As good as Yoshimi 5.1 is, I can't wait for this one. I would love for them to do Zaireeka next but I know it's not going to happen. They want the album to be unpredictable so they will never release a full mix of it.

There is a fan made 5.1 mix of Zaireeka out there, ive seen the torrent a few times when ive been searching around.

Ive never listened to yoshimi or soft bulletin in 5.1, is it worth it (i have the regular CDs of each)?

Yes, the fan-made Zaireeka 5.1 DVD is amazing. Great video quality (mainly 2001/12 Monkeys footage, along with some Harryhausen), great audio quality. Only reason it will never get released officially is because of all the unlicensed movie footage.

You bet. Completely excellent, probably one of the best 5.1 mixes I own (and I own a lot).

and torrent, eh? I may have to look into this.

EDIT: you have this dvd?

I dont have the fan dvd, i tried to get it but no seeds (this was a while ago). Ive been meaning to try again though.

With the Yoshimi 5.1 mix does it play on a standard DVD player? I'm a little confused because the website talks about video footage which makes me think it's a regular DVD, but the disc art has a DVD-A logo which makes me think it'll need a player capable of playing DVD-A (if there's any difference at all, I don't really know).

Yes it will play in a standard DVD player. From the description, it says "Advanced Resolution 5.1 and 2.0 as well as Dolby Digital 5.1 and 2.0" which means that if you have a DVD-A player you can listen to the advanced resolution but if you just have a regular DVD player you can still listen to the Dolby 5.1 mix.

the difference? I won't get into the specifics, but DVD-A has a higher sample rate making for a fuller sound. (i.e. standard CD is 44.1 kHz/16-bit and DVD-A can be 192 kHz[though usually 96 khz]/24-bit).

Okay, cool. So DVD-A > DD5.1 > CD? Or DVD-A = DD5.1 > CD? I'm going to get a new DVD player soon, one which hopefully plays DVD-A as well as SACD, but this should fill in the time between then nicely.

it seems to be limited or something as the borders here is only getting two copies. When I asked about ordering an extra one they said they were unable to because the supplier wasn't offering it for order (???) but they said they'd try to hold one of the two that came in.

I still need to pick this up. I dont have a DVD-A player, but i do have a 5.1 setup and regular dvd player, will this work with such a setup?

On a side note, pre-release copies of At War With the Mystics are already out there, bet it will be leaked in the near future.

I just recently picked up Yoshimi 5.1. I've got some issues with the album, but the 5.1 mix is one of the most beautiful things I've ever heard.

Gotta pick up The Soft Bulletin.

Yeah. part of the "backwards compatibility" so that anyone can listen to the 5.1, even if they don't have the DVDA capabilities.

I found a glitch and I hope it's just mine so I can return it. When I try to listen to the demos or play the videos the disc causes my player to crash. Yeah, my home theater DVD player crashes. I've never seen anything like it. It either turns the system off or freezes and it requires an unplugging to restart. There's nothing wrong with the actual album though and it sounds quite good in 5.1

Isn't it though? This ranks as my #1 5.1 mix with The Downward Spiral being #2.

On January 31, 2006, "The Soft Bulletin" was re-released in a CD/DVD a remastered CD and a DVD-Audio disc containing a 5.1-channel surround sound version of the album. Notably, the tracklist for the discs in this package are different from prior releases. The CD and DVD in this package use the UK tracklist without the three remixes at the end. In place of the remixes, the songs "The Spiderbite Song" and "Buggin'" are added at the end. Some early releases of this package were shipped with the wrong CD. The CD that was shipped was a copy of the original US CD instead of the remastered CD with the alternate tracklist. The Flaming Lips are offering replacement CDs for those who bought a CD/DVD package with the wrong CD.

The Soft Bulletin shipped with the wrong CD... it should have been the new rockin' re-mastered version (it really does sound awesome!!!!) that matches the playlist on the tray card. Don't take them back to the store.... mail the CD to the FLips PO Box and they'll send you a new disc with a personal apology from Mr. Michael Ivins... sound good? It's going to take a week or so (??) to get the correct discs in before we can send them to you.

PLUS!: The DVDA spec changed at some point and as a result, some models (Pioneer) can't play the DVD... I'll keep digging to find out which ones. The DVD is good... the DVDA consortium is screwy.

Send the CD only to:
