The Spoony Experiment

Yeah extreme nitpicking especially for "bigger" games in terms of length I think is a no go. Unless its something that really really stands.

A good example of nitpicking is Mr. Plinkett, he simply asks a minor question and moves on. He doesn't spend an extended period of time going over this question. He reserves time for the bigger issues, like lack of character development, lack of tension, the movie's impact on culture, and so on.

Probably the worst example of nitpicking I've ever seen is the Irate Gamer in his Aladdin review, where he spent a minute and a half complaining about Abu's presence in the game. You could tell he was reaching for something to bitch about since Aladdin (this is the SNES version) is actually a good game. Not that he cared, it was a terrible review either way.

Oh yeah I remember that review and that's a really good point. There's a need for nitpicking but like you said it needs to be done simply and then move onto the rest of the review

The 13 review get any better?

So far it sucks. That was 30 minutes of dwelling on pretty minor bits over and over. Some of the stuff like the robes and the 1st boss fight seemed somewhat forced too. I expected a bit more after the hilarity of the 10 reviews.

I didn't like his first part too much (It's like Spoony tried to channel a Plinkett stream of consciousness without fully understanding that it's not simply a matter of rambling on about something minor).

Part 2, where he really starts to pick apart the story's dumb points, is really where it starts to get entertaining.

I used to have Bayou Billy as a kid.
I never got past the first few levels without Game Genie.

I just watched the review for it.
It was completely fucking accurate and hilarious.
That game is a sick, disgusting joke.

just to get back to NC for a bit:

PF72ZCf.gif

So first off I thought it was hilarious! :D

But more important than that traffic jumped HUBE when NC was released! and sure it went down after that day but page views were in the plus for the first time in months and I had real life friends talking about the NC for the first time in months.

so yeah keep up the quality and releases I guess?

People like what they know, even when it's not good. So the shitty usual thing is easier to swallow than the shitty exotic thing.

The second part is much better!

Thats definitely good to see.

Now back to spoony.
Glad he did a part 2, leaving the review like that was just as bad as Dirty harry.

Wow, is Spoony back to his old self at this point?

yeah. he got a new girlfreind, stopped his crazy twitter comments,he is getting the right medications for his condition now( former Psychiatrist totally screwed him with wrong medications) all is good now.

Good God. I finally clicked on that link.

Optima change was perfectly understandable? Science fiction isn't fantasy? WAT!?!? 4 mins in and this is nigh unendurable Bij.

keep going..more horrible stuff are waiting for you (mostly about localizations too).

Not Spoony update , but something till he release his next FFXIII video

MarzGurl Reviews Final Fantasy XIII - Episode 2

I'd say she is more miss than hit with this part of her review, some really bad points this time
Ugh. Sorry. I couldn't make it through this. Especially since this girl didn't exactly realize what they were going for with regards to the overall tone of the localization.

I mean, I liked Optima Change too, because it fit with their crazy Latin schtick better than Paradigm Shift did. But so many changes were for the best, especially since they fit better with the militaristic formation changes that they were going for to link it better to Lightning's occupation as a soldier. Especially when you're looking salience with regards to syntax/semantics and general English construction.

I have never ever met anyone who told me "Jammer" was better than "Saboteur". Ever. I slip up and use the Japanese classes in explanations because that's the version I played first, but no... just... no. Naw, man. "Stagger" used in the English version much better than "Break" used in the JP version. "Wound" used in the English version better than "Blood Damage" in the Japanese version. Just because it consists of borrowed terms in Japanese doesn't make it better than its English counterpart; some things do need to be changed for better flow or because there's a better lexical counterpart. smh.

Shit, even the song used for Snow and Serah's date in the English version lyrically fit better than the insert song after thinking about it. The only thing she has a point with is the silly Leona Lewis song.

No thanks.

Not entirely. I sometimes do see him getting angry and yelling at people. Like when he went on a tirade about people that only watch the Superbowl for the commercials, and yelled at people for liking The Walking Dead video game (he has that "stop liking what I don't like" mentality that I sometimes see here on GAF). I imagine once Doctor Who starts back up next month, there will be a lot of "DOCTOR WHO IS SHIT BECAUSE IT DOESN'T TAKE ITSELF SERIOUSLY RAAAAWR!" tweets.

These do happen less often though.

Meh. That was just her standard stupid "Japanese version is better and I can't be bothered to explain why." shtick.

Her trying to sing in Japanese was just spiteful tho.

Spoony is right about TWD tho, I can't even count it as a real game.

Yup.

she got completely destroyed in the comments by the way, maybe she will change her attitude and review style (and do more research )next time.

I still argue Spoony's "Let's Play Phantasmagoria 2" is his best work, and probably some of the best internet-born video content on the entire web. This sounds depressing probably but I've watched it about half a dozen times or so just because I know it will always be a good laugh. It's like a good movie or TV show.

(Also I brought this up because I started watching it again today.)

yeah his FMV game reviews series were pretty fantastic.

Seriously, it's like a perfect mix of what seems semi-scripted and written stuff, and a lot of off-the-cuff stuff. Even the running gags are fantastic. It's just so well done and funny to see such a strange and obscure game get this kind of treatment.

Same here, but I don't get down on myself for it. It's freaking hilarious, and it's an easy way to put myself in a good mood sometimes. Plus, it's great to watch while doing laundry stuff. : P

Oh I definitely agree. Not for super involved stuff, but it's awesome as background noise when writing a paper or doing something along those lines. And I was definitely having a rotten day today and this helped out with it a bit for sure.

I finished up watching Phantasmagoria 2, and all I can think now is that Spoony needs to do another LP of an obscure FMV game. He's so on-point in that LP.

Spoony & April Try Mitsuwa Market Food

Fun little video, but the real reason this is interesting is because Spoony went back to Springboard instead of Youtube which is kind of lame (at least for me since I have a shitty computer).

So weird, but I've actually seen his girlfriend before. Worked at a book store I used to visit. Never talked to her, except maybe ask where the graphic novel section is, lol. It's weird seeing someone I've seen in real life on the internet like that though.

Somebody needs to convince Spoony to do another Let's Play of an FMV game. I just finished watching the RIpper one, and I need more.

Is it really his girlfriend or just some random girl?

I had Bayou Billy as a kid, and I beat it without cheating. Just like in any other beat-'em-up of its kind, you have to take advantage of the fact that your attacks have a wider range than the enemy's. Don't stand still in a war of attrition, move up a bit and attack as they walk into your range, move up a bit and attack, etc.

I'd never defend it as a GOOD game, but it's hardly impossible. The driving parts are like hell itself.

I also hated his review because he was shocked that enemies wearing bulletproof vests can repel bullets. Jump kick to knock away the vest, then shoot. Makes perfect video game sense to me.

Nobody said anything negative about his hair a single time in the history of this thread ever. Seriously, how do you even get that?

Is he taking a break with XIII?

Seriously. He hasn't added anything to that in 3 months. Not that I care; I actually found that review much less funny than his FFX review. Most of the review he was complaining about fantasy elements in a Final FANTASY game instead of the actually valid complaints that have torn the game apart for years.
