If the terminator had succeeded in his mission, what would he have done with his remaining 120 years (t800's battery life)? Party? Get job? Kill more? Find love? Become governor? I want to see the alternate ending!
 
For the T2 haters, It's a good movie for Valentine's Day...

Watched T2 over Xmas break, forgot how fucking amazing it is. Pefectly paced, perfectly efficient in its plot.

Also thinking on drive home from work today how perfect the Terminator role was for Arnold. Somebody who already looks a little inhuman, and is really good at posing and controlling his body language. The scanning and odd Terminator movements he did in the first movie (and 2nd) were classic. Just the best series, and absolutely ridiculous theyre trying to remake them. Everyone should just stay home and watch these gems again.
 
I think this was the first R-rated movie I ever saw. Saw it on Cinemax with a start-time of like 2:15 AM. Was like six or seven. It was FUCKING AWESOME.
 
The Terminator is a result of Cold War era cinema, embracing a bleak, hopeless future born from a nuclear holocaust, layered in blue hued 80's cyber horror and smoky neon terror.
 
The Terminator 2 chase through the canal is arguably the best action sequence ever recorded on film. Notice how well each camera shot sets the viewer up for the next cut; you always know where the vehicles are at all times in relation to each other even when you can only see one of them. Notice how the actors give cues and lead the viewer towards where their target is. Look at all the establishing shots. This is absolutely fantastic film making. And there are several more scenes in T2 of comparable quality.

The original is great, but Terminator 2 is one of the best movies ever made.
 
A few problems I had with it: Reese is an asshole the entire movie. Not one nice scene between him and Sarah, so the whole sex scene fell really flat for me. Given that the whole thing was basically Reese bitching at Sarah while saving her, I didn't really feel they had enough character development to justify the "badass Sarah drives off to Mexico" ending. Acting wise, Arnold and Linda Hamilton were just so much better in T2.

Everything was so much better in T2. I think Cameron maybe topped himself and made the best action sequel of all time. It's better than Aliens.

Not sure anything has come close to topping it since. Maybe Dark Knight.

The Watchmen was a product of the Cold War era, a bleak and hopeless future layered with Vietnam acid flashbacks and celebrating vigilante murder.

Still the best graphic novel of all time.
 
Absolutely love the first two movies. T2 is one of the greatest of all time though. The soundtrack and action scenes, and effects that still mostly hold up..yep.

The main theme with the synths is relaxing and unsettling at the same time.
 
Love the original, as others have said it had the horror haunting, suspense. The story was better told in the original.

T2 is an amazing sequel and good continuation of the story, but to me it is the ultimate kids action film.

I prefer the original over the sequels
 
The first Terminator film is so much better than the ones that followed but Terminator 2 is pretty decent.

Terminator oozes and atmosphere that isn't present in Terminator 2 let alone subsequent films.
 
I like the first more then the Terminator 2. Both are great, but the first one is just so damn good. But I admit, I cried when I saw this:

I love both films. As mentioned further up, the first is the better thriller and the second is the better action film.

Both are god tier films though. Terminator 2 and Predator are the best action films ever made.
 
Terminator 1 is good but at times looks incredibly dated. Particularly the bit with his eye and when the terminator (sans artifical skin) is chasing Sarah Connor into that factory.

Terminator 2 is still one of the greatest action movies of all time and some of the effects still hold up today.
 
Terminator 1 is a bleak, nighttime chase through a really iconic 80s cityscape that embodies cyberpunk aesthetics perfectly. The terminator itself is nightmare, a thing that comes slowly for you and won't stop for anything. The movie is beautiful and absolutely haunting.

Terminator 2 is a landmark action movie but it's also a cheerful, light and kid-friendly watering down of the 1st one. I guess it depends on what kind of movies you like, but I personally can't understand how anyone could prefer the sequel.

Put it this way. When they tried to do something ambitious in T1, like with prosthetics etc, it looks crap now.

When they tried to do soemthing ambitious in T2, with the liquid metal stuff, it still looks good. The bit where liquid metal dude slips through the bars in the prison and get's his gun stuck on the other side, still looks good.

While most of the effects in T2 still look good today, the CG where the T-1000 'sucks up' the T-800's shotgun blasts in the mall corridor looks worse than any practical effect in the original movie.

It annoys me that Terminator Genesis is going to be nowhere near the standards of T2. I can tell that already by the casting of Kyle Reese (why cast someone who was a part of the problem in the worst Die Hard?) and using Schwarzenegger as the terminator again when he clearly doesn't have the mobility of the past.

I only saw T1 once, a long time ago, and didn't think much of it, and holy shit are these posts making me want to give it another shot.

I read in Arnold's reddit AMA, that he originally really wanted to the role of Kyle Reese.
After meeting and having lunch with the director one day however, the director was set on Arnold for the terminator and wouldn't budge.
 
Yup, I love The Terminator. Other than some of the special effects, I feel T1 gets a little better every year while T2 gets a little worse. Though I love both movies regardless. A couple of Cameron's many gifts to the world.

Though it would be nice if they would release a bluray with the original mono soundtrack. The updated track changes so many sound effects and screws with the music. At least just give it as an option...
 
Also I think the police station shoot out in T1 is genius.
It's the only time for a brief moment that there is a sense of security. If anywhere you thought you were safe from someone who was trying to murder you, it would be a crowded police station. Then that gets completely turned on its head as the machine comes in gunning everyone down. There's no refuge anywhere.Then the look on Sara's face as she hears gunshots and immediately knows who it is.

i love this scene. no way in hell something like that flies in todays environment. viciously gunning down 30 policemen? good luck getting your movie greenlit
 
Thw writing in the first two movies isn't particularly good, but my goodness the special effects are mind blowing. T2 is still probably the best action movie I've ever seen.

This is why I say nuclear weapons should make a comeback. As a child of the 80s, movies and entertainment just haven't been the same ever since the end of the Cold War and, you know, the end of the whole threat of global nuclear annihilation of the entire human race at a moment's notice. Come on guys, we've got stockpiles of these things just sitting around. Let's just start handing them out to countries, especially those that don't like us. At worst, maybe we'd get another Iron Eagle franchise. At best we'd see sci-fi approaching the Terminator. We didn't blow ourselves up before. What could go wrong?

Tech Noir and the police station are perfect examples of where the first movie excels where the sequel does not. No convoluted scheming or wrought dialogue. Just a relentless, unstoppable killing machine emotionlessly honing in on its target.

The infiltrator future scene is great too.
