The streets of Philly

Yeah. I was driving through west Philly a few months ago and saw 2 dudes riding horses. Mind you this is in the middle of the city around 56 and chestnut. I'm like, where are these mysterious stables that I've never seen

This post is as our of touch and idiotic as the people who live in Rittenhouse square

Indeed...after five years of working down there I consider Rittenhouse Square as the last place I would go to whenever I come back to the city.

There is a black community of horseback riders that feel that it's important to teach young black kids to care for and ride horses. They've got high school kids going straight to the stables after school to help groom them and such.

That's amazing. We need more stuff like this for black kids. Expands our Horizons and introduces us to things outside of our comfort zone we probably wouldn't be introduced to in everyday life.

I was just down in Philly for the Offspring concert.

Didn't see anything like that.

Now my life feels incomplete.

That's near 5th and Spring Garden, which is actually where the horse carriage rides are! That concert was a little late to see them though.

Why does every Philly topic become a magnet for the city haters?
It's pretty terrible. Despite being a very nice, cool, livable city with some of the best restaurants in the world and a great bar and music scene we still can't shake our old Filthadelphia reputation.

I love San Francisco, but that city is a cesspool compared to Center City Phila. Dirty and even more homeless people, if that's possible. And people go on and on about how nice it is.

Granted there are a few cities that are nicer and have more stuff to do than Philly, but within the US it's only a handful. NYC, SFO, Chicago, DC, LA.

Philadelphia is just very divided. Our bad neighborhoods are among the worst in the country. But our nice neighborhoods, which now encompass a pretty large "greater center city" area, are among the best in the U.S. We have history, culture, and a unique vibe that you won't get anywhere else. I love my hometown.

I like Philly. it's a neat little city with tons of small buildings and modern glass ones (like that pyramid near Drexel U) and old churches and plenty of nice bars and cool people and great restaurants, but boy doesn't it not feel safe to walk around that city at night. This is coming from someone who hangs around Manhattan at 3-5 AM in NYC.

Center City Philadelphia and the neighborhoods that are near it are best in class, and it makes me very happy that I moved here/live here now.

That being said, North/West/South/East/Whatever Else Philly are some rough spots

We have a small group in my area like that to, trying to teach responsibilities to young people. They are at the mall parking lot most Saturday mornings with activities and fun stuff for the kids. Good stuff.
