The Ridiculousness that is PS360 Gaming this Xmas/Fall

there are about 14 games that i want that are coming out this fall. i have to divide these into a now and later groups but that's pretty hard too

I will not buy a single game for the rest of the year, looovveee my Gamefly subscription. Buying 99% of the games is money in toilet.

Last game I bought was Mario Kart and before that COD 4. Rented many....not one I felt was worth buying. Can't believe people bought DMC4, what a pos ... glad no one bought Okami. Bet most of you have a massive backlog right now and two of you might finish a game this fall, you'd rather spend time on gaf instead.

I'm literally going to be spending over $1000 on videogames this Fall. Here's my list from September to December:

Xbox 360 (I buy all multi-platform games on 360 since they perform better on it 99% of the time, as well as friend invites and Xbox Live):
LEGO Batman - September 1
Infinite Undiscovery - September 1
Viva Pinata: Trouble in Paradise - September 5
NBA Live '09 - September 23
Fable 2 - October
Fallout 3 - October
Far Cry 2 - October
FIFA '09 - October
Midnight Club LA - October
Project Origin - October
Saint's Row 2 - October
Banjo Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts - November
Call of Duty: World at War - November
Left 4 Dead - November
Mirror's Edge - November
Gears of War 2 - November
Tomb Raider Underworld - November

PS3
Resistance 2 - November
LittleBigPlanet - October

XBLA / PSN:

Castle Crashers
Braid
Fat Princess
Lode Runner
R.B.I. Baseball (!!!!!!!!!)
SF2 HD
Uno Rush
Age of Booty

Maybes:
Tiberium - September 2 (looks and sounds good with the squad elements, but need reviews)
NHL '09 - September 9 (don't really follow hockey but what I played of '08 was the best hockey game ever)
Just Cause 2 - September 23
Dead Space (gonna be awesome but is a ~10-12 hour single-player game worth the $60 when there's so many other games to buy?)
Prince of Persia (see above)

I know people like to call Holiday '07 the best ever but, imo, '08 kills it. Yes there was Halo 3, Mass Effect and Mario Galaxy last year but looking at it as a whole, '08 blows '07 away. The sheer number of great games is insane.

Yeah, the problem for me this fall isn't necessarily money, but time. So many anticipated titles coming out; one of those rare cases where PS360 is a bad thing :lol

Why are you buying them all this fall? You'll never be able to play them all. might as well wait and buy some of them at a discount later on.
Yeah, you're right. I like to buy games that have a good multi-player (shooters) when they come out because it's fun to play MP when everyone is a noob instead of being lttp. Delaying some of those single-player only purchases till next year is probably a good idea but it's gonna be hard to cut out the fat. Twenty games is ridiculous... why do the publishers do this? Many great games are gonna totally bomb in sales because of how packed the holiday is.

Kane and Lynch says hi.

I think that game managed to break a million despite the drama and the negative press surrounding it.

I worked out my rest of year calendar last week... it's looking painful:

July: Gears of War
August: Ninja Gaiden 2, Soulcalibur IV, GeoWars 2
September: Viva Piñata 2, Infinite Undiscovery
October: Little Big Planet, Fable 2, Metal Gear Solid 4
November: Banjo Kazooie N&B, Gears of War 2, The Last Remnant
December: ???

Month ???: Braid, Banjo Kazooie XBLA, Castle Crashers, Fat Princess, Fallout 3, Mirror's Edge, Motorstorm 2, Puzzle Quest: Galactrix

Maybe: Dead Space... and probably a ton of PSN / XBLA games I've forgotten about.

Estimated cost: ~£515 / ~$1000

There is a lot coming out. My must haves this year include:

Disgaea 3
Valkyria Chronicles
LittleBigPlanet
Resistance 2
Star Wars The Force Unleashed
Persona 4

I didn't get banned for doing that, but I got a warning. Beware!

The drama might have even helped Kane & Lynch. I'm curious about how Too Human will sell... it has similar negative drama. Wonder if it will be a case of any publicity is good publicity or if it will just straight up bomb.

Here's my list:

Buy:
Spore
Crysis: Warhead
Resistance 2
Motorstorm 2 (need a good racing game for my PS3 with splitscreen, still haven't bought any disc-based racing games because of that lack)
Rock Band 2
Little Big Planet
Brothers in Arms

Rent:
Mirror's Edge
Dead Space

PSN:
A lot, I don't even want to think about this. If a PSN game is decent I will probably buy it.

As a 360/PS3 owner I refuse to make a list cos it'll scare the shit outta me. Having said that, I know I'll end up picking up everything that interests me and it can join the big pile of unplayed games.

Glancing at my PS3 collection (my 360's upstairs), this list includes: HSG, MGS4, UT3, BO, MLB The Show, GT5: P, R6V and a whole load of PSN games.

Damn you Warhawk.

I can only play 1 game at a time and I haven't even finished the stuff from last year yet :(

Currently playing: Bioshock
Finishing next: Super Mario Galaxy
Up next: Assassin's Creed

Sometimes the amount of new worthwhile content coming out becomes overwhelming and you almost feel like you're in "catch up" mode the whole time, which takes some of the fun out of it.

It's either ridiculously good or ridiculously silly that we continue to get twice as many games worth buying in the space of two months than we do the rest of the year.

With Smash, GTAIV, and MGS4, we have no cause to complain about frontloading at the holidays this year.

Mine isn't as huge as some of you guys.

From now all the way to December 31st (aka this year), it's about 10 or 12 that I'm sure are "day ones".

The rest I'll pick up when I have nothing better to do, or they're 2009 releases (Star Ocean 4, Resident Evil 5, etc.)

Indeed. Gamefly probably saves me 500 dollars a year on games, though I do fewel a little guilty that I'm not supporting developers as I should.

mr_bishiuk said:
look at it as a benefit, buy half of them before the holiday and then get the other half during the next dry spell when the games will eb a lot cheaper!

I'm playing Mass effect and its fuck awesome only £9.99 in Argos!

I just realized Assassin's Creed is $24 off Amazonk.

WAITING FTW.

So probably this year will be the stable of Holiday Must Haves. The Gears. The Rock Band. The Left 4 Dead. The Banjo. The Viva. The Fable. The Fallout.

Oh, fuck. This isn't going to work isn't it.

Simpsons Game NEXT year.

:(

Also god damn it Street Fighter 4 looks amazing and will be the ultimate family game to play this year. (Also, probably, Lips, especially if I can pull Aesop Rock lines off of it.)

I work for Microsoft so it's nice for me that about 50% of the games I'm considering will be available for cheap at the company store (we publish Gears 2, Banjo and Viva Pinata so those are probable buys). With that in mind I think it won't be too killer for me as I always strictly limit the amount of cash that I spend on games. My other buys will probably just be Little Big Planet and some XBLA games. I'd agree that this is a pretty tough season for choices though, very much worse then last year (in terms of there being more games that I want to buy) for me.

edit: Forgot Fable 2, luckily that's another company store purchase.

Try being a PS360PCDSP owner.

My purchases and their systems for the rest of the year:

Soul Calibur 3 (PS3 and 360)
Too Human (360)
Tales of Vesperia (360)
Infinite Undiscovery (360)
Dead Space (PC)
Fable 2 (360)
Gears of War 2 (360)
Left 4 Dead (PC)
Mirror's Edge (PC)
Last Remnant (360)
Disgaea 3 (PS3)
SOCOM: Confrontation (PS3)
Naruto Ultimate Storm (PS3)
Resistance 2 (PS3)
Little Big Planet (PS3)
Valkyria Chronicles (PS3)
Spore (PC)
Warhammer Online (PC)
WoW: Wrath of the Lich King (PC)
Fallout 3 (PC)
Final Fantasy 4 (DS)
Bangai O Spirits (DS)
Dragon Quest 4 (DS)
Bleach: Dark Souls (DS)
Metal Slug 7 (DS)
Chrono Trigger (DS)
Valhalla Knights 2 (PSP)
Star Ocean: First Departure (PSP)

This isn't even considering PSN/XBLA stuff either. Nor some stuff I'm iffy on but will definitely play. :D Goddamn that's a lot of games.

We can when a month like November has a list that looks like this

Mirror's Edge
Tomb Raider: Underworld
Valkyria Chronicles
Gears of War 2
Resistance 2
Prince of Persia
Last Remnant
Left 4 Dead
CoD: World at War
LoTR: Conquest

That's not including the potential downloadable titles and some of the smaller releases scheduled to release that month that some might be interested in.

My list as a PS3/PC owner:

¤ Ferrari Challenge: Trofeo Pirelli
¤ LittleBigPlanet
¤ Flower
¤ Spore
¤ Resistance 2
¤ WipEout HD (hopefully :( )
¤ Valkyria Chronicles
¤ Left 4 Dead
¤ Fallout 3 (PC version)
¤ NWN2: Storm of Zehir
¤ Bionic Commando: Rearmed
¤ Motorstorm 2
¤ Crysis: Warhead
¤ PixelJunk Eden
¤ Project Origin (if it turns out to be great)

I'm fucked.

Kintaro: what about Banjo, Project Origin, Tomb Raider Underworld, Far Cry 2?

I was never a Banjo fan, but I'll try the game out. Project Origin I'll need to see more of but if I get it, it would be PC. Same with the other two. Need to see more. There's also Crysis Warhead, The Force Unleashed, NBA 2k9, Saints Row 2, Motorstorm 2 and a bunch of others I need to see more of before I decide. :D

PSN/XBLA list includes Castle Crashers, Flower, Ratchet: Quest for Booty, Street Fighter 2: HD Remix (for both) Bionic Commando: ReArmed, PixelJunk Eden and more. Throw in the cost for a high quality 360 Arcade stick too.

However, my wallet will convince me to show patience for a lot of games on my list and wait on them though. That list is my geekery in me making emotional, awesome decisions. :D

There's about €2000 in here I guess ($3166 lulz). It's extremely doubtful I'll be able to buy them all. Time to start pruning!!! (It's not like I have to buy them all at the same time. But it's stronger than me, I have to buy as many as I can at the same time lol)

What's the average price of a new game in Europe? We have similar length lists (~20 games) and my total is about $1200. You guys are getting totally robbed over there

Having too many games you want to buy is fine. You can save some of them for later and get them at a lower pice. Getting them all at once even though you won't be playing them all at once is pretty dumb.

WHAT!?! Support the industry man. I'm always "Day.1" for the type of games I like to play, even though I may not have time to play them. If you want them to keep making the type of games you like to play (OMGBBQRPGS) then let them know with your wallet.

I only buy used when its an extremely good deal on something I dont really care about... ie (Stranglehold $8.99 & Tomb Raider $8.99... plus B1G1 free ? ... sure why not) :lol

My 99% confirmed buy lists:

Xbox 360:
Mercenaries 2: World in Flames
Star Wars: The Force Unleashed
Rock Band 2
Fable 2
Fallout 3
Far Cry 2
Dead Space
Left 4 Dead
Mirror's Edge
Gears of War 2

Wii:
Madworld

I'd love to get a PS3, but I just don't think I have time for it.

I want to get excited, but I know deep down inside at least half of those games are going to be delayed.

Sometimes, I fucking hate this industry.

That's insane...

Honestly, you're better off just importing games from the U.S. Even with the shipping costs, it's still probably only like $75 shipped. If I lived in Europe or Australia, I would buy an NTSC Falcon 360 and import all games. For PS3, I think they're region-free anyway. Look into this for next-gen, X720/PS4.

kbear said:

£44-49.99 ($90-100) is the RRP of most PS3/360 games over here in the UK though internet discounting is much more aggressive. I almost always use £5 off vouchers and cashback referrals too, so end up paying about £32-33 per game. Buying your games in high street stores is quite literally daylight robbery however. Believe Europe fairs even worse too, and Australia/NZ even worse than that...

gofreak said:

Yep, didn't really check dates on the PSN titles.

But make no mistake, I much prefer this abundance. We are living in awesome times for a gamer my friends.

I typed up this huge, gargantuan $500 list last fall and I only purchased like a quarter of what was on it. But I'll just post up my huge list here like everything else.

Wii
Animal Crossing

360
Mercenaries 2
Brothers in Arms
Rock Band 2
Viva Pinata 2
Guitar Hero WT
Fable 2
Midnight Club LA
Banjo Kazooie K&B
Gears 2
Star Wars Force Unleashed

Of course, I'll likely end up ignoring BiA because I'm sick of WWII FPSs, and Mercs 2 because it's starting to look really boring and I'd rather play VP2 and RB2. GHWT I might rent depending on the tracklist, Force Unleashed I'll rent because it looks like a 10 hour single player game I wouldn't want to play again, and we'll see if Midnight Club gets delayed seeing how we haven't seen or heard anything about it in forever.

And I forgot about Animal Crossing. If Nintendo doesn't unveil any new major features, and the price for a Wii on eBay circa holiday period is higher than my want for the game, I'll sell my Wii and obviously not buy AC.

My preorder list:

360:

Left 4 Dead
Gears of War 2
Fable 2
Banjo & Kazooie
Viva Pinata 2
Fallout 3
Too Human
Tales of Vesperia
Infinite Undiscovery
The Last Remnant
Brothers in Arms
Mercenaries 2
Rock Band 2
Star Wars Force Unleashed
Silent Hill Homecoming
Project Origin
Saint's Row 2
End War
Dead Space
Ghostbusters
Mirror's Edge
Prince of Persia
Tomb Raider Underworld

PS3:

Little Big Planet

Wii:

Don't own.

I need about 2 months off from work and a raise. :lol

360:

Gears of War 2
Rockband 2
Lips
Too Human ?
Fable 2?
Left 4 Dead?

XBLA
Castle Crashers

PS3
Resistance 1+2

PC
Red Alert 3
Crysis
Crysis Warhead
Left 4 Dead?

I've got $15000+ to spend from my internship pay this summer, so I am not really worried about my wallet.

Day 1:

Tales of Vesperia
Fallout 3
Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts
de Blob
Wario Land: Shake It!
Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World

Wait For Price Drop:

Final Fantasy IV
Star Ocean: First Departure
Kirby Super Star Ultra
Away: Shuffle Dungeon
Pokemon Ranger: Shadows of Almia
Viva Piñata: Trouble in Paradise
Mirror's Edge
Persona 4
Samba de Amigo
Deadly Creatures

On the Fence:

Viva Piñata: Pocket Paradise
Dragon Quest IV: Chapters of the Chosen
Time Hollow
Infinite Undiscovery
Fable II
Sonic Unleashed
The Last Remnant
Gears of War 2
Yakuza 2
SimCity Creator

I still have to finish my backlog, which includes Monster Hunter Freedom 2, Final Fantasy I & II, Final Fantasy III, The World Ends With You, Breath of Fire: Dragon Quarter, Tales of the Abyss, Panzer Dragoon Orta, Fable, Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne, Persona 3 FES (The Answer, which I probably will never finish), Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn, Super Paper Mario, and a few more....

:(

I actually might make a rule not to buy any long games before I beat the ones I have.

I'm just pray to God that TRU does a b1G1 free sale in about October (and it needs to work on preorders too, just like last year) :lol
