Love both movies but Terminator 2 is superior to me. A stellar example of a perfect sequel. It wasn't till TDK that a blockbuster sequel ever hit me like that.

When it finally FINALLY found its footing, it was canceled. Where the story was going was going to be brand new and fresh. But overall, yeah, pretty bad. Skip.
And like any terminator thread, I must point out...Sexy Terminator theme is the best theme.

It's terriblle. Doesn't capture the feel of the movies at all. And Summer Glau (while hot) blows as a Terminator.
Btw for the record... Terminator 2 is the greatest movie of all time. T1 is great too just not as great.
T3 is kinda fun but like the TV show failed to capture the feel of the first two movies. Too much comedy in it imo. Only watched bits of T4 and didn't like it.

Tech Noir and the police station are perfect examples of where the first movie excels where the sequel does not. No convoluted scheming or wrought dialogue. Just a relentless, unstoppable killing machine emotionlessly honing in on its target.
The infiltrator future scene is great too.
I just got done rewatching the police station scene and that is the epitome of the Terminator franchise for me. It really captures the horror of the Terminator in a way that the sequel never does.

If I was SKYNET I would apply infectious diseases onto infiltration units instead of have them burst out firing lasers when they could be taken down by armed resistance troops. You could kill off entire populations of hideouts, and any stragglers might have inadvertently taken it with them to a different resistance camp and your kill count keeps on racking up. The resistance would either be forced to spread out thin to avoid infection or acquire vaccines and other medical resources that would be housed at facilities where you would ambush them.

I also prefer T1, for many reasons, but perhaps first amongst them is that T1 has the best villain in the series, bar none. Arnold is the best evil Terminator, that he's such a substantial threat (and Biehn's great stoic but frightened performance really helps sell it) really makes the whole movie work as well as it does. Also, Arnold's physical performance in T1 is actually really great, his compact, efficient movements make the character seem more dangerous them simply just being a generic, hulking monster that he easily could have been, that its being done by such against type by such a large, imposing man makes his character work even better.

I get what you're saying. But T2 is no where near the levels of dumb that is Aliens.
Yeah, it is. Both are pretty amazing action flicks, but both are pretty dumb too.

i rewatched T1 like 2 months ago and now i feel like rewatching it yet again.
decades ago i was in the camp of T2 > T1 but, since about 6-7 years ago, i prefer T1 over T2. T1 just keeps getting more interesting with time since i notice things i didn't notice before or pay more attention to other details.

I always loved that Arnie walked, ran and generally moved around like a human in T1 whereas in T2 he physically acts like a robot in almost every way.
Surely T1's Terminator is better at its job since it could at least blend in somewhat without giving it away immediately with it's robotic movements.

I too have taken to liking the original Terminator more than the second.
That in no way takes away from the amazing action in T2 though. It is an achievement in its own way.
I still enjoy Aliens a lot. That worked I think because it was a huge departure from the first one, moreso than T2 is from T1 which still has the same skeleton of a plot of 2 units being sent back through time to kill/protect someone.
