watching the re-run now.

from the conversation, i think his buddy been fucking his wife long even before the zombie outbreeak

Phenomenal. Gritty, extremely graphic with awesome attention to detail. Loved how the world tells so much of the story. I'm a big Lenny James fan, he's great in every role he plays--glad he's apart of this. You don't fuck with "Robert Hawkins", you'll find that out if you haven't already. Granted I'm not familiar with the comicsl, but this is pretty much exactly what I wanted: a morbidly realistic take on the Zombie Apocalypse, with the focus on the characters and the world around them.

loved it so much I'm watching it again.

3) Yeah, the cops were awful at the beginning. That was the intention. Did people not understand those cops were bad when one of them forgot to load his gun before facing armed criminals?

But all cops in tv shows are perfect professionals except during season finales when they have to make a mistake and then break down and start weeping in their partner's arms. Do you mean to tell me that not all cops are good at their job? I just find that a bit far-fetched.

Also, who saw Gary Whitta Gary Whitta Gary Whitta Gary Whitta? I didn't notice him my first viewing, but I looked for him this time and saw him in his pjs.

So, Morgan. COMIC BOOK SPOILERS
I kinda didn't like what happened to him in the comics. He was cool, then gone for 70 issues, and when he came back his son was dead. I hope he features more early on with his son. Then they can kill his son off later, but it would have more weight instead of "oh yeah remember this guy? His son's dead now lets move on"
Actually.....
According to the producers, he's gonna be living much longer than his comic counter-part.
Kinda wish I didn't read this. Oh well.

I figured the Military would have better soundproofing in the tanks.
*shrug* Guess not.

Atlanta = GA = SE US. GA rural area at the start/after cold-open.
It wouldn't matter about the soundproofing. Firing a .357 magnum or .44 magnum, whichever he had, would absolutely shatter your hearing in an enclosed space like that. I hate shooting my .45 without ear protection, its so loud. I can only imagine how devastatingly loud a magnum would be in that scenario, without any ear protection. That tank scene was my favorite just because of that.

Badass show, can't wait to see the next episode.

Only read a few of the comics, but hopefully that black dude and his son make it back into the show. He was a good actor.

Yeah, he made that scene where he tries to shoot his wife. I've never read the comics, but I'll be sad if we never see him again. Lennie James was spectacular.

He's the same dude from Jericho too (Nuclear Post Apocalyptic show that only went two seasons). I really need to finish that show.

That was really great. I had high hopes and was glad I wasn't disappointed. Can't wait for the next episode.

Anyone else think they should've kept the pilot to an hour? I feel like they needed to give the audience more time to absorb that scene of the half zombie in the park. Awesome pilot regardless. I hope they do
revisit Morgan and Duane even though they're not going to be part of Rick's story anymore.

I'm getting that impression too. It would explain why
his relationship with Lori
was revealed so soon.
CBSpoiler
are you saying they won't revisit Morgan and Duane because it's not in the comics that way? Because they're not going to follow the comics exactly.
Also, if they do
Have Morgan on again soon, do you think they'll still introduce Tyreese? All three men are sort of variations on the same "strong and rational, makes tough decisions leader." Having two in the comics was already a lot, 3 might not work.

liked the music (except for that "space junk" piece at the end wtf) and general look of it.

that song blew donkeys and was totally inappropriate

other than that, an excellent pilot

only uphill from here

I have no idea how AMC is pulling it off. The wizard in charge is grossly underpaid.

box quote

The first kill was the perfect message to demonstrate just how far the show is going to go.

Time to find out about, Forbrydelsen.

Glad every is digging in (this thread is pretty big!), I'm watching it tomorrow with my brother (I've already seen the leak, though).

Amazingly good first episode, especially considering this was by far my least favorite part of the comics.. this is the cliched shit that you see in zombie movies.. if they handle this part this well, I can't wait to get to the good stuff.

Really, I can't wait to get to season 3 assuming they stay at 1 trade paper = 1 season clip.

Yeah I agree, I thought they would just show the gun firing or something, I'm glad they're not pulling any punches here.

Also the camera work during the sniping sequence was great. I loved the scoping-up effect.

Amazing.

My girlfriend was pissed at me for making her watch it because she hates gore and horror, but was so intrigued by the story that she couldn't stop watching. :lol

Just started watching the rerun because of the World Series. I have read a tiny bit of the comics, so most of this is pretty blind. I like the ambient noise so far.
He is just leaving the hospital.

I put it in both ways.
Just like I did with you last night. :o

Ah, well, I learned something new today: Firing a gun in a tank is a stupid idea. :lol

Was zombie torso CG or makeup or what? I couldn't tell. The movement seemed to good for CG, but I don't see how they could have fit a real person in that head/shoulder close-up shot.

Shit was WAY too intense. I had to take a 20 minute break to build up fast forward room.

:lol :lol

DAMN ALL OF YOU WHO WATchED THE FIRST EPISODE!

I envy all GAF who saw the first episode. I've been waiting for it for weeks!, but i'm currently working so i wasn't able to watch it, but i'm currently reading the comic, and i hope i can watch it later this week.

I wasn't implying they should rewrite Morgan and Duane back in just so they would travel with Rick. I just don't know how they're going to "conclude" their story when they have to focus on Rick. What's most ideal is that maybe they'll write a whole filler arc for Morgan and Duane alone.

I hope there's a point in this series where they have to traverse through a long darkened car tunnel with a pileup on both sides. Basically pull from The Stand.

I'm thinking animatronic maybe?

OMG I loved it. Loved it.

The makeup was freaking amazing on some of these walking corpses. And Bear McCreary came in swinging with the music when that Black Guy (sorry, not familiar with any names at the moment other than Frank) was sniping.

Soooooo awesome! I can't wait for the new episodes now, especially to see what Darabont has added in terms of new stuff.

This.

The corpses looked more realistic and creepy than 90% of zombie movies. Was really impressed by the effects work.

What the hell is that new show The Killing about?
According to wikipedia, it's about a woman whose young daughter is raped and killed just as the woman is about to retire from her cop job or whatever. With the murder of her daughter, she, with her partner, begins to pursue the killer. Also, there are some links back to a strong political figure, but is he really involved?
It immediately made me think of Twin Peaks, and then I read the synopsis and saw that it's set in Seattle, not too far from Twin Peaks, Washington. I doubt there will be any similarities, but if there's anyone who's seen the original Dutch miniseries of The Killing, tell us. :D

I liked all of the first two paperbacks, though. :P I did love the stuff past that with the CBSpoiler
prison___
, but I'm still going to love the first part.
Also, I remember reading that CBspoiler
the first season would end with them finding the prison. Don't know for sure though.

Ah I see. I want this too.

I'm trying to get my hopes down for the second episode. I don't feel like I need to spoiler this because it's been all over but I will anyway: it's called Guts and
it's supposed to be mostly zombie stuff and fighting. Not as much character development or atmosphere.

Could the torso zombie have been done the same way they did Lt. Dan in Forrest Gump? Just have a person wear like, blue sweatpants?

Actually, Darabont said we'll reach the COMIC BOOK SPOILER
prison around the end of S2.

Six 1 hour episodes? or Six 90 minute episodes? Either way, first episode was great.
This one was 90, next 5 are 1hour.
