One thing that bothers me: who was the chick in the blue shirt that gets grabbed and eaten during the attack?

I think they were going for the Lost season 1 thing where the group is bigger than the characters they are focusing on. The background actors just keep changing.

Zombies don't care about character development brah, shit is real.
I will admit to being a little shocked so I'll give the show credit for going 'there' I suppose.

Otherwise, the episode was...alright. The ease of the city scoping and the convenient epiphany of that guy's digging were pretty lame.

I think they already said next October. =/
Seems pretty obvious. This show works very well in the October/November time frame.

Having the premiere on Halloween was a brilliant marketing decision...that they will probably attempt to repeat.

This episode was awful. Easily the worst one. That gang protecting the elderly twist was retarded. Perhaps it would have been fine with better dialogue and acting. The acting in those scenes was so ham-fisted that it was almost comical. The ending was great but that was pretty much it.

So in this universe how fast do people turn to zombies?

Episode 4 spoilers:
was I the only one waiting for the girl to turn into a zombie and bite her sister and scare the shit out of me?
Slight spoiler
Minutes to weeks, it depends.

Didn't Mearle's brother possibly infect that guy with the arrow? Since he reuses them.
Possible spoiler from comics:
In the comics it's just death that turns you, not the bite.

If they're willing to schedule around the holidays that would work again.

The twist worked for me. I usually see them coming, and since the show has been a little cliche, the nursing home was a nice surprise.

Also Ive come to accept the quality of acting in the show. Have you ever watched law and order? The stand in characters are always terrible. That's why thier stand Ins. I thought the main characters did just fine in this episode.

I thought
in the comics at one point it appears to start speeding up turning time. By the way I was hoping for this attack to occur, and was glad they did it true to the comics.

Yeah, i know that part, but spreading around zombie blood isn't good at all. :lol

Anyway, i'm starting to like Mearle's brother. He's way more likable, but still pretty ignorant.

The fuck, man? This was easily the best episode since the pilot. It did pretty much everything right.

Aside from the great (and heartbreaking) ending, it was a really great world-building episode. It really helped convey the danger and hopelessness of this world. Really fantastic stuff.

I'm really surprised that GAF's reaction is anything less than enthusiastic.

Satan in a yard sale?

OKAY

I don't think he was being serious. It's called intimidation for a reason

Dude, it's based on a freaking comic book.

If I want Mad Men-style dialogue, I'll watch Mad Men.

Well, it can't possibly be as offensive as the depiction of Hispanics on Breaking Bad, right? :lol
never saw it

but seriously, give the cholos a little credit now and again gringos

I thought it was a great episode. A good balance of action and character drama. Jim's a fun character. I continue to love Glenn and Daryl. T-Dog actually isn't that bad. And Amy and Andrea were sweet. Poor Amy. :(
I don't think any lines were that ridiculous.

I will admit, though, that this show isn't as good as I thought it would be. I was expecting some Breaking Bad or Lost level greatness. So far it's only really good.

i expect it'll prob be a little more longer until the show hits its high points

I think this is the kind of show that's really going to hit its stride in its second season.

With a short first season, I think they feel obligated to get a lot done in a short amount of time. A full second season should let them really establish a good pace and rhythm.

I sure hope so. I think it was the same with the comics; I didn't really love everything that happened up until this point in them either.

Decent episode. I laughed at the badasses with a heart of gold cliche.

I'm really hoping season 2 rounds out to being pilot episode quality. I was really looking forward to the tv series being a filtered version of the comics. Filtering out all the issues the comics had(mainly caricature villains). So far besides the pilot the series has been decent at most.

From what i saw, the ones who died were Ed, Amy, random white girl, and a clone of the Hispanic man main character.

Don't think the zombies were cause of earle. I'd say it was glenn's car alarm. The zombies just started after him, and kept going even when not hearing the sound. Took them a couple days to get there.

I have a feeling though, that earle is the Big Bad of the season.

I do like Darryl, his brother. Anyone else remember him from the Boondock Saints?

I kinda wish they would stop saying "guest starring" for him cause he adds a pretty good natural source of conflict.

I haven't seen the episode, but it should be noted that the first volume (which this season covers, just about) is the weakest part of the comic. He finds his groove in the second/third volume, and all that stuff will be so fucking good in the show.

The pacing so far is weird this season, but I can attribute that to the 6 episode order. I'm expecting them to get that together in the much longer S2.

I'll watch the episode in the morning :D .

To me it looked like everyone died except:
-The Grimes
-That one hispanic family (I don't remember this guys name)
-Carol and Sophia
-Shane
-Dale and Andrea
-Jim
-Daryl

Anyone I'm missing?

I'm a bit conflicted as to whether or not the half-season order was a good thing or a bad thing.

On the one hand, I think it creates some weird pacing issues. But on the other hand, it gives them the luxury of fine tuning the show before tackling a full season.

Props to Darabont and Company for not taking it easy on Amy.

I think most shows and movies would be inclined to take it easy on a prominent character. But man oh man, those zombies really ripped the shit out of her. :lol

Thought it was a pretty great episode aside from the awful opening scene with Andrea and Amy in the boat. I hope they don't end the whole story arc with Merle by the end of this season.

I think -- or at least, hope -- so too.

With great ratings and the guarantee of 13 episodes, I'm optimistic about it providing a bit of breathing space for the writers to structure and embellish a stronger kind of show.

Wow, GREAT episode. My ranks as follows, all of which are excellent:
1. Episode 1 - 9.9/10
2. Episode 4 - 9.7/10
3. Episode 2 - 9.4/10
4. Episode 3 - 9/10
