About the show:

Waking up in an empty hospital after weeks in a coma, County Sheriff Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) finds himself utterly alone. The world as he knows it is gone, ravaged by a zombie epidemic. The Walking Dead tells the story of the weeks and months that follow after the apocalypse. Based on Robert Kirkman’s hugely successful and popular comic book series, AMC’s new original series, The Walking Dead, premieres with a 90-minute episode on Halloween night: Oct. 31 at 10/9c. Written and executive produced by three-time Academy® Award-nominee Frank Darabont (The Shawshank Redemption, The Green Mile), who also directs the pilot, and executive produced by Gale Anne Hurd (The Terminator, Aliens), the series debuts during AMC Fearfest, the network's annual blockbuster marathon of thriller and horror films.

The Walking Dead is an epic, edge-of-your-seat drama where personal struggles are magnified against a backdrop of moment-to-moment survival. A survivalist story at its core, the series explores how the living are changed by the overwhelming realization that those who survive can be far more dangerous that the mindless walkers roaming the earth. They themselves have become the walking dead.

Shot on location in Atlanta, The Walking Dead is led by a cast that includes Lincoln (Teachers, Love Actually) as Rick Grimes, Jon Bernthal (The Pacific, The Ghost Writer) as Shane Walsh, Sarah Wayne Callies (Prison Break) as Lori Grimes, Laurie Holden (The Shield, Stephen King’s The Mist) as Andrea, Jeffrey DeMunn (Stephen King’s The Mist, The Green Mile) as Dale, Steven Yeun (The Big Bang Theory) as Glen, Emma Bell (The Bedford Diaries) as Amy and Chandler Riggs (Get Low) as Carl Grimes.

Joining Darabont and Hurd as executive producers are Kirkman; David Alpert from Circle of Confusion; and Charles “Chic” Eglee (Dexter, The Shield). Jack LoGiudice (Sons of Anarchy, Resurrection Blvd) serves as co-executive producer with Denise Huth (Stephen King’s The Mist) as producer. The Walking Dead was written by Darabont, Eglee, LoGiudice, Kirkman, Glen Mazzara and Adam E. Fierro. In addition to Darabont, directors for the series include Michelle MacLaren, Gwyneth Horder Payton, Johan Renck, Ernest Dickerson and Guy Ferland.

The creative team also includes Directors of Photography David Tattersall and David Boyd, Production Designers Greg Melton and Alex Hadju, Costume Designer Peggy Stamper, and Editors Hunter M. Via, Julius Ramsay and Sidney Wolinsky. The effects team includes veteran special effects makeup designer Greg Nicotero, special effects coordinator Darrell Pritchett, and visual effects supervisor Sam Nicholson.

Walking Dead Comic Book thread

Follow the announcement, casting, EVERYTHING in the GAF Walking Dead thread

Edit: Alright, from now on, if you want to discuss major point from the comic, just mark that please. IE

COMIC BOOK SPOILER
blah blah blah
. It's just courtesy.

Haven't read a single comic in anticipation of freshness. (Just like I did for Sin City)

Can't wait to see what Darabont and his crew produce, a very talented and enthusiastic creative talent from what I can glean from interviews. :D

VERY EXCITED.

Anyone looking to pick up the comics should get these, in this order (cheapest solution as well).

The Walking Dead: Compendium One-$37.79

The Walking Dead Book 5-$23.09

The Walking Dead Book 6-$23.09

If you get those, you'll only be like 5/6 issues behind.

Hey, maybe you should throw in a link to my half forgotten Walking Dead (comics) thread in the OP? Don't know if it's of interest to everyone, but maybe someone who starts reading the comic might find a place to discuss it. Obviously, that thread contains spoilers.

I kind of miss the Cornballer Sundays on AMC thread title format already. I guess it says something about the built in fan base for this series on gaf already that he didn't have to start the thread. good stuff gdt

When is BB going to come out of TV thread retirement?

AMC's doing some marketing for the show with their "Spread the Dead" competition:
Of course, you're excited about The Walking Dead premiere on Sun., Oct. 31 at 10/9c. And of course, you'd like to win $5,000. Now it's time to combine your two interests by taking your excitement (and your desire for five grand) with AMC's Spread The Dead contest. The way it works is simple:

1. Log on to Spread The Dead and create an account.

2. Take the Spread The Dead URL you'll be provided afterward and share with friends and family via Facebook, Twitter and Email.

3. Each person who clicks your URL earns you another chance at the Grand Prize of $5,000 and two First Prizes of $2,500. In addition, the 15 top point-earners will receive The Walking Dead prize packs. (Contest closes Fri., Nov. 19 at 11:59PM | 10:59C.) Ready to get started?

Quick question for mods/OP can we talk about the comic in this thread (if it ever comes up) as long as the discussion remains spoiler tagged or should we take the conversation to the comic thread only?

Can't speak for the OP or mods but personally I assume there's gonna be discussions about the comic in this thread as well, considering it is indeed quite relevant to the series. That being said, if you want to discuss the comics specifically and how it evolves from issue to issue, then maybe head on to the comics thread? It could use a boost once in a while!

If this isn't cool, just let me know.

I saw the first episode, and it's GREAT. Probably one of the best pilots ever (like Mad Men and Breaking Bad).

Totally like TWD, but a bit..fuller? Pace was slowed down from the comic, so we got alot of good stuff that is totally new, but fits really well.

The music was FANTASTIC. Very minimal (like it should be) but used very well in places. Andrew Lincoln is doing an awesome job as Rick, and so is everyone else. Extremely well directed, and it looks great. Faded colors and alot of grey. Couldn't tell perfectly, but nice amount of grain too.

ACTUAL REAL SPOILERS
I liked pretty much all of the (minor) changes.

-Rick and Lori having problems before the Zombies is a great way to add way to everything that happens with Shane (as we see in the episode, they are much closer than they were at this point in the comic).

-Morgan coming to Atlanta just a bit after Rick sounds good too.

-Absolutely fantastic opening scene.

-Riveting climax at the end. Dear god, that was fucking tense.

-PERFECT cliffhanger (if you would call it that).
Absolutely CAN'T WAIT to see more. We're off to an incredible start.

This seems like a reasonable approach to it.

Talking about the comics should be tagged. The show is different...but the same, and we'll probably discuss stuff like changes, what happens next, etc. But all comic talk should be tagged.

It's also fine to just bump the comic thread, but there TV talk should be tagged.

Lori looks meh. :/

Love the rest of the cast.

It's funny, since I started reading the comics some years ago I've always felt and said it would make a great TV-series. I'm stoked as hell for it too, but with all the praise it's getting I'm starting to worry that I'm gonna dislike it :lol

Hyyyppppeeee

So pumped for this. I was watching the AMC movie marathon the other night and that following night I had a dream similar to what the trailer shows us. I was pumped. I can't wait.

Uverse doesn't get AMC HD? I'm going to switch to them from Comcast in December. Didn't realize they didn't carry it.

I'm so excited for this. Is there any legal way to watch AMC shows after they air?

AMC usually streams the first episode of the season in the usual places (Hulu, etc), but that's it.

I believe they stream them on thier website too.
I'll probably catch the premiere that way since I'll probably be at a Halloween party.
