I thought it was phenomenal and I really don't think any actor could do this. :P

Everytime he was on screen I was completely "in" the movie. His perfomance is outstanding (imo) but...well....his performance always is outstanding. He is one of the greatest actors of our time ( and I watched Titanic in the cinema, I'll never forget all the teens crying lol).

Nah, dude nah. I'm not hating on Leo and it's not like I don't think he shouldn't have gotten an Oscar for some performances mainly "Catch Me If You Can," but most of the other movies he's in he's either not that great or easily outshined. He just tends to yell a lot in his movies and is nowhere in the same leagues as say a Fassbender, Daniel-Day Lewis, Tom Hanks, Christian Bale, etc.

If you gave his role in this movie to DDL then we would have gotten something truly remarkable, it would still probably me a mediocre movie due to the lack of story or rather weak revenge angle and the needless flashback scenes, but it would most definitely be on the same par if not likely better than DiCaprio.

Imo DiCaprio is a way better actor than Fassbender (good but overhyped), Hanks (okay, this is close) and Bale (he is way better in "small" films than in blockbusters). DDL...I don't know. Great actor, I agree...but I don't think he has the emotional impact that DiCaprio has (if that makes any sense) . But I also haven't watched many movies with DDL so don't take it too seriously ;)

Who are the big competitors for the best actor Oscar this year? Leo, Fassbender, maybe Cranston? Redmayne? Haven't seen the Danish Girl.
 
This film was really good but I can't help but feel a great sadness after watching it. That's not a negative comment by any means.
 
My first viewing wasn't the best (frickin' theater had my Thursday 7pm show on the small screen) but I want to see it again. It definitely deserves to be seen on the biggest screen possible.

I really hope this wins some sound awards. I'm a sucker for nature sounds and this was one of the most amazing things I've heard in a long time.

i also felt like leo crawled throughout the whole flick
 
Would love to see Hardy get a nom for best supporting actor in this. That monologue about the squirrel and the tree, good god. That and Isaac for Ex Machina.

Wasn't sad at the conclusion so much as I felt a sense of palpable release.

After the movie I felt like I was crawling throughout the last 152 minutes...and this is a compliment. It's one of the rare movies you have to watch on the big screen.

I saw the film today and I don't know what movie you guys saw but I thought this was a 7/10 at best. Leo deserves the Oscar, he was great but I'm rooting for him to get it more for the fact that he's been snubbed too many times.

The search for 2016's Mad Max: Fury Road continues.

That monologue was the shit. He's a phenomenal actor.
 
Haven't seen it yet but I'm getting the feeling that after Gravity with a Car (Mad Max), this will be Gravity with a Horse.
 
This movie was pure savage intensity. Leo was brilliant, Hardy was quite good also and the ending sequence was sublime. Visually the movie was beautiful, shot after shot of environmental beauty everywhere.

Just watched it. Great movie overall. Hardy and Leo had an excellent dynamic on screen, Leo was awesome as usual. Cinematography is going to go down as one of the best ever filmed in history of cinema. Rarely do you get to see visceral survival movies come out from Hollywood with A-list actors, so this is special. I won't call it the best in its genre, and I felt some scenes were silly though.

A horse would never fall off the cliff like that, it would just stop.
Why didn't Leo's hands move when Hardy was suffocating him? Leo had just stabbed the shit out of the bear with his right so presumably it was working.

Overall a must watch.

Del Toro maybe.. but not Fassbender or Phoenix. And Christian Bale would play the role better than all of them.

Yep. The theater laughing made me chuckle too. Though the entire scene was intense and the crowd was completely silent while it was all happening. The scene is really incredible

This is a "make good" Oscar for all of Leo's previous snubs. Don't let that breathing, crawling and grunting turn you off the idea of what is, essentially, a lifetime achievement Oscar that's long overdue.

The real star of this film is Lubezki. Dude is in a class of his own when it comes to cinematography. Shame I wasn't thrilled about much else The Revenant offered beyond that... but that's not Emmanuel's fault. He did his job and then some. Inarritu needed to cut out some of the fictionalized shit that never happened and stick to the plausible elements of Glass' back story.

are we supposed to believe that leo has some kind of change of heart at the end of the movie? when he's like "revenge is in god's hands" ? that part seemed kinda weird to me .. like "i don't need to kill this guy, instead i'll float him ten yards down the stream where the indians will" isn't much of a revelatory change .. he's killing the dude either way
 
Saw it the other day with my wife. We both fucking loved it (aside from the less than stellar audience we viewed it with).

I'm pretty sure it's a masterpiece.

Maybe he thought the Indians wouldn't kill him? I felt that scene was kind of silly too - why would the Indian's kill Fitzgerald and spare Leo (given the rescued girl did not recognize Leo until they locked eyes)?
 
I haven't felt cold and wet since playing Tomb Raider 2013. This movie has amazing atmosphere. Even more funny when I walked out the theater it was snowing.

Kinda how I felt. Like waking up to a depressed reality. I guess it fits with the theme of revenge.

I must be one of the few people who isn't really a fan of del Toro.

I'll take Leo over him any day of the week. del Toro is just bland and weird and can't seem to do much with his voice, which only ever has one note to it.
 
I think Fassbender would have brought the film down, honestly. He's a fantastic actor, but I can't see him doing the role any justice. I have yet to see Macbeth because I have no god damn idea how to even see it.
 
I was lost in this movie, completely entranced. I loved it all especially Leo and his ability to portray meaning without words. Hardy was awesome too but he needs lines to show out, Leo doesn't.

Anyways great movie! Never dragged. Brutal as all hell and I fucking loved how he just
stared right into the camera at the end
. It felt so uncomfortable seeing an actor do that

It was a good movie. I didn't think it was spectacular or anything but it was pretty and well done.

lol, Leo in this movie is on a completely different level from Catch Me If You Can.

I think people who are reducing Leo's performance here to "big deal, he was in a harsh environment, anyone can look that pained in that situation" are doing a huge disservice to the work done here. Anyone can put themselves into a shitty, painful situation; that doesn't automatically make the performance good or noteworthy. That Leo puts himself in this scenario, uses it to inform the performance, and then executes the performance as well and as believable as it is is what makes it strong acting.
