The Original Shoot-Em-Up Omega Five Official Thread

Yeah...there's an approximately 459% chance that the free game definitely is not Omega Five.
I think it'll be that new Rare game. We wouldn't have to wait a few more weeks if they wanted to give us a game that's already available.

When people say that the game is only four stages, how long is a stage? I'm on the brink of purchase but I want a decent sized game (even though I'll probably suck so much I'll never see the end).

Four stages is decent size for a shmup.

I likes it. Made it to stage 2 before dying, which resulted in a #69 ranking on the leaderboards lol. I suck at these games so I fully expect this is the last time I'll be in the top 100. The game is cool, though. I hope we get more shmups on XBLA, I will buy them all.

Eh, took the plunge. I quite like it. The boss on the second stage handed me a new one. See how I go tomorrow.

Don;t forget that when you beat the game to try out the "++" mode to see if you can do the one hit kill thing.

The free game will be something like Jetpac or Uno.

Personally I think using a free game to justify things is stupid, especially as there's a chance we may have already bought the game (or all the games in a potential selection). So that way you get screwed for your loyalty.

They should just extend everyone's Live Gold subscription by a month or two instead.

If you're having trouble, guys, don't forget to bomb. Not like all the time, but at certain key moments where the screen just fills with stuff you can safely bomb. It's very easy to get a new one (just collect the pink chips, of which there are a lot).

Also, beginners should not be going for Tempest right away. Play Ruby, beat the game with Ruby and unlock R.A.D. and then beat it with her and then get on Tempest and Sensei.

Just bought this... totally didn't think about the possibility it could be the
free game. =/
There is no possibility of this being the free game. It's just not happening. MS would have to pay Hudson for every copy they give away (and that would be millions), so it will be something MS published. Second, this game is way too hardcore for a casual freebie. Looking at the history of freebie games (Uno with the camera, Texas Hold 'Em, Carcassonne), there's a clear pattern there.

Tried the demo and thought the game was pretty cool. I'm very tempted to pick it up.

And what is the bomb? From what I understand, the right trigger is a spammable secondary attack and the right bumper is temporary invincibility at the cost of some life.

Also, why does the old man seem a lot harder to use than the chick?

Carcassonne is hardcore to me :(

I am really loving this game, so so so good, might have to end my next game after 1 cred to lay down a nice little leaderboard score.

So much better than what I was expecting in every aspect.

i've just watched a video... WOW. The graphics are insane!

I'm a total n00b though (even if i loved both Sin & Punishment and the shooting sections of AstroBoy for GBA...), would you still recommend me Omega Five GAF?

try the demo if you like it go for it.

got my weapon upgradinmg sorted, collecting the powerups for whichever weapon I have then going for the Type B my fave, also the little grabbing hook secondary fire with ths chick is brutal.

Love Tempests weapon style but its go so much harder to play as that guy.

All the talk of easy 1ccs is disappointing. Yeah, that's what the scoring is there for and all, but I was hoping to have to struggle for a clear.

The demo was cool (and stupid gorgeous), though, so I bought the game.

I'm looking forward to this game. I'm prepared to purchase this game if I like the demo enough. Not that the other two characters are too much better, but it's lame characters like this that really turn me off to it.

In this cool looking futuristic technilogical environment with robots, lasers, missiles, and two futuristic characters with jet packs and big guns, we have a flip flop wearing, leg showing, samurai guy, in a kimono, on a hoverboard, with his dog?

I'm enjoying this game, but I still suck at it. I will be really bummed if I never get to unlock the other two characters...

the people who have already 1 credited the game must completly know their shit, the end of stage 3 boss is raping me, so much going on.

Definitely. Omega Five may just be the best beginner shmup ever. It's challenging for a beginner, but still easy enough to be highly doable. Should be a fantastic warm-up for Ikaruga and Triggerheart Exelica for people who aren't used to the genre.

Sadly, this means that the game is way too easy for an experienced player. I've cleared the game without dying three times in one afternoon! :(

THIS GUY.

How do I unlock him?
Here's the list of unlockables I know of so far.

60 minutes = 5 credits
90 minutes = 7 credits
(I believe this is effective playtime as I've left my machine on while I go do other stuff all day. Also, I assume 120 minutes is 9 credits and whatever beyond that is freeplay.)

Beating the game with dying = Challenge mode.

Beating the game without dying as...*
Ruby = R.A.D. (second female character), Arcade++ and Challenge++ mode.
R.A.D. = Female announcer (yes, she is as funny as the male)
Tempest = Sensei (I'm talking to you, Birdie!)
Sensei = "Retro mode" (I don't know what this is yet. My friend told me about it.)

* It's possible that it's not for specific characters, but just 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th times regardless of character. The order I listed them in is the order I beat the game without continuing.

So does that mean I have to play for 60 minutes to unlock 5 credits etc?

Dominoes is hardcore for you??? (that is basically what Carcassonne is)

My bet is that the free game will be JetPac. MS publishered and just 400 pts away.

cant get past stage 3, just went from 5 creds to 8 creds available 180mins :lol

Woo!!! here we go then,

As for completly without dying, damn you aku, I have the first stage down, but by then end of stage two I always loose a life then one on the the way to the third boss and then the rest on him.

looks like I'll never get those extras :(

This time I should be cool tho 3 more creds :D :D :D

I hope the free game isnt something that is already out, be nice if it was a new game to the XBLA library. Ive pretty much bought all Ive wanted off XBLA with the exception of maybe one or two.

Tried the demo of this. Would be a decent game if you didn't have to be a big floating dude. But as it is, not interested.

so thats why the leaderboards are locked till you;ve done the level, ahhh.... :D

Watching number one rack up the points right now

WTF this game rocks! What's up with having so much cool shit to download these days, both on XBLA and PSN. Instant gratification has never been this good!

The music for the first stage reminds me a lot of PSO... ah good times... just got up to stage 3. This game really takes me back to the Dreamcast days, but in hi-res!
GFX is a bit rough around the edges, but there are some nice beastly encounters, and the game is not too hard so far. Solid play mechanics, having a lot of fun with the grapple R-Type pod thingy.

Hahah, retro mode is awesome. It turns the music all chiptuney and the graphics are covered in a filter that makes it look like a MegaCD FMV clip. :lol

Revised addition to the unlockables list:

Play for 60 minutes = 6 credits.
Play for 180 minutes = 8 credits.
Play for 300 minutes = Freeplay.

So did anybody figure out how to record a replay? I didn't get one when I did a mediocre challenge run, so I figured maybe only the top players get their replays on display but #3, #4 and several others in the top 15 didn't have replay symbols either.

Damn the soundtrack itself is making me want to go ahead and get points to purchase the game. Seriously, to me it feels like a Lords of Thunder style game (well it is by Hudson) except instead of crazy shoot em up rock music, they use crazy old school techno shoot em up music. Kinda reminds me of the Blazing Star soundtrack.

Also im a sucker for any shoot em up with fun gameplay and a catchy soundtrack.

wooo wooo wooo wooo!!!!

in all it took 7 creds, some silly mistakes on the last stage but finally completed ths game with Ruby :D :D :D

Now to get good :lol

just tryed ++ mode, one hit one kill :lol yeah its gona be a struggle to get these characters & retro mode unlocked too
