I don't think I was supposed to laugh at that part, but I did. HARD.
It was a pretty cheap move. They should have just simply had him see the opening, not have him contemplate suicide in a lame way.

This.

The corpses looked more realistic and creepy than 90% of zombie movies. Was really impressed by the effects work.
Yeah. The only silly thing was at the end when they were digging through the Horse. It was very obvious that none of those folks were attempting to eat that shit at all, they were just passing it along.

I kept asking myself "how the hell do you die in a tank?" I mean yea he must have got bitten outside and jumped in but if I seen zombies and stuff my ass would never have left that tank in the first place :lol

Major, MAJOR COMIC BOOK SPOILERS

We find out a bit later in the book, that you can die a non zombie related death and still turn into a zombie. Whatever it is, EVERYONE is infected. So that scene makes sense (he could've died of hunger, for instance), relative to the rules in this universe.

Fantastic pilot and the preview for the rest of the season looks great as well. Hard to believe that this is on a TV budget, the zombies and cinematography looked incredible.

I really wanna read the comics now but I kind of like having no idea about what'll happen next.

Yeah I thought so too. But the rest of the makeup was fantastic. I think they have one of the best makeup artists in the business doing it, forget the name right now but I saw it in a making-of video.

Yeah it was probably a dumb move :lol Still, the guy was a soldier, so he probably got out to try and help people. That didn't work out.

Has there been any word on the per-episode production cost of this show?

In terms of casting, they're definitely taking a Mad Men-style approach - talented but relatively obscure actors who don't cost a lot of dough. Well, initially, at least.

You haven't read the comics, I can tell. I want you to revisit this statement when they reveal more of the disease.

Lennie James said that it takes a while for people to die after they're bitten. Is there more to it than that?

Yea I know, I read and continue to read the comic, I just didn't think of the hunger death which would have made sense but I think he had wounds on his face, anyway I am just nitpicking and thinking about stuff I would have done in his position.

The answer to this question is a spoiler, and saying that can even be considered a spoiler. All I'm going to say is that it makes perfect sense that that man could have been bitten and then gotten in the tank. If you want the spoilers, scroll up to where gdt posted MAJOR COMIC BOOK SPOILERS.

The episode-in-review clip or whatever was cool. Lincoln really gets the show he's in, it seems.
The sneak peek had
so many new characters. Andrea seemed alright. She was the only one I recognized. Other than Glenn.

I guess I'm the only one but I loved the psych out suicide part. Through me for a loop. This show kicks ten kinds of asses.

edit: plus did I see the dude from Boondock Saints? Holy shit

I feel like we almost need three threads for this show.

-One for those of us who haven't read the comics.
-One for those who have.
-And one for those who haven't read the comics but want to ask questions to those who have.

Obviously, that's not practical, but handling spoilers for this is going to be very tricky.

Fantastic first episode.

According to the producers, he's gonna be living much longer than his comic counter-part.
If true I think that would be a HUGE mistake.

Saw this earlier, but had company so couldn't post. Fucking EPIC. I can't wait for more. :D

I saw this right after Dawn of the Dead (2004), pretty good intro lol.

I'm still confused as to why zombies could climb stairs and turn door knobs, that shit's not right!

And I'm with Bertram on this one. It's going to be a bitch having people that have read the comics. Like the old Naruto threads.

Wow I love this ambient music going on right now.
Dad is looking through photos of his wife, Sheriff is walking through the field.
Freaking great.

Morgan and Duane are kind of like Michael and Walt.

Only not fucking retarded.
this is actually true :lol :lol :lol

Yeah the comics thing is hard to deal with. And I wish I just couldn't talk about them, but it's hard not to think about the source material when watching this.

absolutely loved it! The feel, the makeup, the characters it was all done really well. My only tiny gripe is the CGI I just can't stand it.

Target Practice

I guess they didn't want to slow him down while they got better at shooting.

Plus the dad had some unfinished business with his wife.

Because they didn't know what the situation would be in Atlanta, and they're doing fine at their house right now. They'll contact each other on the radio soon, I'm sure.
Oh, and the target practice.

Please, do not spoiler tag already aired material. That just makes all the tags (more) confusing.

This is my first time watching it, so I'm just covering my bases in case anyone tries to say something that happens later on.

Oh and I have a question.

What was with the zombie he tracked down and killed in that field? Did I miss something?

She was in the beginning of the episode. Yeah, you might've missed something.

It was the first one he encountered. He felt pity for it.

legless thing was helpless. just putting it out of it's misery. dead or living he felt it was for the best.

Loved the first episode. Really enjoyed the music that was used in the show.

Only thing I didn't like and made me wince (instead of a horrific zombie moment) was the sappy cafe singer acoustic shit that played at the end and they focus on the poor horse's guts getting pulled out.

goddam, this episode almost had me tearing up. I almost prefer the show over the comic book. The slow pace is actually good, even for someone who has read through all the comics.

Zombies aren't a problem, FAST zombies are. Those fuckers are not cool.

I've always found slow Romero zombies scarier. Runners are too quick to be creepy; they may as well be pissed off living people.

Which is why I wished they ended the pilot there. Give us enough time to absorb that wonderful scene.

Fuck I even got my Mom to watch this tonight. She was like zomg that was freaky, and said she wasn't sure if she was gonna make it cause the opening scene was rather gory for her. She did say well I made it, and dang now I have to watch the next episode cause I'm hooked now. Gotta see if he makes it out of the tank! :lol

PS: Do we know if this is gonna end up online anywhere to watch at least temporarily?

I wouldn't be surprised if AMC put it up on their website for streaming tomorrow since they've done that for premiere episodes in the past.
