The super duper pre-E3ton Wii / Revolution thread

I'm curious to see what sorta backlash will occur. We know the Wii won't be as powerful as the x360, but how will the fanboys react? :lol Still what matters to me is the gameeeeessss

If there's anything we know for certain about the Wii, it's how the fanboys will react:

N-fans: Wii games look just as good as 360 games and have superior gameplay!!! Nintendo makes everyone else irrelevent. PS3 am doomed!!! Mario!!!!

N-haters: Wii games look just as good as Atari 2600 games and have nothing but gimmicky gameplay. Oh yeah, and N-fans are the most pathetic people on the planet (but we hate because we care).

X-fans: Wii am doomed!!! Halo 3!!! Halo 3!!!

Sony fans: Wii am doomed!!! MGS4!!! MGS4!!!

Listen skullbone. You keep making baseless predictions like that based out from the environment you come from, which is full of anti-Nintendo weed, then you're going to find yourself eating more shitty fertilizer then all of the Sony & Microsoft fanboys combined if things dont come out like you expect in your master plan.

I think it's funny that someone who sounds like such a Nintendo supporter, would have an avatar of one of the games that helped put Nintendo in the place they're in right now.

Unless you guys missed it, gaybrush hinted at excitebike in that other thread. The prospect of that sounds awesome. 2 revmotes, each being the bike's handle would ROCK.
what happens when you move the revmotes in a way that contradicts their being attached ala a handle bar (ie. turn the bike left and right)? I wouldexpect one controler with gas and brake as the buttons twisting ala wario ware for turning and lifting or tilting the controller forward to control angle in the air/wheelies and tilting the controller sideways to lean.

you fall off your bike.. or as i mentioned in the ign thread, have an attachment bar that connects the two controllers together.

Worst rebuttal ever. Seriously.

I think it's funny that you had so much to say, but you still haven't pushed a mod to put your bet in your tag.

That excitebike idea sounds lame. Holding the revmote like a steering wheel would be lame as you'd have to suspend it in mid air.

However :D if you did make an attachment and stick two revmotes on each end - twist to throttle anyone? nah but even so if you was just holding it in front of you the game would not be very enjoyable or feel realistic.

My idea of how it would play - just one handed, trigger to throttle. When you jump tilt back and forth to change angle. When you turn point left or right (as seen in teaser video) and also rotate left or right to mimic how riders lean into a corner with their knee right near the ground.

Hey man, I've put the idea out there. I've even suggested having 3 unbiased judges decide if Nintendo's E3 conference is all that or all talk.

If you guys want it done, go ahead. GAF is nothing more than an addictive problem. If my account is gone, it's gone.

And then you can find some one else to pick on ;p

Who exactly has made the claim that Nintendo's E3 conference is going to be the end of the end? I think its just really hyped in terms of seeing the Wii games.

Are you just trying to be perma banned as a way to end your GAF addiction?

Not that I'm defending Citrus Lump on his view of the games themselves, but how can you deny that there is a good chance that he is correct about the controller being gimmicky? If history tells us anything, it's that Nintendo doesn't always strike gold with their ideas. Yeah, I'll admit that the NES, SNES & N64 controllers have paved the way for games today, but since then we've seen bongos, microphones, tilt functions and touchscreens in hopes of recapturing their former glory. Not all of their new ideas have really been that great. There's just as much chance that the controller go the way of the bongos as it could the N64 controller.

The thing is, the Nintendo we all grew up with is gone. The new Nintendo has time and time again sacrificed one thing for another leaving gamers to turn to the competition. From what we know so far, Wii continues to follow that trend. The have sacrificed graphics for a new, unproven control method. When NES, SNES, N64 and GC came out, they all offered new control, but they also matched or exceeded the competition with graphics. Yeah, at first glance it appears that Nintendo is taking a lot of risk, but at the same time you can see that they are being very cautious. They introducing a new control scheme, but in case it bombs, they have their bases covered because it is inexpensive to manufacture and produce games for. If functions of the controller prove successful, but the system doesn't take off, they can cut their losses and make a more powerful system and still use the R&D they put into the remote in another new controller. When you look at it from this angle, it just doesn't seem like Nintendo is very confident. As a consumer, this worries me.

since this is a speculation thread.

Excitebike Wii is real apperantly, gaybrush semi-confirmed it. :D

I guess some people might've missed this because at the start of the podcast they said "No Nintendo Editors" because Matt was with his daughter and Craig was busy with DS news. But Craig turned up about 10 minutes in....

The main two news worthy bits were:

(1) He knows of at least 10 DS titles to be shown at E3, he expects at least double that amount - the main reason they're being kept under wraps is because they have Wii funcitonality.

(2) Now hears Wii will be out in September, says it probably won't be in US first because it is so far before Christmas that it doesn't matter (sounds like October for US).
jesus, if he meant DS titles that are yet to be announced.... omg :o

The part following the bold is disturbing. I don't like that wii functionality. Also, while i didn't like the name wii to begin with, the spelling is confusing the shit out of me because i keep reading it as wifi.

I keep seeing "wii" in any word that contains "wi". This must be Nintendo's marketing strategy.

The Wii-DS functionality is pretty interesting, perhaps the link between the two is the hidden secret of the console?

We got Stage Debut and Crystal Chronicles as almost definites for both systems. I hope it's not just GBA/GCN connectivity.

I doubt we will see a return to connectivity, apart from the odd title sharing data like Nintendogs or Animal Crossing or something.

I would like to see a DS-compatible Pac-Man Vs. available on the Virtual Console though :)

Oh I disagree. I think a selection of titles will feature heavy connectivity. The wireless-ness of it all cuts down some barriers.

Wireless connectivity could be quite good. I wouldn't mind games using the DS, or DS games being able to have features on Wii. New Super Mario Bros should be fully playable on Wii, through the DS!

Connectivity wasn't a bad idea, but forced connectivity sucked.

If they can communicate wirelessly out of the box, then that is fine.. having to buy the cable and a GBA to play multiplayer Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles was the dumbest thing ever, though.

I can't be the only one who thinks that Pac-Man Vs. DS with single-pack multiplayer would be the greatest thing ever can I? have 3-4x the number of courses even. Top screen could be the map for Pac-Man, bottom screen a FPS thing like Faceball 2000.

I think the biggest problem they found with connectivity though was coming up for any practical uses for it. It took them ages to come up with Pac-Man, and apart from Crystal Chronicles that's about it for decent uses of it.

Removing the wires makes it a lot more accessible, but it won't lead to a sudden explosion in creative uses for it. At the end of the day taking your eyes off a TV to look down at another tiny screen is never going to be that appealing or useful.

Downloads and data sharing between DS and Wii titles will work well though.

im packing a bowl just for that idea.

For some reason, I thought this needed to be quoted again.

Maybe Reggie will be able to convince television networks to interrupt daytime tv and cover the conference instead.
