Pimp, in those screenies, i was looking at the faces not the armor. I dont really think the armor in GOW were designed with poly counts in mind. If you look at Hawkprey's other designs he loves armor and shit..Thats his thing. And have you looked at the huge monster with all the organic forms flowing in and out.
MGS4 looks better in motion, anyone who questions is nuts. Im just giving the props more to Konami than ps3 at the moment.

Isn't GoW out in March? And MGS4 most likely in 2007?

Damn, I wonder which one will look better?!?!

What I really want to compare? WarHawk vs. Crimson Skies!! Damn you Microsoft for no CS yet!!

PS3 > 360.

Stop arguing. It will be a year late and it will be more powerful.

Bingo. Everyone knows this. It'll likely be similar to Xbox and PS2. It damn well better be powerful considering it's launching later. Problem is, some people seem to believe that they need to support one or the other and pledge allegiance for some unknown reason.

I think this thread proves that screenshot wars aren't going to cut it next generation. You either play the game, or you shut your mouth about how it looks.

Yeah I don't understand all the hating. I guess its just that there are too many insecure people in this world. People are paranoid of some great looking game on another console, why?:lol

They should be enjoying them all,or as many as they possibly can anyways. It makes you wonder if they've been dropped on their heads.

You know, I always wonder why I never met a MGS fanboys in real life. Because they're all stuck infront of their computers posting on message boards.

If the PS3 comes out a year later than the Xbox 360, I think graphics will be the least of Sony's concerns.

The only worthwhile thing about this thread is seeing Lazy8s mistaken for a Sonybot... Bwaaaaahahaha. :D

I wonder how early Konami received ps3 dev kits. Because i never expected these kind of visuals so soon. Man I wonder how developers felt when they saw the trailer...I know i felt like crap :)

i don't think it's fair to compare a TPS model to a stealth action model (omg sam fisher looks better than master chief !) nor to compare cinematics animation to ingame animation. Snake's rival will be revealed soon enough.

there is a demo video out there with the developer playing right beside it.

Your point? Theyre both realtime. Neither is gameplay. Case closed.

Unless you're arguing that MGS wasnt realtime, in that case you're on your own.

that particular screen that mr.bob posted is from a cutscene.

who's Mr Bob? I'm just wondering why people are so fired up about cutscenes?

You know what's even more pressing is why didn't they show some actual gameplay footage of MGS4. I mean even 30sec of it would be good. Why is it that every time a MGS game gets released, all we see is cutscenes?

I'd love to hear reactions to those in the industry after seeing the MGS4 trailer.

MGS4 stands apart from every game out there because the location doesn't feel like just a set piece. The whole world feels alive. You feel like you are there. Gears of War looks fantastic. But it seems like an action movie set piece in motion. Metal Gear Solid 4 in motion makes you feel like you are there. Like you are in a real location. It raised the bar for everything next gen. Seeing how nice Gears of War looks, I'm thinking Kojima Productions could have done something similar on Xbox 360.

Splinter Cell 4 X360 unveiling soon? Nice. :)

The Xbox was in no way able to handle MGS2 like the PS2. The Xbox version destroyed the cohesiveness of the aesthetic by natively outputting 640x480 every 60th of a second instead of the natural blend that was achieved at PS2's 640x224 @60hz output.

Are you a joke character? I mean atleast the other idiot fanboys have to usually be provoked before they start insulting people.

They dont need to show fucking gameplay. The game is not coming out for at least a year. It was a teaser. That's all. And its more than most people expected.

The problem is, what's setting it apart, or what the claimed technical focus of the game is, plays up to a particular strength of PS3 IMO. Now, to be careful here, I'm not saying what Kojima will be doing necessarily will make replication on X360 difficult, or that what we've seen thusfar is such, but simply that I think the technical potential is there so that it could if they really pushed things. Given their track record, I think it's more than possible. Over PS3's lifetime, I think it will happen, be it with MGS4 or not (and that's possibly a very conservative statement if differences in middleware appear which could and would manifest differences across more games much sooner..).

Both games look about the same. How can you say MGS4 looks better in motion when all you've seen is the trailer? Idiots.

I'm sorry if that sounded provocative, but I've never met a person that liked MGS and most of my friends are hardcore gamers too. If you really want to count, there's at least a 1/150 chance of meeting a MGS fan.

The difference here, is the animation. GoW needs SERIOUS work on the animation. Graphics are only a piece of the puzzle - and MS has totally neglected the other factors like physics and animation with the design of their console.

It is the Cell and BRD with 3X the capacity that will win this for Sony. Storage is going to be a HUGE disadvantage for the 360, as well as physics and animation.

But yes, GoW looks good. Imagine how MGS4 would look if Kojima actually wanted to concentrate on graphics as opposed to the physics and animation.

This is going in the running for dumbest post of TGS week. You've got a lot of competition, but you might pull it out.

I doubt GoW has the same detail as MGS4 shows up close.. Snakes skin, the dust on his face, sweat.. the detail on his gloves, suit etc.

MGS4 by far. :)

MS neglected animation with the design of their console? What does that even mean? And have you seen Ghost Recon: AW?

You weren't. You were trolling. Didn't I read somewhere here that you're an anti-MGS twit from Gamefaqs? You haven't disappointed.

What the bloody hell are you talking about? What does the animation in GOW have to do with the specs of the 360? Do you fucks even think before you say things like this?

Oh dear

This board needs a "Block thread" button.

That quote wasn't by trmas. It was by Confidence Man.

Edit: I stand corrected. It was from trmas.

how can anyone say theres a clear winner after seeing this.. lol

they are both pretty much great

this post works against its own title

Well, this *is* GAF, Where remembering one lone trolling retard is a bit like seaching for a specific piece of hay in a haystack.

Exactly. Animation is about storage space, which MS didn't account for. They were SO hell-bent to release early that they have nothing to combat BRD from a STORAGE standpoint.

Looking at the initial comparisn image I found GOW actually looked better , but again that's just a screenshot . IF you want to get all anal and analyze the shit out of the images then the snake character model looks better then the GOW soldier but if you compare the backgrounds you'll note that the MGS4 screenshot seems to utilize alot of textures but no special effects on top while GOW uses normal mapping all over the place.

Sure in motion MGS4 looks better but again, even though the trailer was realtime it was lacking actaul gameplay and while I'm sure the game will look like that when finished it can't be stressed enough that this happened before. Recall the MGS2 trailers over a year and a half a great demo and then a dissapointing peice of shit game in the end. It looked nice , made me and many others buy a ps2 but in the end it made me hate the franchise. The 3rd one brought back some love for the franchise and the 4th shoudl be cool but still. Declaring the console war over when almost none of us have played finished games for either piece of hardware and PS3 games still have atleast 6 months of development time left seems a little aimless. You want a next gen system that can push out good visuals this november get the 360, it will surely match the PS3 in nearly every way in years to come much like the PS2 arguably matches the xbox in most ways.

The X360 isn't powerful enough to anti-alias games which use next generation effects like HDR lighting. Even if a multiplatform port of a Sonic or Resident Evil game which had graphics with rich, overblown skyscapes from HDR was otherwise identical between the two consoles, the PS3 version would do multisampling at 4x while the X360 version would be left more jagged.
Uh... The console with "almost free AA" is Xbox360, not PS3.

Man

Twixdawg, lets start our own website. A blog where we talk about video games. It will be like the video game blog version of the odd couple.
