Zelda: TP in 1024x768 and perfect anti-aliasing. Posted here on GAF.

:lol :lol :lol

Everybody from MS camp doctors their shots. Conker's L&R - 1280x1024, perfect AA and perfect AF. Posted here on GAF.

Who never doctors shots? Stupid PC games publishers. They don't even turn on AA in the fucking Windows display properties :[

I'd love to see these shots, I, for one, have never seen doctored screenshots from these two developers

and I can't remeber seeing doctored screenshots from Hudson or Altus R&D1 either

The best part about the high-res Zelda TP shots is that they just made the horrible ground textures that much more apparent.

Everyone forget 'Top Gear Rally' on the N64?

I haven't forgotten. I NEVER WILL EITHER.

That hurt me, seriously. The actual game still looked good, but I'll never forget seeing those first screens in Gamefan that looked so damn awesome.

It didn't live up to those shots, but Top Gear was an awesome game. Well, a buggy one, but awesome nonetheless. RIP Boss.

3DO was king of fake screenshots. i forget what game it was, but they sent me a disc of PSDs with layers when i worked at gamers.com in 2000.

Yes, Rare do release higher res shots to showcase the games in more detail, but they're ALWAYS (on their website, at leasT) displayed along with regular res, undoctored screenshots.

3DO is really bad. I've heard stories of them sending PSD files still in layer form, with effects and the UI on seperate layers.

Yup, they did that...you can imagine people had fun moving the explosions around in the screens. :lol :lol :lol

You know the funny thing is that during the N64 days Nintendo ads always had screenshots from really, really early versions of the game. Like you could look at the HUD and see that it was from a totally early build that should not in any way have represented the final product.

It was really weird. Though coming from NOA, perhaps not so much.

My fave has to be the Getaway though. Went from this:

To this:

There's something wrong with that second shot. I mean, the game looks nowhere near as good as those initial shots...but the textures were better than that second shot would lead you to believe. It looks like the PS2 rendering it is broken and unable to properly stream in the building textures...

Look at the difference...

You can see that it hasn't drawn the proper textures in that second shot.

The Getaway and Black Monday both have huge problems keeping up with texture LOD so that screenshot is representative of the game even if the texture would be higher quality a second later.

same with baten kaitos. before the game came out we just saw screens like this:

batenkaitos4.jpg

but it turned out that game actually more looked like this:

Here is one of the first screenshots of PGR3..people can make up their own mind when it comes to it being a photoshop or not.

That's an admited target render (and everyone called it out ages ago with the perfect shadowing on the car and 4:3 aspect ratio plus host of other signs compared to the other real time shots). But No Photoshop involved! :D

This shot was a target render and should never have been released. It shows a city that's not even in the game (Paris). They used during the early development of the game because it was the last one they had worked on for PGR2 and so they had much more reference material.

I don't know if I buy the “it was never to be released” stuff, because the picture did its' job of building hype for the game, and the console…whoever released it knew what they were doing.

Also, your first post bashes COD2, and the title calls it a Photoshop yet what's to say that is not a target render as well?

I just think they (devs that make target renders, or photoshops) are all as guilty as each other, but I can't blame them with most game screens being analyzed to hell and back.

Looking at that screen, no one should be disappointed in the final PGR3 product.

I'm not disappointed but the lighting looks much more realistic in this "target render".

i cant seem to find the Mission Impossible 64 renders anyone got them?

when i first saw those screens i was in AWE. Then when the game came out i couldnt fint it cause it was sold out. I had to go to a friends house to play it ,when i came over to play it my friend had this sad look on his face........ when i saw the game i knew why :lol

True. The lighting may not be that perfect and the crowd is less poly, but other than that it seems to have come through nicely.

Oh shit, I remember that. They featured that game in an old Nintendo Power and it looked amazing (almost last-generation N64 quality, with way better textures). Final product looked like a boiled turd, but it played decent for a few hours.

Oh Mission Impossible 64, i have no idea why but god did i enjoy the game. It also helped developing my snow-fobia, djeez after playing those Goldeneye snow levels and Mi64 snow levels i just dont feel safe in snow-worlds anymore.

Also, i was planning on posting those Spaceworld 2000 tech-demos of Wave-Race, Rogue Leader 2 and Luigis Mansion(and Zelda :p), but those where just as the name said technical-demos right? Or was that their actual goal? Because that shit had me hyped like never before.

Computer graphics, yes, but not pre-rendered, at least not for Zelda. Not sure about the other two. The Baten Kaitos image is from a pre-rendered video in the game, it doesn't use gameply models or environments, and that should be clear enough to any gamer.
