Nice car! My brother and I have a 1988 3 series which needs an engine replaced, hopefully within the next year we will get around to it.pirahna1 said:1987 BMW 535iS. Cosmic Bus said:You can tell I'm not a car guy because out of all the stuff in the thread, this is one I like best. A rock-solid "normal" car is all I'll ever need. Does it get me back and forth from work? Perfect.

None of the cars in here are for "rich" people. Even the Porsche Cayman can be afforded by a upper-middle class person.shaft said:nice cars, GAF is rich![]()

How much do those stock rims weigh? Must be heavy.AlphaSnake said:WTF? I never even noticed you posted here! It's NYPD-Arnold from the ORG. Anyways, here's my car:

Oh wow, that's not bad. The rims the previous owner put on my car (the ones you see in the OP), weigh 23lbs (!!!!) each. Wayyyy to heavy.AlphaSnake said:Actually, they're not heavy at all. 22lbs front, 23 rear (the 2nd lightest of all the Zs offerings). It's the reason why I still have them, because I can't find a rim light enough that's worth a purchase. All of the "lightweight" rims I see are 20lbs, 21lb, 22lbs -- not worth the price for a pound or 2 of savings.
What I did do was get rid of my terrible OEM Potenzas, and get Michelin Pilot Sports, which saved me 7lbs per tire. Weight reduction has been just one of my many mods. =)

He also left the stock tires - rated 215 wide - on a 7.5" rim, which requires 235 wide tires...
I'm looking at the OZ Ultraleggera, which are 8" wide and weigh 18lbs each. I'm also thinking of getting a lightweight battery trey and battery from CP-e, which would save an extra 40lbs - but that shit costs like $300 with the battery.
Sometime in the future I'll put on a carbon-fiber hood and get it painted, but that's another $900. Just doing those three mods would save me at least a 100lbs though - which is quite a good performance mod.
All of that combined is like $2500 :lol I just might upgrade the turbo at that point.
265s? Damn. Wonder how far you'll have to roll your fenders to make that fit.AlphaSnake said:Yeah, my rims are light considering they're 18x8 and 18x8.5 with a polished finish. Also, from experience, I will tell you NOT to buy a lightweight battery. They die overnight all the time and are a major pain in the ass, even the larger ones. I never owned one, but I have a friend that did, and it's not fun having your battery die on you in the middle of nowhere Long Island in the winter.
Back to the topic of rims and wheels, soon enough I'll need a wider setup. With all of the new power I have now, my 245 rears can't keep the traction as well as they once used to, and the car is more prone to fishtailing, so I'll have to step up to a 265 rear to keep it planted. But first, an all new engine management system to tune my setup some moaarr. =)

What are you putting down to the wheels right now?
reilo said:BTW, the Alleggerita HLT come in 18x8 and 18x18.5 at 18lbs front/19lbs back each. Not sure if Tirerack is correct, but they say it would fit the 350z.
That's pretty impressive curb weight for track day. Right now my Speed6 is listed at 3590lb curb weight - which is what you'd expect with a four-door AWD midsize car. The Legacy GT Spec B Weighs around 3520lbs. I'd love to get that number in the 3400s though, which would be just sick. I think stock it's pushing 220WHP, so with a better intake (right now it's running the Mazdaspeed CAI), and some exhaust work and a little tuning, I could be pushing 250whp, maybe a little more, which would be quite quick.AlphaSnake said:Oh, no rolling involved. With Zs you don't need to roll until at least 295. As far as WHP, I've yet to dyno the car. Stock, it'll dyno around 245WHP. So with my mods I wouldn't be surprised to get near 280WHP, or so (that's about what others see with the same mods).
What's important to note is that when stock, my car weighed 3250 with a full tank of gas (weighed by me). Now, it's about 3170lbs (a lot of my mods also saved weight). It's 3135lbs without tools and spare, and about 3050 with a 1/4 tank of gas. When I go to the track in the spring, I'll be running the car with a 1/4 tank and no spare or tools. So it's a fairly light car too - which makes putting down that power even harder.
Yeah if you're going wider to actually to get some power out of your car, then going lighter won't help you at this point.AlphaSnake said:I'm looking to go a little wider to fill out the tires so the sidewalls don't roll and flex as much. Probably 8.5 fronts, and 9s or 9.5 for the rear.

Just need to drop the weight down.
Yeah if you're going wider to actually to get some power out of your car, then going lighter won't help you at this point.
I also need to get my car inspected under warranty to make sure everything is kosher and find out what mods the previous owner did - cause the car is lowered, too, and I'm curious what the suspension setup is.
