The REAL Wii VC sales thread

I dunno. I mean I SUPPOSE I could count Euro and JP titles... to me it just messes with the integrity of the chart a little bit, because we have far more US participants. It makes those JP/Euro titles look more unpopular than they really are.

Updated.

This thread has now been featured on Game|Life, *******, and Digg, as well.

Can someone tell me:

Do I need a classic controller to play the VC titles?

Or can I use a Wiimote?
No you don't need a classic controller to play VC titles.

Depends on the game. Most of the games so far can be played on the Wiimote. You can always use a Gamecube controller.

Sweeeeet - expect me to add some titles here soon :D

Look at GCN controller mapping for DKC and tell me they are not trying to force the classic controller on you...

God I love the HUD and layout for buying stuff.

Nintendo went the extra mile there and it was OH SO sweet to download my first VC games....I smell an addiction.

BTW:

Solomon's Key
Bonk's Adventure

Also, I've given this a lot of thought, and decided not to track Japanese and Euro VC games. It just leads to too much confusion. It makes the results seem inaccurate - like why a popular game like Gunstar Heroes has only sold one copy (it's only out in Japan)

I asked this and haven't been around the thread since. It may already be answered, but what about games we get (Europe), which are already on the list (i.e. available in America) - will you track those from me, among others? :)

I can't speak for Justin, but I imagine the answer would be the same. Just as having a Europe-only game would make it look small, America+Europe+Japan games would seem very large compared to an America-only game.

Hmm, maybe I could be convinced to take one for the team and start a VC sales thread for other regions even though I'm in the US. I'm not sure how significant it'd be, though, with limited participation.

I dunno. We're primarily a US community, so in my opinion it makes sense for us to track US sales. Let a UK site track Euro sales, if you ask me.

Edit: So far I've been counting sales of Euro and JP VC games that are also available in the US, though. Just not counting those that aren't available here.

edit2: The thought process is that this is supposed to be a window into (or at least a guage of) the relative popularity of VC games. So when we start including games that are available only in Europe or Japan, then the list loses its purpose. Since those games would only have a small amount of sales on this chart, it would make them look less popular than, say, Sim City, when that actually isn't the case.

Ruh-roh. You've already added confusion. Can you excise those? They don't accurately reflect the proportions of purchases given the different selections available, plus the price of Wii Points varies by currency, price, and exchange rate.

I'll be starting that thread now...

I can't excise them, no. Because I don't always know what region someone is posting from, you know? I know someone is european if they buy Zelda and Donkey Kong Country, or Japanese if they buy Link to the Past...

But what if there's a poster that *lives* in japan, but the only VC game they've bought is like... Donkey Kong? There's no way for me to have known.

I personally think tracking other regions doesn't make a ton of sense. Yeah there are gaffers all over, but we're a US-based place.

+1 Ristar

I think Nintendo has done a great job with VC, aesthetically, I love the startup music and the downloading screen especially. I am hooked.

That music is so catchy, it haunts me in my dreams....

Updated. Only real bits of interest are SM64 surpassing 100, and Soccer once again being alone at the bottom.

Bloody hell. It seems pretty clear that there's no keeping the people in the EU/AU/JP regions out of this thread, so it'd probably best to require people to state their region with their titles. I don't mind tallying the other regions.

bought sonic and bonk today. will get sim city once i get a vc controller.

hopefully mischief makers gets put on there.

the games cost way too much though... should half the price they are.

What does it matter? Just ignore titles that aren't available in the US if you must.

That's how I've been doing it. Counting sales from JP and EU gaffers, but only sales of games available in the US.

It's a pretty flawless "compromise," besides the fact that when the current JP & EU-only titles hit the US, they'll be underreported, unless I comb through this entire thread. Like, right now if someone reports a sale for Donkey Kong Country and F-Zero, I'm only counting F-Zero. When DKC *is* released in the US this spring (or whenever) that EU sale from this fall won't be counted.

I guess I could go through this thread now and tally up those sales before this topic has too many replies. Then have them handy, but not report them in the thread. Then when DKC was released in the US it'd be starting at 5 or 8 or however many on this chart instead of 0.

I think I will do that, in fact.
