Too right, I've bought quite a few of the things over time and haven't come across a dead one yet. They're pretty darn robust (can't say the same for every Mega CD, though).Megadragon15 said:Happy birthday, Sega Genesis. 20 years? Sheesh. The funny thing is, there are a lot of working ones after all this time out there. I don't think I can say the same thing in 20 years from now for any main console sold today(Wii, X-Box360, PS3).

Though it's far more interesting with games in it of course..

The Game Shop I bought it from (over 200 miles away from where I live) said they paid ÂŁ600 for it back when the Mega Drive was the best selling console. I got it for ÂŁ50. Holds 140 games and I have just over 100 so far in it.
I love the Mega Drive (not so mad on it's American name, guess because I didn't grow up with it called Genesis): the games are so cheap to collect and I still keep finding games I've never heard of that turn out to be great. My Multi Mega is my most prized system in my gaming collection, add to that a Master Converter and 32X (eventually, I still don't own one because they're quite expensive here) and you have 4 systems in one.![]()

Were Castle of Illusion and Quackshot developed by Capcom? I always thought they were developed by Sega internally?Tiktaalik said:Genesis was a pretty hugely significant system. It allowed an alternative to Nintendo which got some new developers into console development in a big way, such as EA, and SEGA's different strategy allowed them to grab marketshare from Nintendo and showed that Big N wasn't invincible. Sony would later use the same strategy to take even more marketshare away from Nintendo.
At the time I was an SNES owner, and no kid really had multiple systems, but I played just about every significant release on my best friend's Genesis. Though the Sonic games weren't as good in my opinion as the SNES's Mario games, they were still fun to play and there was tons of other stuff on that system that we had a great time playing, like Earthworm Jim and Vectorman.
I recently got my own Genesis a few years ago and it's sitting at my parents house. I really need to start looking around for some of those exclusive games that my friend never had. Already I have Streets of Rage and Phantasy Star IV. I think I'm going to keep an eye out for the Capcom Disney games that never came to the SNES, Castle of Illusion and Quackshot.
Great montage!Gagaman said:Essential viewing: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cnp6Z32KAAg
Yeah, I'm pretty sure they weren't. But of the two, I've only played CoI.entrement said:Were Castle of Illusion and Quackshot developed by Capcom?
Yeah, they (along with World of Illusion and the Mega Drive version of Bonkers I believe) were all developed by Sega. Capcom did do one or two Mickey games on the Mega Drive (didn't come out in Europe for some reason, so I've never played them), but as far as Capcom Disney games go they were pretty much only on Nintendo systems. Sega's Disney games were just as good, though.entrement said:Were Castle of Illusion and Quackshot developed by Capcom? I always thought they were developed by Sega internally?

Tiktaalik said:Oh you're right! Both Castle of Illusion and Quackshot were done by Sega. I assumed they were done by Capcom since Mickey's Magical Quest for the SNES was made around the same time, and was a Capcom game. Well I've heard that both the Genesis Disney games are good anyway so they're worth picking up regardless of who made them.
Bolded are the ones everyone who owns a Mega Drive should get. You forgot Aladdin though! Also: Fantastia was developed by Infogrames and was terrible, sadly. Lion King and Toy Story are alright, but yeah I can agree they're crazy hard. I quite like Bonkers as a kid but playing it again recently it was merely ok but nothing special.A Black Falcon said:The Great Circus Mystery (Capcom) (also on SNES)

I didn't know it was Europe only for Genesis. It's a great game btw. I heard the SNES version is supposed to be better, but the Genesis version is definitely not a bad game.A Black Falcon said:Donald in Maui Mallard (Europe only on Genesis) (also (in US too) on SNES, PC, GB)
Short answer? No.woodypop said:Is Tale Spin good?
A Black Falcon said:Capcom only made one Genesis Disney game, and it was a port of an SNES game -- The Great Circus Mystery, aka Mickey's Magical Quest 2. The rest of the Disney games on the Genesis (and SMS) were done by Sega in the early years, before Virgin got the license later on.

Castle and World of Illusion are both very good games. The Great Circus Mystery is good too, but the SNES version is probably better. Quackshot is good. Fantasia evidently isn't so good, but I haven't played it. Toy Story and Lion King really are graphics over gameplay... not horrible games, but they're often frustrating games on any platform. The rest... who knows, but given Hi Tech Expressions usually made bad games I wouldn't expect much from that one.
