The Spoony Experiment

The "story-lines" and "characters" are usually bile though.

Like I said, I don't mind them. There are absolutely horrid ones out there (The Game Overthinker and Irate Gamer come to mind), but the others I can stand without any issues.

I just feel like shouting at the screen "For the love of God, please stop acting. You're not very good at it and your storyline's and characters are about as creative and nuanced as an episode of Eldorado. Just because The Nostalgia Critic started all this nonsense, doesn't mean you should do it as well. Now please stop."

Basically. Look at Spoony's best stuff. Phantasmagoria has little acting in it. It has a little, tiny bit in the last video, but it's just a parody of the game's terrible acting, so it works nicely.

But do you like the good jokes, or do you like "story lines" and "characters?"

The irony of people criticizing and mocking bad games, bad TV shows and bad movies churning out such diarrhea was not lost on me. It'd be like if Roger Ebert had turned half of his reviews back in the day into "hilarious" parodies or stories with cameos from other popular critics at the time. It would be awful. The proliferation of storylines and cameos that happened to the TGWTG dudes just killed the site for me.

The point is that it's the game that is the main focus and nothing else. There's so much good material that he doesn't need to pad it out with needless skits and convoluted storylines. It's simple, it's elegant and, most importantly, it works.

He has to ask himself is there a point in putting together these elaborate videos which take up so much of his time in terms of editing and writing and he should just get back to basics; let the games/movies take centre stage and leave Dr. Insano and his other 'hilarious' characters behind. His output has declined because he gives himself far too much work to do in post-production.

@JesuOtaku Y'know, if things don't work out with you and @Nash076, I'd be happy to chain you to a pipe in my basement and love you. My way.

Really? This is what set off the powderkeg? To me this could just as easily have been a joke invite for consensual BDSM.

Not only that but it was over a month old and apologies were already given?

Imagine if he had made an Aristocrats joke.

*NSFW do not watch if you are offended by ANYTHING AT ALL*

Wow...Some people just can't take a joke.

Spark that ignited a much deeper issue, Lupa who rekindled the whole thing called Spoony out on the rape comment for being part of a larger sexual harassment campaign against the female employees by Spoony. Spoony handling of the situation was terrible, not the first time either, and Channel Awesome just decided to cut their losses.

Spoony breathed a heavy sigh before gazing at the wall of victims. A series of pictures pinned to his back wall. Justice would be swift, justice would be brutal; he pondered how best to wage his war of terror on the women of That Guy With The Glasses. Angered by his own impotence and declining ad revenue, he tossed back his greasy locks of festering hair and laughed, "Fear me Lupu" he muttered to himself "For you will know fear through my shitty rape jokes". It didn't matter who he hurt or how, all he knew was that he wanted to be free from That Guy With The Glasses. His campaign of terror had only just begun.

It wasn't the rape joke. Everyone has already said that wasn't the issue alone.

For months now, Spoony has been swearing and insulting everyone on Twitter. This has been common knowledge. He's constantly posting mean and depressing things about himself and others. Finally, TGWTG got sick of it, because that's not how you address your fans professionally, and he wasn't willing to act like a mature content creator. They didn't want to associate with someone who treats people like that, so they tried to get him to stop.

He was suspended for a few weeks, but decided to leave entirely.

Stop saying it was all about a rape joke. Lupa obviously had been annoyed with his action on twitter for a while now, and she only said that as one example of why she was mad.

He's always made jokes about gay people. Not saying it's right, but it's part of his usual schtick. Look back at LP: Phantasmagoria 2.

Yeah i watched it a few days ago, he's a funny guy and i was just hoping that the gay jokes were self aware and not ignorance.

I don't think he's ignorant or dislikes gay people, I think it's just a gag. The only real reason he always makes fun of Trevor is because of how stereotypical he is early on, plus I remember several times towards the end, Spoony says it's bullshit they killed Trevor, who was the only likable or relatable person in the game in the end.

Can you guys really not tell sarcasm? Holy shit. That's the most obvious anti-anti-gay joke he could make (The part about the cure). The first part about Ponfarr isn't even really a gay joke other than being ABOUT gayness, not anti or pro. I get that it's a touchy subject sometimes, but the alternative to THAT kind of joke which makes no judgement, is that we simply ignore homosexuality when it comes to humor completely, which is far more insulting imo.

You'd hope so. But I'm not so sure his personality is well rounded enough for me to give him the benefit of the doubt. I can't remember if it was him or someone else, but whoever it was, they threw the word 'fag' and its derivatives around in one of their videos a little too much for my tastes. Anyway, his twitter joke was clearly in jest in my opinion.

It's kind of like when someone uses the "N" word though, that isn't black, like Louis C.K., or even when he says what you said. It can definitely work in the right context, and it usually is funniest to the people that the word is usually hurtful towards.

So he left because he was being a little bitch to some abusive twitter users and when told to be professional and ignore them he thought that was asking too much? Shame.

going with Lupa and Lordkat discussion, Spoony shitty behavior toward women started since Scarlet left him and it look like when they were filming the 4th anniversary the female crew of Channel Awesome just couldn't take it anymore.

His main complaint with Final Fantasy X was the the lead character is "faggy", "looks like a fag" and other things involving the word "fag". He can't earnestly claim it's self-aware after that performance.

Ah yes, thank you for reminding me why I didn't get past the first video. Spoonies earlier videos were actually engaging and funny, some of the things he said made me shake my head a bit but I let it slide because I was being entertained. I think at some point he suffered a lack of inspiration or enthusiasm and has been trying to fill that void with insults and vulgarity and it simply doesn't work.

I just came to say LOL. The guy uses save states? He runs a show on how to beat hard games, using save states? LOL! And then he calls Spoony a waste of talent and calls him a failure? double lol.

Did you look at the release dates? For the most part he was releasing one video a week. There's no way you could do that without doing save states. If he had done it without save states and only released one or two videos a month I'm sure his fans would of been whining about wanting him to release videos faster.

Oh dear, you can't really defend that. I mean someone like Louis CK has earned the right to deconstruct the word 'faggot'. There exists a bond of trust between him and the audience that allows Louis to explore such material. Spoony's comment falls into the mild homophobia category, where there's zero trace of irony and the comment can only be taken at face value. No wonder his hardcore fanbase has such a shitty reputation as it's those type of comments that attracts the morons and the idiots who, no doubt, lap that unfunny crap up.

In that case, like I said before, he should position the conceit of the series differently. If you make it the gaming equivalent of Man vs. Food, then it's ok to fail and it's ok, to say, you had to ultimately use save states to beat the game.

What was on the video? It's been taken down so I cannot see it.

Basically a guy that came off as sounding crazy. He said he hated Spoony, multiple times in multiple ways, and that Spoony should kill himself. Not in those exact words, but it's not even subtle or hinted at, in fact it's fairly graphic.

Lordkat was total a piece of poop in that brodcast of him ( bringing Miles into Spoony's shit? really) and he failed to realize that Spoony stupidity at E3 was the reason for losing many of Blistered Thumbs crew their chance as gaming journalists and not just him.

The funniest thing about LordKats streams on the matter was when Lupa came on to one of the streams. LordKat was continuously being like "Isn't Spoony completely unprofessional and shitty to be around?!" for multiple variations and Lupa was like "Well, no, he actually acted pretty normal the times I met him. He just needs to get his Twitter comments under control," and that was often met with LordKat responding "Well he's shitty anyway!"

And most of the people still think that she threw him under a bus.

What other streams does he discuss it in?
