The *REAL* Official Phantasy Star Portable thread without bullshit

I haven't played any PSU games, but I THINK that what it means is that this game takes place after the original PSU and before the Ambition game. This is an entirely new storyline, just takes place in between those two games. So you have references to both games in this one.... I think.

Damn. I was hoping it contained the original PSU games since I haven't played those yet :(

is anyone trying this on Ad Hoc Party? im up to the part where I choose a World (in AdHoc Party) and dont think im gonna be able to do much if nobody is hosting.

Yeah, would enough like to post a PSU story summary for those of us with taste enough to avoid that shit-storm? The manual was absolutely no help, as I've already read through it and got almost nothing out of it, story-wise. ;p

The story in PS:P is absolute throw-away. The cutscenes are all VA'ed but man they are really bad and soooo cheesy.

Don't play PS:P for the story, simple. I mean it's there, but now I'm just mashing X through the unskippable dialog boxes, only briefly scan reading every other box.

I've been playing the Demo online via Adhoc party. Add me to your PSN list "Harperbros" then we can meet up on Adhoc Party. All the English speaking players meet in "World J"
:D

If someone owns the full game can a guy with the demo play with him?

I wouldn't think so. The Game-IDs would be different and they probably wouldn't recognize each other.

It's made VERY clear in the demo AND the demo's save file that your character transfers over.

phantasy star portable is out, and i can't find a SINGLE thread on the first two pages discussing it. this is an utter disgrace, especially when i see a 10 dickrillion page thread on killzone-fucking-2, quite possibly the most uninspired piece of drek since the LAST overhyped quasi-military first-person masturba-thon.

i KNOW some of you stankrags like pso, and most of you --wisely -- hated psu, but you should still be interested in psp on psp. why? because it is far more pso than psu, even if it uses many psu assets and locales.

here's why, plebes:

NO CRAFTING. OH GOD YES PULL DOWN MY CHINOS AND MAKE FOR THE GLORY THERE IS NO CRAFTING. everything comes in the form of drops. LOOT, REAL GOD-LOVIN' LOOT, not a bunch of crap materials and endless inventory sorting.

the graphics are slick, load times are fast, the controls have been overhauled, the story mode is nice and fast-paced, the stupid gargantuan lobbies have been replaced by convenient menus, the ad hoc network play is flawless. it's basically all the good bits of pso -- the quick dungeon entry and great boss fights and random loot loot LOOT -- mixed with the good of psu -- the greater weapon variety, the weapon specials, and the improved character customization. illuminus' silly redundant classes have been knocked down to eight total, and the story mode is brisk (albeit inane and forgettable in the fashion of all of the recent phantasy star games).

also, i think alfa systems has beefed up or at least improved the combat effects. the plasma whips look awesome instead of retarded, now. i'm actually impressed at how this isn't a port of an awful game (universe og) or a middling one (illuminus), but rather a complete revamp that feels far more pso than psu -- especially in terms of loot and combat rhythm. i can see why this sold an order of magnitude better than the prequels even WITH its appeal to the monster hunter psp crowd. in fact, it's good sega outsourced it, because i am sure sonic team -- who hasn't made a good game since the original pso, and hadn't made one previous to it either -- would have just dumped a low asset version of psu on the psp and colored it up with some retarded naka-ism, like making it a card game or putting the movement entirely on the l/r buttons.

buy this. you will adore it. play it with your friends. white man chased me and my diaper penguin around the starting dungeon wielding a whip and clad only in a tight green man-bikini, and i think i liked it. :(

DISCUSS.

edit: this post originally existed per se in its own fine thread, but some butthurt sony fanmod dumped it in this dull-ass purgatory. killzone 2 still sucks!

See, THIS is the first time I've heard this from anyone, and I'm now I'm fucking interested. Does this have online play, or only local? I still don't know a single person locally who owns a PSP but me.

local only, although NIPPON gets a tunneling program for the ps3 that allows online play. hopefully they'll bring it over so we can have some 2001-era NOSTALGIA

Local play only is kinda lame, but loot is almost a good replacement for online play :lol

Not really.

I went for the "say he's banned to trigger the guy who will tell you he's not really banned, but then tell him you were in on it all along" angle, just to change things up a bit.

Hmm, I might give it a rental at least then (I'd written it off after hearing it was basically a PSU port, which is what it looked like). Not having online play built in is sort of crap though. I actually know PSO fans who are planning on buying a DS for PS0, and they probably would have done that same here for PSP if this had been online.

You can download it and still use it. It's pretty easy to use even without Japanese language understanding. I used it with Dissidia. Worked great.

I want to believe you Drinky.

But I was burned on PSU.

Oh I'd love a PSO like game for 360 with no fucking hunters license fees.

Can I try out the "you're full of bantha poodoo" angle?

I need to get a PSP soon. I LOVED PSO but HATED PSU.

well the fees are to be expected, but I'd pay them for PSOBB on XBLA. 600-800 points a month seems fine.

i stopped playign PSO/U when it came out for the dreamcast and i took my VMU down to FLorida with me to play my friends DC that i was staying with

I've played the US demo. This is like Phantasy Star Online but without talking to anyone except shitty NPCs. There's no real town/lobby either. It's strictly dungeon for the most part. This is not the PSO you're looking for.

the lobby was an OBSTACLE, even in pso. it was perfunctory and useless. better to have menus than endure a bunch of ambling between stores and idiots dancing.

I bought R-Type Command thanks to your thread, I hope PSP is a little better than R-TC.

wasn't your fault, I love R-Type too :(

what was wrong with r-type command, other than the ear-flaying five second "soundtrack" loop? admittedly, it DID help to rip it to a memory stick.
