The PS4 Youtube App is a Train Wreck.

From being completely unable to handle rest mode or suspend correctly, to signing me out constantly, to now being unable to sign me in at all, I've had it up to here. I'll just watch vids on my tablet now.

I have a 360 I could hook up, am I better off on there? Does anyone else have these problems?

I've used it for years just fine. It just broke today.

App has been awesome for me, but there's definitely something up today. It signed me out mid-podcast around 4:30PM EST and wouldn't let me back int.

I think the title of this topic should be changed to reflect that there's something going on right now as opposed to what the title suggests, which is that the app is shit in general.

Yeah, op has been edited to reflect this. I still maintain I've had a ton of hassle with it.

It's annoying that the console app youtube is such a gimped version of the real thing, but other than that I have no problems with it, on PS4 or any other console.

Is this just an issue happening in the last day or so? I use YouTube app all the time on PS4 and have never had any of these issues crop up.

Sometimes mine has problems with suspend/resume. If I shut off the PS4 with a video still playing (or even paused), when I turn it back on it'll stick on the splash screen until I push circle to exit the video.

To be fair, it is kinda crap in general, it's just this particular example is not reflective of the actual problems it generally has.

I had a bit of a issue mostly at launch, I think it was that whole Google and PSN profile fuckery and after some fuckery here and there it's been working just fine

Huh, was worried earlier that it was just me. Got randomly logged out mid video and have not been able to log back in since. Been really irritating to say the least.

The only issue I have with it is when it's paired with my iPad. For some reason I have to close the app on both the ps4 and the iPad for it to connect to each other again after each session. If I start playing a game or go to standby and then open the YouTube app afterwards it simply won't have the connect to ps4 icon on the YouTube for iPad. This has been a issue for months.

I use it all the time with no problems, but as already noted in the thread it's been fucked up today with logging in. Was actually watching something on it about 4-5 hours ago when it logged me out, and I can't get logged back in.

So basically

- something is wrong with it right now
- but the OPs title is so bad, ppl were just relating their overall experiences with the app

I got the same problem. Everything was working flawless until few hours ago. I am unable to sign in/link my accounts. Every time I put in password it sends me back to sign in screen.

I hate that you can't choose which quality you want to watch the video in...

This is my biggest problem with it.

My internet connection is crap, but I can get 720p constantly from Netflix, and even 1080p sometimes, yet Youtube doesn't seem to ever go past 360p, which looks like absolute shit on my TV.

I just don't use console apps. Doesn't matter whether wii u or ps4. They're all pretty bad in terms of features (or lack of).

Most youtube apps are fairly shite. The Wii U browser continues to be a better youtube player than the app to this day.

Never had any issues with it, apart from this sign in server issue in the past few hours. Otherwise the app is great.

I was just thinking to myself how great it has become in recent times. Of course choosing stuff to play on a phone or tablet is a much better way to use it all round, but even just the streaming quality has improved immeasurably in recent times. I was watching videos earlier on and noticed it was full crisp HD from the second a video started rather than dialling it in Netflix style like in the past. Also 60fps videos work really well in it now, in the past it just didn't seem to play them back at all well, if at all.

So yeah picture quality has improved drastically form a few months back it feels like, and if using a tablet to pick and queue up videos it works fantastically. This seems like a weird glitch or whatever for you that can be fixed. The app is sound.

It's been ok for me. It's the twitch app that sucks. Fullscreen mode zooms in and doesn't match my T.V.'s resolution. Weird since I have a standard widescreen T.V.

I couldn't find another thread so I'm posting here;

Youtube seems to stay on now even when the PS4 is off or playing games. is this a glitch or have they updated the PS4 Youtube app?

I like it because now it's more like the youtube on my TV I don't have to start Youtube on my PS4 to add videos to it from my laptop, tablet or phone. the only difference is with the PS4 you still have to start the Youtube app on your own while the TV will just start.

Edit: I figured it out it's because the PS4 went into rest mode on it's own. Guess I'll start leaving the Youtube app running in the background instead of shutting it off.

Sorry for bringing this thread up again but is anyone else really annoyed at the new subscription interface? It used to list them on the main bar and made it easy to browse. Now you have to go through 1 or 2 screens and scroll through the hideous giant buttons of subscriptions. They took something so simple and made it ridiculously obtuse. Why?!

Its just like the browser version of YouTube then. They're always changing the interface at random points for no reason, more often than not, making things worse in terms of interface. I would honestly just think that YouTube should step back and build some tools to allow users to customize their interface to their liking.

I just use the app on Android TV, and also get the bonus of 4K content. When I need to do a lot of searching and playing, I cast from the phone like a remote to the TV.

Necro bump:

I sat down tonight and suddenly the YouTube app is giving me nothing but trouble. I deleted the app and my local save data, reinstalled it, and still- it freezes the moment the core YouTube interface hits.

Is this happening to anyone else after the latest update for the YouTube app?

Yeah the app has always been fantastic for me, until the latest update a few days ago. Now on a 110 Mbps connection I'm getting a tonne of buffering (no other device in my house is affected).

Update:

So if I disconnect my PS4's link to my Google account and load the app up? It works fine.

If I then sign into Google from my PS4? It shits the bed again.

I continue to use YT through PS4's web browser as I hate YT app's UI.

I don't think YouTube.com/TV is accessible. I get a page suggesting I download the app or the ability to click through to the desktop version on my TV.

What's worse? I pay for YouTube red so I can avoid ads when watching YouTube.

This is... ridiculous. I feel like I could go through countless permutations of deleting the app, signing out of Google on every device I have, deleting the YouTube app's save data, unlinking my Google account from my PS4, and trying in various orders. Only to have no guarantee that any of that would work.

The YouTube app has always worked flawlessly connected to my Google acct. I don't have Red, though. Sounds like it could be a bug on Google's end.
