The REAL Wii VC sales thread

Inspired by a post further upthread & having a bit of spare time, I've partially rejigged the chart to output weekly & total lifetime sales charts, together with a little bit of extra info. What does everyone think? (and, yeah, I ****ed up the Top 20 ;-) )

+1 Mario 64
+1 Super Contra
+1 Gunstar Heroes

Gunstar Heroes is a piece of crap. Everyone was splooging over this game, and I'm not surprised that most of the praises came from Sega zealots. I purchased it tonight and the game is just a mess. My brother and I couldn't get shit done because we kept flinging each other off the map or into the waiting arms of lethal enemies. Also, there were fixed areas where we kept getting bombarded with enemies and we didn't know if we were accomplishing anything because nothing would happen and we couldn't advance, enemies just kept pouring into the screen for minutes under the same animation. Many times I couldn't tell which player was who because the only way the game distinguishes between the two characters is through a very faint difference in the color of a small piece of their clothing.

I was half-tempted to call Nintendo and tell them that my credit card was stolen before the purchase of this game, and I would have deleted it from my Wii.

We went back to playing Super Contra, a competent game without the inflated rating or praise from Sega fans.

So Gunstar Heroes, a universally praised game, is a piece of crap because you suck at it. Good to know.
So when someone blasts a game you like, you make ad hominem attacks on his ability to play the game rather than address his criticism. Good to know.

I did address his criticism. And frankly, I'm not some uber-huge Gunstar Heroes fan either.

BUMP!

Anyone grabbing any of the three new NES games uploaded to the US VC catalogue - Kirby, Kid Icarus and Ice Climber - remember to add them here too!

I've never had a Sega system, so I hardly fail for the Sega zealot category.

If you're geting bombarded by enemies is simply because you're not advancing. Enemies are unlimited, so as long as you stay at the same point, enemies will appear. So you have to run for your life while shooting enemies down. The color difference is enough to know, although I concede you will grab your partner more often than not, although I find it something fun more than annoying.

And the praising of the game is justified because it's one of the best sidescrolling action games to grace a console. Its gameplay is the most open you'll find in a game like this, being able to adapt to your liking with both the mode of shoot you select and the weapon you choose to use. You can play in very different fashions (even like in a brawler), and the game and pace changes totally from using a weapon, or a certain combination of them. That's a huge bump for replay value. Then the stage design is very varied. Not that the stages themselves are any special, but gameplay changes considerably from one to another.

So, yeah, the praising is totally justified due to the sheer amount of gameplay variations on the same game and in a genre not very used to variety.

Hell just battling agains Seven Force justifies the praising!

My VC purchases, respectively:

Ristar
The Legend of Zelda NES
Gunstar Heroes
Toe Jam & Earl
Super Mario World
Super Mario 64
Super Mario Bros.
