The Scribblenauts Official Thread of imagination revelations

Alright, time for a terrible question that I'm sure you'll all groan over.
I've found that I go back into levels and re-do them with new solutions. That's great, but I can't seem to do what their intention is. Those red stars they have in the top right corner of these re-attempts, how do you increase their number? I've re-tried one stage, and even though I've got the kitten down from the roof through a variety of different ways, I've only managed one additional red star. How do I earn more? (I guess I'm looking for an explanation into how this mode works, as I can't find a mention of it at all in the manual)

found another meme in 4-6 action, although you might already know about it.
giant enemy crab

Turns out black holes do massive damage just as well as hitting its weak spot

Also, the best method for flying or getting to high places is definately the
pterodactyl.
Its got infinite flight unlike the
wings or jetpack
, but is small enough to fit in most areas unlike the
helicopter

Edit: Does anyone know how to do what i think is the 3-1 puzzle level
where you have to feed the penguin the three smallest fish
. I've tried summoning three copies and giving them to it, as well as going aand grabbing them from the level but it doesn't seem to work

I don't...think...I can actually leave the title screen. I am stuck here, summoning everything. I was disappointed I couldn't summon different color paints to paint my monkey army with. Every paint just made my monkeys purple.

Also there was a word I typed that should have definitely been in the game that wasn't, but I forgot what it was now because after that I opened an intergalactic wormhole and a demon alien came out. Then I had to make my monkey army fight it, but they failed.

I will never forget their bravery in that great battle, their blood staining the Scribblenauts battlefield. :(

The bear could not stop it either!

Also was pleasantly surprised I could summon Saturn, Jupiter, Neptune, Pluto, Venus, Mar, Earth and Mercury.

weirded out that Mercury and Mars looked the same, as did Neptune and Uranus.

Yeah... I just did that too, not sure why they couldn't have made a slight color screen difference. Plus Uranus's best known feature is its verticle-ish rings, but what makes up for all that is the fact that chimps and gorillas can both ride and be ridden... Sooo I made the chimp ride the gorilla, then another chimp on that chimp, then hopped on the third's back. That's as big as the chain could get. Orangutan was too small to be ridden( also couldn't ride anything), so I couldn't make a complete great ape chain.

@schlew
I'm pretty sure thats the difficulty. Not sure though.

How did anyone finish 2-2 action? I havent been able to complete it so I did all the puzzle levels first :lol

Err, don't the red stars indicate the difficulty of the level?

So I got the game yesterday, played though all of puzzle/action level 1 and all of puzzle level 2. I love the game but I've found myself getting bored with the puzzle levels as a lot of them only seem to have one general solution.

like the "contain drink/fruit/vegetable and pay" level, there's not much you can do with that aside from making different containers

Also I've discovered that my imagination sucks ass :lol

Some stories though

On the "heist" level, I summoned a clone in hopes of distracting the guard, unfortunately my evil clone decided instead to steal the guards gun, chase him down, and shoot him in cold blood

On the "score" level, after a vain attempt to instead try and get the ref and the goalie to make love (summoned a bed, cupid, and love potion to no avail) I instead summoned a bully, who proceeded to pummel the goalie into the goal, and since he was still holding the soccerball, I cleared the level

which one is 2-2 action? if it's the one I'm thinking

"it's as simple as it looks?" or whatever. I summoned a table and balanced it on the spike enough that it tilted, summoned a pontoon in the water, and then fliped the switch. the starite landed on the table and bounced onto the pontoon

I just did this one 3 times. There's plenty of ways to do it.
Drop something on one of the mines, Remove a steel box with an explosion or magnet or something, dig down if the explosion didn't clear the way, fly/float/jump down to the starite.

Sorry if this has been discussed already, I haven't read the whole topic. Has anyone else found that if you try to ride a T-Rex through a time machine or teleporter, the game fades to black and then freezes every time?

Really loving the game, but some of the *get x without harming y* puzzles can be frustrating ;)

:lol difficulty level.

Fun game so far - some things I'm finding frustrating. Like why oil, pollution and soap doesn't kill fish. I guess you just have to learn the limitations.

Having a blast with this game so far. A fun diversion to try on the title-screen is using objects and trying to re-create scenes from your favorite movies.

So I have this bullshit earth science test on Thursday over 35 different rocks and minerals. So far every single one I've tried is in Scribblenauts :lol

Quick question: Is it possible to bolt things into ground or walls? For example, I just want to put this winch on the ground so that it won't move if I try to put rope on it or something else.

Really having fun. I didn't even start playing the action levels until I bought the third stage. However, I am getting intermittent freezes. Anyone else having this problem. I played for about 2 hours last night and it froze 3 times. Just curious because I've never had my DS freeze.

This game made me turn on the DS again. It's just a whole lot of fun.

On the goalie level I actually bribed the ref. Shot the goalie. Summoned a basketball and then made the point.:lol

Can someone validate the riding T-Rex through a time machine freeze?

This would make me frown a big panda frown.

If it's true, Penguin, please add it to the Glitches page...

Okay, this game owns so hard.

Summoned a Time Machine and it transported me to a screen filled with dinosaurs.

Summoned a shark, then a laser. Figure out what I did with the laser? That's right. friggin' sharks with friggin' lasers on their heads! :lol

Of course, some people will always want to know boundaries: over the weekend someone posted a list of what was supposedly the 22,802 objects in the game. "That was leaked by a hacker who does not know anything. It's more than that," Slaczka said. There is something wonderful about discovering what obscurities can be found in the title. Slaczka said the last item he squeezed in was Low Rider

Confirm...ugh. That's definitely the most confusing one I've seen so far. You'd think they would want to make sure the "stylized" version of Post 217 was possible...

Are other people trying to reproduce these? Because I'm deathly curious as to who this is affecting and why, and whether or not returning my copy would be a good idea. I wouldn't even know how to do that through Amazon, though.

I just did it myself.

Black Screen of doom and gloom

I think the moment I was completely sold on this game was when I summoned a pyromaniac and he ran around lighting anything flammable

After reading parts of this thread, the game seems glitchy and hard to control. Should I buy this game at all? I was fairly excited for it, but now I'm wondering if its worth the money.

The glitches and controls and minor gripes in an otherwise fantastic game.

You go buy now.

The glitches are bad, no doubt, and freezing glitches are the worst. Last night I was fearful of every starite I picked up, lest it freeze.

But it seems the bugs are at least contained to a few items or interactions.

The controls WILL make you lose at least one level, if not scores of them. And yeah, that sucks. But you get used to them quickly and, once mastered, your chance of failing with them seem a lot slimmer. It's not so much a "learning curve" as it is, "Alright, how does it fuck up and what steps can I do to avoid letting it?"

Despite those flaws it's an incredible game, as I'm still playing it constantly and laughing crazily to myself probably once every 5 minutes. The fact I can stomach the flaws shows that this game is truly a gem.

I havent been reading for a few hours, SirPenguin are you the only one getting the glitches or is it a common thing?

It's amazing the fulfillment you get from this game out of simply doing something like summoning a lasso and using it to rope and pull an important object to yourself.

I probably use the lasso too much. :lol I try not to really reuse items (even when I can) since it's more fun to figure out other solutions, and crazier ones, but damn the lasso is useful. Wings as well.

I've also been very pleasantly surprised at what actual items are in the game. While some words do repeat and give you the same thing (mage, wizard and sorcerer seem identical), the variety is huge and some of the words are fairly obscure as well. Very few words I've tried haven't worked, and worked as you'd expect, no less. It's incredibly impressive that they managed to do this while also having many objects interact with each other.

Pretty common. Not many people seem to be trying to reproduce them (can't blame them), but for the most part the people who do are getting the same glitches

Here's my solution to the tornado level, which is similar in idea to rocksolidaudio's solution:
Tie one end of a rope to the Starite, other end to a rat. Place a piece of cheese near the tornado to lure the rat over. The rat will get caught up in the tornado and blow over to your side, bringing the Starite with him

Some interesting things I learned from the Heist level:
- You can freely replace an enemy's (or any NPC?) weapon with a less-lethal object. They will still kill you, but it will take longer.
- Male cops chase after donuts but female cops do not (gotta watch their weight!)
- I drove a hovercraft into a cop who bounced up to a higher platform. Didn't help me, but you can do it
- Wearing a police officer's hat doesn't fool anybody :(

Curious as to how other people solved 1-5 Action though. What I did was
summon the villain and give him a shrink ray then once he shrank me ran to the starite.

For that, I summoned
rocket boots (which make you jump about 3x as high), but I failed to jump completely over the tornado and instead landed on top of it, and it carried me to the starite.
:lol

i
created a pit which allowed me to get beneath the tornado. after it passed over me, i climbed a ladder out and got the starite.

good times

Yep. I can confirm this one as well.

Every time I play this game, I feel the need to post on GAF how fucking awesome it is. Seriously, how can this game live up to all the hype? It's insane. This is the most fun I've had in a game since, like, Mario 64.

My inner child is happier than I've ever actually been in my life. This game is magical.

Seconded, including and especially the Mario 64 reference. Barely into world two (clearing both puzzle and action in each world before moving on) but it remains my GOTY contender.

Latest story of awesome:
Baseballs and bullets from regular guns bounce harmlessly off of turtle shells.

EDIT: To flesh out that bit about Mario 64, when I first got that game I remember just running the fuck around the castle with a smile on my face for hours, barely making "progress" in the game but just being amazed at how much fun I could have even so. "Just fucking around" was something that, up to that point, was pretty hard to make feel fun in a game.

Scribblenauts is like that feeling + amphetamines.

I'll go against the grain and say I wish I would have passed on it. I think it was a tremendous idea and they definitely get a huge amount of props for the originality. I just can't enjoy the game with the awkward physics, frequent freezes, auto centering camera and of course the touch screen controls.

They had to go all or nothing on the amount of objects you can use. I just can't accept the fact that a rope attached to the bumper of a car will pull the car off the edge of a cliff. I know they can only fit so much onto a DS cart but a bungie cord shouldn't weigh as much as a tank.

If I summon a crane (vehicle), does anybody know how it's possible to lift the crane end? I'm trying to master the level in the first world with the
starite hanging from a rope over barracuda invested waters. The first time I did it I just dropped a toaster in the water to kill the fish; this time I wanted to try pulling the starite up to me, and I can attach the crane's chain to the plank, but I can't find a way to draw it up.

i can totally see how some people would be upset at paying full price for it. it's not a "game-game" for everyone, imo, and seems to fall somewhere between a game and a "neat novelty software" category in which you'd put korg, electroplankton, and a lot of other ds software you just mess around with in your spare time, rather than putting your nose to the grindstone and beating it.

That's incredibly depressing. :(

We have to figure out a way to get the T-rex through there. Is there another object that shares the same sprite as T-rex? I tried Edy, but he just keeps eating me.

The other complaints I take as valid, but in hours of playtime already I have only experienced freezes when trying to replicate the documented glitches. I have never had a lock-up while trying to beat a level so far.
