The PlayStation Vita In 2011-2012

Tales of Innocence R's special Vita app:

R1H02.jpg

You might have not noticed it, but that giant Tales of Innocence R media blast from earlier in the day included pics of the game's bonus item.

As previously detailed, Innocence R comes bundled with a download code for a Tales themed PlayStation Vita app. The self contained app includes a clock app and a drama skit featuring characters from other Tales games saying that they too want to appear in Vita.

You select between the clock and the skit from the app's title screen:

Theres also a "config" on the menu.

Namco Bandai hasn't shared pics of the clock app, but here are some pics of the skit component.

Depending on your selections, you'll get a different ending. The dialog is, of course, fully voiced.

I'm more interested in the fact that Sony will allow developers to release small (and non-gaming related) on the apps.

I hope there is a media streaming app released near launch.

Man, today I remembered the Panasonic Jungle. It's crazy how within a couple of months nearly ever trace of that thing being linked to Panasonic is gone. The official website, the unofficial ones, the social media spaces, etc. all vanished.

I imagine Sony's services, like Video and Music Unlimited will be supported. Japan's also getting Nico Nico Douga (basically their Youtube) at launch, so hopefully Sony works it out with Google. I full expect Netflix support at some point too.

there probably won't be a lot of apps at launch , we'll see how they'll manage it and what the future of Vita apps in the first 8 months or so.

I really hate the blue vita cases. I wish they would stick with the clear plastic of PSP and PS3. The launch lineup is undeniably strong, but honestly the only thing that really interests me personally is LBP vita. If it turns out near as good as LBP2, it will justify the purchase for me alone, but I wish there was one other game coming out in the launch window that I was really interested in. I love wipeout, but 2048 just doesn't look like it will offer me anything more really over the PS3 version.

I find the Japanese launch line up somewhat disappointing. Have no interest in Uncharted, all those jRPGs look like PSP throwaways and the rest are just meh. Too bad that Rayman Origins and Gravity Daze won't make it. Guess I'll be playing Type-0/MH3rd until Ragnarok/something interesting hits.

Persona 4 looks pretty good though that probably only applies for people who haven't played the PS2 version like me.

It looks good, as do Ragnarok and Gravity Daze, but none of this games will be available at Japanese launch. According to the release date list in the latest Famitsu, Persona 4 Vita is "Planned for 2012 release".

Gravity Daze will be quite early though. Most likely it'll see release before Persona, and Ragnarok.

Well, GD is planned to be released in February, while all the other 3 games I wrote about don't even have set dates, so yeah, probably.

That was predictable. A always though there would be a though time for Vita in Japan cause the psp's strength is the type you get after some years. Psp is a cheap console with looots of awesome rpg at budget prices. Vita won't have this kind of appeal before many years probably.

that is true, sorry, I think i misread your post thinking there won't be much JRPGs that would not be throwaways during launch window.

To be honest, the PSP isn't really that cheap here, which surprised me (but really shouldn't if you think about the console's popularity) - you can get a new one for 15,000 yen, which is as much as a new 3DS costs. The cheapest used one I found was 12,000, I think.

I read earlier today that Lord of Apocalypse won't support cross play between the PSP and Vita. What an incredible missed opportunity. I mean the PSP game running on Vita will be cross compatible with the PSP, but unless there's some inherent technical limitation preventing a Vita software from being cross compatible with the PSP iteration, I'll chalk it up to SE being lazy and disinterested.

The game looks and plays almost exactly the same! I'd love to see a comparison between the PSP game running on Vita vs. the Vita version.

The native Vita game likely will have some AA compared to the jaggy mess on PSP.

I was poking around the PS Store today and I noticed that one of the current top sellers for the PSP was Star Wars Battlefront II (#3 behind FFT and The Force Unleashed).

This is overstating things (quite) a bit, but the closest thing that the PSP had to Monster Hunter in terms of unexpected popularity in the West was that game.

Sony really should have tried getting it aboard for the Vita. And for that matter, I wonder how much money LA has passed up not bringing a new one to current consoles?

I'd assumed that the Vita would not support the same ad-hoc connectivity? But we'll have to see. I wonder if people playing PSP games on Vita will be able to ad-hoc with people on actual PSPs. If so, it's just laziness on SE's part.

Haha, I think Sony's aggressive bundling of Renegade Squadron helped. I wonder how Elite Squadron sold ...

I don't understand Japanese, but I was under the impression this image confirms cross platform multiplayer between PSP and Vita:

It's from here.

Well that's that then.
Sorry, I'd not looked at the official site at all!

Edit: Hmm, it does say it will not work for some titles.

I loved Battlefront II. I remember borrowing PSPs from friends in high school and playing it constantly. Really wish they'd come out with a Battlefront for the Vita and for this generation of consoles.

Sounds good, game still looks like shit though.
If it looks at least as good as the PS2 game on that screen then that's fine. Early launch game and all, I still would buy it.

The reason for that, though, is that those Star Wars games recently had a sale where they were both $2.50.

I was talking about Tales Of Innocence when I said that, not Persona 4

Well, the Star Wars games were obviously quite popular on PSP, or Lucas Arts wouldn't make as many as they did. Including an exclusive Battlefront, and one shared with the DS.

Inside PSVita I did a search and did not see this posted. It looks like we will be getting info on the system and games through these episodes.

I'm hoping future videos aren't so content recycled...

The same as PC.

Edit: At the one minute mark, the guys at the back have PSPs. lol

There are unique keyboards, and unique typefacing for standard keyboards, but you can also use a regular qwerty keyboard to type and form the language phonetically.

Nope. Why would they do that when they can have people double dip two years from now?

The motherfuckers...

Srsly, that's a major downer for me. Can you imagine this thing's Augmented Reality stuffs + the HMZ T1?
