THE WALKING DEAD: Season 1 on AMC (avoid comic book spoilers)

I love the comic, and I actually think I may end up liking this more. Everything they added in to extend the story was actually really enjoyable and it never felt like "here comes the filler!".

Just watched the first episode, and it exceeded all expectations I had for the series. It was incredibly intense, still violent, and still had a story. I cannot wait for Sunday!

I loved the fan made opening, but it doesn't fit the tone of this take on TWD. Still, an awesome video.
ITA.

Perhaps it would work if The Walking Dead were taking a True Blood-style approach, but it clearly does not work with this show. And from everything I've read, the show and the comic are going to be two entirely different beasts, so I don't think using the comic book in the opening sequence is appropriate.

That said, it is an impressive piece of graphic design and animation. No doubt about that.

that's exactly what i was thinking

Interesting. I've been looking into the hardcover comic compilation books on amazon. If the show is going a different path than the comics then it might be alright to check out the comics too.

He meant different beasts in the tone. And while I agree that they are different so far, they're similar, and the stories are still very close. So if you want to be surprised by the show, don't read the comics.

No animals were hurt in the filming of this show.
daww

I went through the last few pages and haven't been seeing much discussion on the ratings, but apparently the pilot got TRIPLE the highest rated ever episodes of Mad Men, Breaking Bad and Dexter.

Something like that. And yeah, we talked about the ratings quite a bit.

Finally watched it, and I have to say that it definitely surpassed my expectations. By far.

Very suspenseful, very good. Looks like AMC has another hit on their hands.

Hells fuckin yeah!

I thought the same thing.

I'm glad someone finally showed that zombies dont just eat people, they eat anything they can get their hands on. Too many movies (and games) these days make it like zombies only go after people.

It was OK, thought it would be darker though. I was hoping for an overwhelming sense of dread and a bit more suspense. I guess i was expecting more drawn out horror than drama with zombies.

COMIC BOOK SPOILERS
It gets pretty fucking dark. Like, choosing whether people live or die, even children. Extensive torture. Et cetera.

Its because people are ok with people getting eaten, but bring out a animal and stop the presses and get ready for a uproar.

That's good to hear then, in terms of the show of course.:D

Probably because the horse didn't volunteer to be used as a vehicle to gain entry into a zombie infested city.

Yeah, if the show follows the comic's story progression, get ready for some fucked up shit.

I just reached the
cannibal hunter dudes. Had the potential to get pretty fucked up. Carl wasting the other kid was intense, too.

It was good. I enjoyed it. The part where he and the horse are trotting through the streets and nearly turn into a gigantic zombie horde made me gasp audibly; despite seeing numerous commercials, they still got me.

Seems like this show is tailor-made for me; I love incredibly dark material. I often think it's unrealistic
that kids or animals never die random brutal deaths,
so I'm glad to hear that this show will embrace its ability to push the audience to its limits.

I'm pissed that the characters won't be saying "FUCK." The comic book has plenty of the word "FUCK."

They could run with some Hardy Boys dependables. Great Snakes, Jeepers, Criminy etc...

They've dropped the F-bomb a couple of times on Mad Men, but bleeped out.

But yeah, it's not going to show up much. Not a huge loss, IMO. I've never found excessive use of profanity to be indicative of quality writing. Sopranos is probably one exception. It's hard to imagine mob types not swearing up a storm.

I loved it personally. Had a really cool vibe. Anyone know the cheapest site to pick up the comics in one book?

Amazon.

And yeah, this show will get to be relentlessly depressing. A common complaint about the book is that there's never any hope and relief :lol .

Well that should be expected when reading about the zombie apocalypse :lol

In the comic, are zombies slow or fast or mixed?

Mostly slow. They fastest they've ever gotten was what we saw at the end of the first episode. That's called a "herd" in the book. Can't wait to see one again.

Slow enough that most people can just run away from them. However when they get close to someone they can lunge at them for a little burst of speed.

Couple of questions! Is Gary Whitta clearly visible in this episode, or in any of the upcoming ones? :) Also, does anything happen to the crows that eat the zombie flesh? Seems like a pretty bad idea, in general.

Finally Watched this last night, and after months of hype, I feel like it paid off.

I have a huge affinity to Zombie films..so this show feels like it was made for me.

I like that the pilot didn't spend a lot of the time on the how and why, and instead focused on the characters emotions towards the world around them.

If this show keeps it up, we could have an all time favorite on our hands.

There's a couple of decent shots of me, all pretty quick though. And I'm only in the pilot, no subsequent episodes. This was probably the best shot, after Rick gets knocked off the horse (I'm on the right):

Since it looks like AMC sold the rights for the series worldwide in record speed or something like that i managed to watch the first episode just a day after on a cable channel here in Chile, it looks like we are gonna get subsequent episodes just a day after their US broadcast which is fucking great. As for the show itself i really liked it, i think they are going to make this show more of a character drama which seems like the right choice, hopefully they bring back Lennie James because that guy is great.
