't need to show anything really if it's a big franchise, just the confirmation and a teaser, then they can open with it at E3. It's plenty of time.

But yeah, I want to know why shinobi said Fall, if he's got a source for that, because it seems like a strange decision for Sony. It should be a summer release.

Have no idea what the game looks like however... the setting has me very lukewarm... need to know how this plays before I can even remotely be interested in it.

Well, I guess August is technically summer. There was an interview about 2 months ago with the game's director about when to expect it and he said it's a year away. I'm on my phone at the moment so can't really search properly but I'm sure you can find it.

I hope they wouldn't show Atlantis in the actual trailer :D

Well, the teasers so far have specifically targeted the locations that have warranted new technology, so for UC2, the teaser was the snow storm while he's in the train, for UC3 it's the desert, if they did water this time, (which seems like a possibility given the GPGPU could allow for water simulation in a way that would make UC4 look clearly beyond the XBO's capabilities), they'd feature it heavily in the trailer.

Atlantis was just the first wet place I could think of.

Don't get me wrong, Atlantis would be great. I'd just like it to be a proper reveal when you get there, ala Shangri La in UC2

I agree with this, Uncharted 4 & The Order in one year and so close may not be the best decision.

It can also create conflict within the studios. The RAD guys might say, ND is getting all the attention/marketing dollars. That might jeprodize the relationship with Sony

If RAD get the game moving along promisingly, I think they'll promote it suitably. They could do a little more to make it clear that RAD are the devs though in their next promo material.

They did after all get a prominent amount of time in the PS4 reveal event

I wonder how RAD would react to that. On the one hand, it'd push sales of their game. On the other, they would perhaps see it as a lack of faith in letting the game stand on its own merits

It's more about competition on the Xbox side next fall rather than Uncharted 4 few months later. Really few months is a long ass time in videogame sales.

Sony will push early gen exclusives however they can.

RAD are smart fellows, they'll understand.

Based on the GI article, I'd say they're looking to get into the first party fold. It makes sense to seed the franchise early, then give them two and a half years, so they're off the Uncharted cycle after this one.

I wonder if this game will look better than Uncharted 4? RAD's engine has been in development for 5 years, while Naughty Dog is using the Uncharted engine again (of course with a new renderer)

I think you guys are overcomplicating it. The Order in August/September, release Uncharted 4 in November. That's a few months in between for each to grab it's own sales. There's really not too much of an overlap.

Who knows though, we might see Sony Santa Monica's new IP instead. One thing's for sure, I don't believe The Order is going to be the only first party IP from Sony next holiday.

Sony also has to keep an eye on halo. Releasing a game alongside Halo would hurt sales

Nah, maybe the two years after, but in November '14, you either only have one system, and you're buying the big exclusive, or you're a core gamer with a high disposable income rate, and you're buying anything you want anyway. More or less.

I'd guess the engine is more for the dynamic destruction ect. So if I was a betting man I would say UC4>Order when it comes to graphics but Order>UC4 when it comes to physics ect.

Somehow I feel there is a love relation between Sony's 1st party studios, hence why I think this may not really happen.

Good marketing for The Order, packin early access for Uncharted 4 demo.

Done.
hmmm, well that could help for sure, but personally I'd like The Order to achieve success on its own rather than due to UC4 demo.

From what I am reading and seeing, RAD are making an awesome new IP for PS4.

well you need to remember that October and November are crowded months, people tend to save up to get other games while waiting for sales, and especially next year with so many big releases every couple of months, people will really need alot of money to keep up.

Huh? Sony doesn't shy away from releasing big games because of competition...
I think they released all three resistance games alongside halo or gears and it did them no favours....and now rssistance is a dead ip

Halo is a huge ip and the hype starts gaining momentum in fall, so its a good idea to give it some breathing room
