And yes, I know what happens with him and Shane in the comic. Foreshadowing perhaps in that though Shane sticks around, he will still be off'ed in the same way?
I'm sure it'll be the same way -
loss of Carl's innocence.

Actually, it's not just a recent trend. The original Dawn of the Dead already had this, it's the very reason why zombies are trying to enter the mall.

Speaking of zombie memory and the original dawn of the dead when one of the survivors turns into a zombie the first thing he does is run to the fake wall they built to conceal where they sleep and start tearing it down. So it's clear he remembered that place and made the connection that there would be something good to eat in there.

Oh wow... they are not following the comic... the AMC preview is totally different.
Yeah, we knew early before the season that
there would be a TON more characters. So episode 2 is going to be a huge group fighting zombies, and then episode three will likely be more like the rest of volume 1 of comics.

Started reading the comic, its pretty bleak :lol

Even my Mrs watched this and she HATES zombie media with a passion cos it scares her shitless but by the end
"WHAT!? is that it? I want to know what happens to him!"

lol no...especially to your last bit of comment...this is how I see it playing out

Comic Book spoilers...durr.
Season 1:
We get about a quarter way through volume 1 and reach the gated community. Season 1 ends

Season 2:
Season 2 picks up the next day after their nights rest when Allen's wife gets attacked and dies then we go to Hershel's farm for the remainder of this season.

Season3:
The prison, we don't even see the govenor till season 4

So let's talk about Shane. This is going to be based on the show unless I mark clearly otherwise. Thus, when I talk about the first episode, there will be no spoiler tags as we should have all seen it by now.

The opening dialog between Rick and Shane is interesting. I rewatched that part of the episode last night and I believe that at that point that Shane and Lori are already having an affair. There's a couple looks that Shane gives Rick when he asks him how things are going with his wife that are suspicious. Also, Shane asking Rick if he talks about his feelings, that's likely something that Lori has vented to Shane about. I think it's almost a sure thing that they were screwing prior to the apocalypse. Doesn't mean that Shane wasn't loyal to him though, in some twisted up way.

My wife has had 0 exposure to the comics, and she is 100% assuming that Shane and Lori were already hooking up pre Z-day. There is no indication that they WEREN'T.

Wait, your post doesn't make sense.
Comic Book Spoilers and some minor show spoilers
First of all, we know that the show is right now estimated to go about a volume a season.
Second, you said in season 1 we'll get a quarter through volume 1 and end at the gated community? The gated community is a third of the way into volume 2. Did you mean season 1 ends at that point in volume 2?
I was unclear though, I meant episode 3 through 6 will be the more, I guess mundane elements of volume 1. I don't have that book with me, but I think after Rick gets there it's mainly just happenings at the camp, the one trip into the city for guns, and then shooting Shane. So episode 3 and on will be that.

I'm going to skip most of this thread because I don't want to be spoiled since you fuckers are ahead by a week. :lol

Just caught the first episode. Fantastic stuff. Great production values, great directing. Really awesome mood. <3 <3

Talking about Shane for a second, am I right in reading in the comics that,

Shane and Lori didn't shack up until after they left Rick behind? Also, it kinda explains the hospital a bit more in the scene where she's remembering it as Shane mentions he was being cared for.

If I remember right,
yes, Shane and Lori only hooked up once after leaving for Atlanta. And as someone pointed out previously, Lori regrets the decision and only did it because she was lonely/depressed.

I'm pretty sure that Darabont already said that
Shane will be kept alive much longer in the TV series, to mine some of the love triangle drama

- Would You Survive on The Walking Dead? Find Out With AMC's Atlanta Run Adventure Game
You need a lot of guts to stay alive come the zombie apocalypse -- especially when you've been tasked with entering a Hot Zone to scavenge supplies. Have you got what it takes? Find out with the new 3D action-adventure game The Walking Dead: Atlanta Run, in which you'll take the role of Glenn -- one of the survivors on the show. Your task? Collect the items on your shopping list (and any weapons you spot along the way) then escape. If you encounter any zombie-like walkers, sometimes running away will work; sometimes, it's better to put them down. One warning: Being bitten or scratched means certain death. Good luck!
I couldn't get my character to move with the arrow keys or w/a/s/d, but maybe some of you will have better luck with it.

Can't say I'm surprised. I do want the tv show to take liberties with the comic book as seeing a straight 1:1 adaptation is a little boring. But I hope they don't change too much of the big 'character events' and turn it into another tv show where you never have to worry about the main characters.

hey guys, i dont have cable and I'm sure trying to go around to different friends places every week will get tiresome. plus id like to have people over to watch it sometimes. I thought hulu plus might be a way, but i dont think they do the tv series, and they let you view it a day later. Does itunes have the episode up the minute it starts on regular tv? or is that another one day delay type of thing?

or do i need to not be a cheap ass and just pay for cable to watch it?

Best bet is to not be cheap; or torrent it, but that will not be condoned and shouldn't, given the quality and awesomeness of this show.

AMC is showing the pilot again in an hour (10pm ET) for anyone that wants to watch it (again).

They are also showing it at 2:00am for anyone missing it this time.

Anyway, I always heard that The Walking Dead comics were really good but I never actually got into them (I even remember people talking about the comic when it first came out). When this series was announced and I saw one of the main people behind it was the guy behind Shawshank Redemption (and Green Mile) then I couldn't resist. I was surprised to see it was TV-14 but it didn't disappoint and I hope this series will take a different direction than most TV series of this caliber.

Noooooooooo. Really, I never see why it does not need to be a 1:1 adaptation. You're shoehorning in things from another writer, changing up an established (unfinished) story. Even if you're a great writer, that won't work out for the best most of the time. The original story is great, it's pretty much a storyboard ripe for the picking.

Do they do it just to keep it fresh for the comic book readers? Or do they think the tv audience won't think the story is good enough?

1) I can't think of a single existing legal service that streams live TV to your computer without some sort of payed box or subscription. And I don't even think there are many of those.
2) iTunes has it the day after.

I would recommend torrenting to watch 15 or so minutes after it finishes and then buying it, but then you're an hour and 15 behind discussion anyway. So you could just wait and watch an iTunes copy.

Well, the comic is extremely popular, so I assume that plays a part. But we have the comic already, no reason we can't change some stuff around. Darabont has said he'll follow the storylines, but he will take detours here and there, and I'm fine with that, really.

I really dont mind the extra content. If its in the same vein as in the debut, then it will a nice change and hopefully give us a better chance to know some of the shorter lived characters and their motives. And as long as it doesn't chance pre established storylines, more power to them

SPEAKING of this.

I have a great business idea if anyone wants to go in with me. It'd be a huge haunted theme park, right? You pay admission, and wear a special vest and special light guns like laser tag when you go in. I was initially gonna use paintball guns, but I didn't think the actors would like that very much.

We'll pay a set of two hundred actors to be zombies. Maybe three hundred, i dunno the size of the park.

Anyway, you're given one hour to try to survive. There's trap doors and zombies CAN run and shamble around and open doors. You can play in groups of four, against other groups. Groups can kill each other with the guns, as well as other zombies. The object is to be the last group/man standing.

WHO IS WITH ME!?

You should just partner up with some badass lasertag place and transform the place during Halloween.

YES!

Do it :lol

I'll be your first customer.

Just watched the first episode and I loved it. I can't wait to see where this goes. I was also in Atlanta a couple weeks ago on that very intersection so it was cool to see that.

That game is super shitty :lol my guy lags out and runs into a wall for 30 seconds at a time.

I got stuck at one point where I have to kill this zombie in order to obtain a key. I'm locked in a room.

Only problem, I can't register a hit.

That's actually a pretty dope idea, don't know why it hasn't been attempted yet.

It would be ideal during October-ish though. But all year round would be fun too.

well we'd pump in the fog, and we'd have a series of elaborate sets. Run down houses where zombies can jump out from any closet.

I think it'd be a real amazing thing. Just have to nail down the actual costs involved. All the actors getting paid an average of $10~ an hour, how much it would cost to own and operate the land and get to building the sets and keeping it maintained.

need a good business man :lol

Ami that might be the coolest idea of all time. Like better than an internet social network, or toilets.

Also there could be like different scenarios, like maybe have some trained zombies try to sneak in, instead of just a horde bumrushing the place.

I'm not joking dude, you should try shopping this idea around.

Just watched the first episode. It was amazing, how many episodes are there and will there be s second series?

Your first stop should be to try and get AMC in on the plan, somehow.
They'd front part of the operating costs.
It would also probably have to be located in a fairly large city, of course.

5 more episodes, and the second season is suppose to be 13, I believe.

There are 6 episodes in S1. S2 hasn't been officially announced, but AMC will probably say something about it soon. The ratings for the first episode were fantastic.

I have been thinking about it for a while. It's just I have to come up with a viable business plan that leads to profitability, which is the least fun part of the process :lol

I mean obviously you need admission fees that are SORT of market friendly, but I think it'd be difficult to not be sort of pricey. That's why I gotta try to break things down. need to talk to someone who is business savvy.
