The Scribblenauts Official Thread of imagination revelations

Picked this up at Best Buy after work today. So far I haven't had any control issues, but I've only done the first world so far. Personally I'd say it's worth it for the sandbox title screen alone.

Thanks, I'm about to test out the object template. I'll make a post on the main talk page about it when it is good to go.

Shame about the dueling scribblewikis. I posted on their wiki with an invite to come join us, we'll see how that goes :lol
They seem to be building a compendium of items. Meanwhile, we're setting up a level-by-level structure. A merger is still a good idea, however.

More importantly who wins dinosaurs vs. grizzly bears vs. great white sharks?

Is anyone having problems with the game freezing up on their DSi? It's randomly crashed on me now twice within the span of an hour. Once when I picked up the starite at the end of a level and another time just randomly in the level.

Someone on gamefaqs found a repeatable crash that can be accomplished by doing the following:

Summon a cemetery
Interact with the cemetery to create a corpse
Summon an electric chair
Drop the corpse on the electric chair

This crashes the game EVERY time on my DSi, but not on my old DS Lite.

Jackson?
Anyone?
WTF?

Anyone want to explain why its possible to kill a imam, baby, or rabbi, but not a priest/reverend? They're invincible. I have a feeling that it was done on purpose, which is kind of messed up when you consider that holy men from other religions aren't immune.

The only crashes I've seen described are creating a big object when you're near your object summon limit, and the level editor reset someone mentioned earlier. It wouldn't surprise me if there were some sort of crashes from running over memory limits (they mentioned one about rabbits they discovered during testing), but I hope I don't see them much...FF3 was the last DS game that would freeze on me sometimes, which SUCKED since that game didn't let you save very often.

It's weird the DSi would freeze since it has more memory though. At least I have both now, though I'd rather play on the DSi. :)

Weird. I haven't tried it on my DSi yet, but on my DS Lite.. I had one crash. I wasn't doing anything too fancy, I didn't even have many objects on the screen.

At least crashes don't seem as common as control issues, and people are still having fun.

...plus I'm going to use this as an argument for why there should be a PC version eventually.
please don't ban me, it's not illegal to say that, right? :P

I had not experiance a crash yet on my side, and if the DS matters, I've just have my original DS.

So what's your favorite title screen level? I think mine might be the top middle one for it's deep digging zone and platforms. And there is those elemental levels like the water and in the dark. That's how learned about the strobe lights, but too bad for no light sticks...could have had a rave.:lol

No crashes on my end, though I do get the occasional slowdown, usually when working with a lot of chains/ropes (like, 3-4, which is A LOT of links) or when there's a lot of battles going on. Nothing major.

The game CONTINUES to fucking amaze me, even one 1-1p.
I tried "Heart", and yeah, that's something the doctor would hold. DEAR GOD

There absolutely should be a PC version someday, it really lends itself to it, reminding me a lot of Gmod.

I'm having about as much fun editing and tending to the wiki as I am playing the game, just because it makes me think of new things to try when I get back to it :D

And I still don't have all the title screen levels unlocked! Must play more!

Edit: Holy crap, Penguin. Amazing. I added that to our Puzzle 1-1 page... I am ravenously curious as to what that page will look like when we've added every possible solution. :lol :lol :lol

Blizzard, and anyone else with a DSi, would you guys give the cemetery/corpse/electric chair thing a try and report back? Also, anyone else playing on a DSi, PLEASE let me know if you're getting random crashes... I'd hate to have to go back to my Lite to play this some more...

I'm sure there are others like it, but if you summon
office
, you can obtain multiple items in one try. Nice if you have a bunch of switches you need to press.

Loving this game so far.

Curious as to how other people solved 1-5 Action though. What I did was
summon the villain and give him a shrink ray then once he shrank me ran to the starite.

Actually, you can skip the cemetery bit. Just doing corpse on an electric chair is enough to freeze it. Curiously, it does NOT freeze on an emulator

Suite
works too.

Okay, any advice on
Puzzle 3-6. It's driving me nuts. Do I make a fire for the guy, do I give him a match? And how do I get the egg to make an omelet? I roped the egg to my hot air balloon and got it onto a hot stove, but that just made it hatch. What am I supposed ot achieve here?

I was quite amused that
money and golf club
also worked for the doctor. :lol

lol wat, anyone posted this yet?

IGN AU of Scribblenauts.... couple of comments...

Graphics
Not a great deal of personality, but with this many objects that’s understandable.

and

While there are certainly limitations and frustrations, this is freedom in puzzle solving like we’ve never seen before. While we wouldn’t necessarily say the game is fun, it’s certainly engrossing, certainly important and certainly worth playing.

Isn't any fun? :lol

Oh, shit. On my DS Lite I tried the corpse/electric chair thing. Corpse object disappears...and the game freezes.

Damn!

Interesting SirPenguin... I can't get it to happen on my DS Lite at all... it happens every time on my DSi though...

Shooting a corpse with a stun gun also freezes the game... goddammit...

He actually wants the egg on top of the cave. The camera lies to you for some reason. You can bypass that if you want by summoning a dino egg or an omelette. You're on the right track with the fire.

I am so curious to see how this new 3rd party DS franchise will do on NPD.

It's a rare scene as it is:
3rd party game (especially on a Nintendo system)
On a handheld system
Brand New IP

Ugh, I can confirm corpse + stun gun also freezes. Corpse + lightning did NOT freeze, thankfully.

Game freezes with the corpse/electric chair thing on my phat. If that's one of the few glitches though then I'm sure it won't be a problem, can't imagine dropping too many corpses on electric chairs anyway. :lol

I think I glitched this part....I used a
tornado to blow the steel box out of the way, then hoped on a flying carpet and it let me go through the wall a bit so I was able to jump off and get the starite lol

This is one of those games that it's super facinating if you love all the possibilities. Or, super frustrating/overwhelming if you want typical console gaming with hand holding. Yes, I've played this game today.

there's a different egg above you that will turn into an omelet when it breaks. feed that to the caveman, and then give him fire/flame whatever

Well, when a corpse hits electricity it turns into a zombie, so it's definitely a pretty big bummer given how cool that is :(

Also decided to try it out in an actual level instead of just on the sandbox, and yeah, still freezes.

That sucks. A lot.

And yeah, I'm on a DS Lite. Cobalt, about 6 months old.

This game should kick-ass at retailers, provided that WB markets it right, which they seem on the right track to do. But the concept will sell a lot of parents, you watch.

this game is great, but count me in with the control haters. there have been too many times where I spawn an item and try to click on it to give it to Maxwell, but instead he walks towards the item as if I missed it and he walks off a cliff into a pool of sharks or something.

It added frustration which is really heartbreaking

I just got corpse+stun gun to freeze on my DS Lite. I'm not as frustrated with the object combination freezes as I am with the random freezes I've been experiencing. The REALLY frustrating thing is that the freezes only happen on the retail cart and not in an emulator nor on a flash cart.

So has anyone legally extracted the ROM from the cart they purchased today? And can they verify (if that's okay with the mods) that it plays on an emulator or R4 without the electricity thing freezing?

I thought there was a specific example from E3 or somewhere else, maybe even a video, where they used electricity to animate a corpse. Is there any other way to do it that might not freeze? :(
