Darabont is such an inconsistent director. He is capable of great things, like Shawshank but then he directs stuff like The Mist, which looks like a made for TV movie.

I think you're in the minority with your opinion of The Mist. I thought it was a well directed movie and very entertaining. Critics seem to agree. If you had used The Majestic as an example I would have agreed. But overall, he has done some great work.

Now, you could say that it's a homage, but then that would mean that 28 days later was created before the comic book.

Actually I thought the SFX were horrid, but the movie was awesome. ( I do like depressing things though...)

As a concern, how in the hell are they going to show some of the later events of the comic book on TV?
 
Kirkman always had the idea of starting in an abandoned hospital, but both scenes from 28 Days Later and The Walking Dead were also a hommage to an old book or series I believe.

Day of the Triffids.

The main character is in a hospital after eye surgery and his eyes were bandaged preventing him from seeing a meteor shower that blinds nearly everybody in the world. He wakes up to find the world has broken down and he's one of the few people who can see.

Nope, AMC is a basic cable channel. No nudity, but tons of gore. (America, F Yeah)

It's very, very gory, but no nudity (aside from maybe some ass). No Fuck, but Shit is allowed.



Also, how are you not familiar with AMC at this point?

The Mist convinced me Darabont is perfect for The Walking Dead. Seriously.

The Pilot is soo good. Can't wait to see some of the crazy stuff coming down the pipe.
 
The pilot is kind of amazing. Everyone should be stoked for this because it is fucking good. I've never read the comic so I can't comment on it from that angle but as someone new to the series, I was very, very impressed.
 
There's only one nitpick I have about the first episode, and it's pretty small.

SPOILERS

I don't know if I liked when Rick was crying and yelling when he found his empty house. I don't think the Rick we know (at least in the comic) would do that.

I could accept his yelling or quiet crying, but I don't know about both.

Yeah, it's not a big deal at all, but it did stand out to me a bit.
 
The pilot gave me the same depressed but oh so awesome feeling I got reading the comics. A good sign.

I liked it actually, but its been so long since I read the first issue so I never noticed.
 
the only thing which annoyed me was that they didnt use a real m1a1 abrams. it looked like a heavily remodeled m60 patton.

ps. i think i saw whitta :P

Yep, the hospital scene in 28 Days Later was a homage to a movie from 1962 called Invasion of the Triffids.

the black guy and his son
again? That was some sterling acting from Lennie James.
I wish they didn't go their separate ways.
Or was the character not even in the comics? I think I read there's a whole load of new characters created for the show.

Pilot was awesome, btw. One of the best I've seen. And the 3 week wait for episode 2 begins.

Well, I mean, the comic is super gory as well. But only when, you know, you run into zombies or it's portraying violence.

I don't really get what you're trying to say.
