The Spoony Experiment

He knows that what he is doing is hyperbolic nitpicking and he is aware that that is what the majority of his fans like. I find it hilarious.

Probably he rewrote/is rewriting the script. He was prepared to get XIII video up every other week but he scrapped the old script because of the focus in music. He rushed the first videos out, who knows when he will continue. I think we will see it resurface in april.

I'm still a fan; I loved his VIII and X reviews, as well as all of his movie reviews. It just seems like the complaints were less well thought out and insightful then the others.

Personally I'd love if he knocked out XIII soon and went back to reviewing something FMV related. Those reviews are my favorite and I absolutely love Demolition Man on 3DOs review. I always though Harvester would be a good fit for a review or let's play.

Also I'm still waiting on minority report

Probably spending some time with his new girlfriend too. I have hopes that in the long term this will be the end of moping Spoony for a while and we get the Spoony of old who gets shit done :).

Shroud of the Avatar has hit the $1.5 million mark, so that means:

I really love Spoony, but he's so inconsistent and his reviews take too much time. I hope we'll get new part of ff13 review before summer, sigh

I actually like how long his reviews are. Also, more Counter Monkey and less standard "reviews" is fine with me.

EDIT: Nevermind, I thought you were talking about the actual running time of some of his videos. Strike that first part.

So it's been 3 years since the last FFXIII review.

(I'm guessing you meant months.)

Yeah, it's kind of crazy. I really hope he stops with these super-structured reviews after XIII, but part of me wonders how his channel is doing putting out content so sparsely. I don't like to get into the personal lives of these people, but the videos are his only job right?

I hope after all this Counter Monkey and Final Fantasy XIII stuff he goes back to some FMV game reviews.

I personally feel those are his best. Just about all of them are just so enjoyable even when watching multiple times.

The problem is those videos probably don't appeal to a lot of his viewers. I know I don't want to hear someone talk at length about specific aspects of tabletop gaming.

But I'm sure the people that like them really like them.

I don't know if he writes his commentary, but on that Phantasmagoria playthough everything he said was gold.

Yes, I'm pretty sure he follows a script that he writes beforehand.

An hour and a half review of Bioshock Infi.

Holy shit, this is what I'm talking about! I haven't watched the video yet, but this is what I want.

Basically these videos are best because we all know Spoony's tastes and how selective he is with certain stuff at this point, so listening to these unscripted reviews of big modern games always fascinates me, or at the very least keeps me entertained.

I would be totally down with that, but I think he could still do CM as I don't think it eats up as nearly as much time as the FF XIII reviews.

The Phantasmagoria Let's Play is one of the best things on the internet, entertainment wise. It's so fun to watch and I've watched it at least a half-dozen times. If you want my advice, I suggest watching his Let's Play of Ripper next. Same type of game, same type of fun Let's Play.

I'm not sure, but I'd venture to guess you're right. I think the thing about Spoony and his viewers at this point is that we've been watching stuff made by this guy from what...5 or 6 years now? Anyway, it's been a long time and he puts content out very sparsely. Usually like 3-5 videos a month. It's not like RLM where it's a solid, semi-consistent schedule of releasing stuff. Basically what I'm saying is that I think his fans will watch anything he puts out at this point.

For me, I couldn't care less about D&D or PnP RPG's, at least before watching the series, but after watching a few episodes of CM, I was absolutely enthralled and sucked into a lot of his stories. I know you said that you're not interested about a lot of that stuff, but if I could perhaps hook you, I'd suggest watching this video about Spoony doing a LARP which he absolutely destroys because...well he's Spoony. It's absolutely hilarious and entertaining.

Also, I agree with a lot of the stuff Spoony says about Bioshock: Infinite, but none of that stuff bothers me except they never even explain how Booker can jump off of sky-hooks unto the ground. I'm fine with it being in the game, but I would have at least liked an off-hand comment as to why that's possible. Especially jarring when there's fall-damage.

Somebody created a FF VIII thread and I had to post the review...I think I'm going to give it another watch. Besides his LP's, it's one of my favorites. Anyone with me?

It's pretty obvious he was just trying to troll FF8 lovers. But as long as you don't have an undying love of the game, it's a pretty funny set of videos. The skits are bad though, as usual in internet review videos.

I loved it all except the skits but hey, what are you gonna' do? I definitely think he generally dislikes the game though, obviously not as much as his persona in the videos but to some extent.

MAN ! I wish I beat the game already so that I can go and watch/support this!

Guess It has to go on the list to finish asap.

The review is quite good. He brings up a lot of points most reviewers seem to glance over, but a lot of his criticisms are typical plot nitpicks. Not even major ones eve, just stuff like "how can you be perfectly fine after jumping off a giant magnetic rail from 30 ft above the ground, but you take fall damage in other spots?" Stuff like that mostly.

That is pretty much Spoony in a nutshell, i enjoy much of his content and his reviews of X Files and The Thing are classics. But he often cannot wrap the entire experience and talk about it, he has to dissect everything into the smallest pieces and take one at a time, makes his reviews feel disjointed and whiny. And after you are done watching them you dont actually have any feel for what this movie/game/show is actually about.
He is alot like ConfusedMatthew who mostly does movie reviews, they both get swept into small details that are not really all that important just for the sake of complaining about them.

Its like watching a movie with a magnifying glass stuck to your head, you will notice some small things but the overall picture is completely lost

Totally, but that's what I love about it. I usually go through stories in entertainment and take them for what they are; I mean sometimes plot points will get to me, but more often than not I realize that it just is what it is. Funny enough I was kind of bothered (very, very slightly) by the jumping off a skyline and being perfectly fine in Infinite. I don't know why. I mean if they would have just said "hey, your boots allow you to land from higher distances than normal." or something, than I'd be fine with that. I mean just do what you did with the shield juice; drink this juice, you have a shield. That's fine.

Anyway, I like how he gets so fixated on that stuff because it's funny to see someone just rip any inconsistencies to part. It's kind of silly at the end of the day, because this is all just fictional content, set in a fictional world (pretty much), but it's still entertaining.

I found that scare compilation he mentioned and all the comments are from some people featured in the video complaining cause their channel didn't get the views.... Then trying to half-assedly throw copyright infringement in his face. (meanwhile none of their videos even feature copyright messages) I've never seen other compilation vids get "attacked" in such a way.

Just jelly Ken Levine didn't retweet their vids I guess. Not to mention the video gets no ad revenue so they wouldn't be making anything anyways. Youtube non-"celebrities" getting uppity over like counts and stuff is hilarious.

awesome, with his Bioshock and FFXIII review he's back to the quality of video's I'm used to.

Keep up the good work Spoony, and I agree 100% on his Bioshock review.
Great graphics, nice story, mediocre and repetitive gameplay

Be sure to stick to the hallway, ok guys?

"NO! You may not leave the hallway. The wall of hexagons forbids it!"

I fucking lost my shit on this.
