THE WALKING DEAD: Season 1 on AMC (avoid comic book spoilers)

I was very happy with the pilot. The production values were top notch and it was fun to already see
the differences between the zombie types. (Like the plodders to the somewhat-intact ones like in Atlanta that half-ran after Rick.)

Something that I thought had fun foreshadowing hasn't been touched on yet, at least I don't think so.
When Rick, Morgan, and Duane were in the police station getting guns, I thought it was a neat passing remark that Rick made to Duane. He said something along the lines of making sure that you only point your gun at someone if you intend on using it. Knowing Rick's history in the comics I thought that was kinda neat.

One of the better pilots I've seen. Really liked it. I found other new shows quite disappointing so I'm glad this seems awesome.

Couldn't resist, watched it twice last night....

Utterly so awesome!!! the music is sparse, but hits the right notes for sure. Feels like this should be playing in the theatre.

I just hope the early leak wont hurt it. I for sure will be watching it, and Im having my mom watch it on her tv too. So even though i saw it early, theyll get my viewing and one other person.

That would be Bear McCreary :D Knew the show would be even better than anticipated when he was hired to be the musical composer for the show.

It doesn't matter if you're not a nielsen rated household. Watch it streamed or buy it on itunes if you really want to support it.

Ratings don't really matter that much to AMC. Check Mad Men's S1 ratings.

This is one of least favorite talking points ever. Ratings/carriage fees are all that matter to ad supported cable networks. AMC is no different. It should be completely obvious why their standard for ratings were lower when the first season of Mad Men aired. They hadn't made a name for themselves in scripted drama yet. And you don't make a name for yourself by canceling your first attempt when it doesn't immediately light up the charts.

Walking Dead should be able to easily outpace Rubicon in the ratings, though a test pattern probably could as well, so it will almost certainly get a second season pickup.

No thanks to iTunes but if I can get it on Amazon I might do it this way since I don't have cable. I want to support it.

I'm pretty sure Amazon does Mad Men, so I'd say you'll be good.

Do you sit around control-f-ing "ratings" all day? Holy fucking shit.

Man, I can't wait to watch this in HD. It just looked awesome.
the effects were pretty great.
I wonder how they filmed the scenes of the woman without her torso. Amputee? Or did they have to dig her a hole each time?

Epic thread gdt5016, thanks for making it. It really is going to be utterly fantastic when it finally, erm, airs.

My friend has read the comics and she told me to avoid them, so I hope we can keep comic comments in spoiler tags (so far it's been OK but who knows).

The Big Rig, I'm thinking CG, the entrails were really, erm, shiny for me. But who knows in the quality that most of us likely watched it at...

I hope all of you that watched the pilot early are still going to take the time to catch the show live on Halloween or perhaps a replay a little later. If you guys like it a lot, make sure you tell your friends and stream it if you can't watch on AMC. Let's get some good ratings in for the premiere so AMC quickly orders up S2. :D

I know I will but I thought the rating system only measured the data from those households with the special TV's and what not fancy systems?

Love the books but something about the show doesn't look right... Almost looks too clean, and bright I guess... I don't really know how to put it.

So, is this going to be TV-14 or TV-MA? Just curious. Watching either way, of course, it looks great. :lol

LOL. Its a very hard TV-MA, im actually surprised on how much gore is in it.

That's the best part! By far! It's not "stylized" (like, say, 28 Days Later). It's attempting to be realistic and not overplay the grit.

I also would second the iTunes suggestion.

One of the guys that I met from my classes at Second City this summer just told me yesterday that he's good friends with the guy that's playing Glenn in the show. They used to work together in one of the bigger improv groups up here in Chicago.

Just finished the first hardcover. Issues 1-12. Now officially prepped for this show. Not going to watch the leaked pilot.

AMC has *really* been promoting the shit out of it. Although maybe it just seems that way since the TV has been on AMC non-stop ever since fear fest started. Wife is a big horror movie fan...

Why are they premiering it on Halloween? Anyone with any kind of life won't be at home watching TV.
On Sunday at 10? Saturday maybe, but this is what I'll watch before bedtime then I'll get up for work in the morning...

Yes, those of us with lives AND jobs will be home. Maybe you're just one of the cool cats that takes the day after Halloween off from work.

Awesome. I'll definitely be doing that then. I just checked to see if they had some kind of pre-listings up but they don't yet. I'll get it as soon as I can though. Heck if they have it on Zune I'll buy it there if I have to.

I agree. Most of the shows I watch are airing new eps this Sunday. I think a lot of people will be having Halloween parties on Saturday this year.

still can't believe they shot this is Atlanta and I didn't know about it.

Whoever did the costume/makeup and all that stuff for this series did a really really amazing job.
I've seen 2 scenes being shot in Atlanta and I'm just now finding out that this is what they were shooting. 1 scene was shot
by the Underground Parking (Nightclub area) at night D:
. I've never read the graphic novel or even heard about it but BrLvgThrChmstry just tipped me off about this show and I downloaded the episode and watched it straight away. I'm so glad I did. The whole ending part was like D: for me. Cant wait for the rest of this!

I'll just go out Saturday when all the real parties are happening then spend all Sunday recovering. Ever since my little bout with alcohol poisoning my hangovers tend to last a day or two.

Doesn't this mean that the second season is basically 100% confirmed? Didn't they already film all of season 1?

There's most likely a disclaimer around there saying "only if a season two is ordered" or something similar.

Yes, filming is done, but they're doing post for episode 6 right now.

amaaaaaaaaazing episode and I think I've passed the street that they shot a scene on in Atlanta :lol

Definitely will rewatch with surround sound again on Halloween.

anybody else see Whitta during the tank scene

Most people are going to party on Friday and Saturday..

in any case, I've managed to talk most of my Lost watch party group into coming over for the premier.

Damn that was great. The way they handled the
bike corpse
was just brilliant, and the music is very, very promising, as is the main guy actor.

Getting really good vibes here!

By the way, was that a zombie Brad Dourif in the Atlanta crowd? The one they kept focusing on?
