Who doesn't like zombies eses?

In all seriousness, it's been said before but it's such a successful genre because it brings our worst fears to life, eses.

Fad?
There's like maybe one movie a year involving zombies, only one TV show now, and really not a huge amount of literature. I mean, there was Pride and Prejudice and Zombies recently, but yeah...
Outside of video games, zombies are horribly underrepresented.

Ratings still incredibly strong, still hard to believe this is for a brand new AMC show, based off an indie comic (the sales for that should go through the roof too, btw).
Those are holding up very well, and I'm sure they're getting a decent number of viewers on the rebroadcasts, too. It'll be interesting to see how the numbers are for S2 after such a long break.

In recent years we've seen alot of cable series go up with S2 (SoA, True Blood, Dexter, more HBO stuff) so that could happen here too.

I'm sure the yearlong wait will just make people....hungrier (pun intended :D ) for it. And AMC will plenty of reasons to advertise the hell out of it (and have some ad money left over for Mad Men and Breaking Bad :D ).

Certainly, though some go up and some (most?) go down. I'm curious how AMC is going to handle it since this is their first breakout hit ratings-wise. They had to be patient with MM and BB and slowly build those audiences.

Since it's probably making back more than they are spending by a long shot, they'll likely do a huge marketing campaign for it. Maybe some cross promotion with restaurants or merchandise.

In the last episode Zombies almost got into the camp, why didn't they move then? It should have been a sign that there might be a ambush coming.

This is the first AMC show that I can see becoming hugely popular. I already know more eses who know about TWD than know about BB or Mad Men. They aren't all watching, but I think the positive buzz and the long break will convince a lot of eses to catch up, ese.
I ain't stopping

Because zombies are great for the appetite!

Zombies travel either solo, in distinct packs, or in huge hordes. They took out the whole pack, so there weren't anymore immediately threatening them.

7-11 brings you the Brain Slurpee. I could see it ese.

Maby its just me but I would have moved far away from that place.

Again, overall I loved the episode, but the NHGs brought it down a bit.

I'm glad this show is so successful, if only because Kurt Sutter is likely seething/crying in a corner over the fact that Darabont is kicking him in the balls in the ratings. :D

Who would think an open camp was a good idea anyway?

Seriously. I would have found a tower or something. Easily defensible, since the stairs mean only a few walkers can get in at a time. You can see for miles. Put in a retracting ladder for easy entry/escape.

What was that for ese, my face hurts now. Don't make me get my vatos.

Your nonstop hatred for Sutter is a constant source of amusement for me. :lol

That said, the show definitely has its weaknesses. But for the most part, I love what I've seen so far, and the show is only going to get better as the cast and crew progress. We're only four episodes into the show, and it's pretty much unlike anything that's been done on TV before. If it stumbles a bit out of the starting gate, I'm willing to cut it some slack.
I think i'd be willing to cut it more slack if it weren't such a short run. Coming off the pilot, i was expecting something a lot tighter.

I thought this episode was kinda boring and hammy. I'm losing patience with the show tbh. Between the crappy dialogue, bad acting and naked character archtypes, I end each episode wondering why I was so hyped to watch it. :/

It's not an open camp. It's a camp surrounded by thick brush, trails, meadows, a sheer dropoff and basically the most dangerous terrain I can think of. The Vatos had a way better idea.

That swimming hole looks nice though.

Yeah great idea, instead of addressing any of the valid criticisms just dismiss everyone as "unpleasant people"... I'm gonna do the same for those who make fun of "The Event".

I said unpleaseable. I never said anyone was unpleasant. Jesus.

The ending of last episode was so emotional... I thought it was brilliant the way the camera just focussed on the crying lady as she held her dying sister.. what could be a pretty generic shot turns into a really emotional moment. I wish I didn't need to wait a week to see the next episode... and I wish this season wasn't going by so fast! Only two episodes left? What are we to do... wait six months for season 2? Aargh!

The gangbangers with hearts of gold have to do a lot more scavenging and they're in the middle of an urban area. I'd take my chances with the campsite since there's a source of presumably clean drinking water and fresh water fish nearby. Also, escaping from the campsite is probably easier if they're ever overwhelmed. The nursing home is Helm's Deep. Its easily defensible but the only entrance is also the only exit.

Oh no!

Maybe I should start reading the comics again.. I stopped reading around issue 20 or something.. are those still releasing or has the story wrapped up?

In the last episode I had a lot of Left4Dead vibes.. the character with the crossbow especially gave me a lot of vibes.. now if only L4D2 wasn't an 8GB install!

Hopefully the walkers don't learn how to make bombs...

See, I think I'm more willing to cut it slack because it's a short run. They're not in a position to make adjustments as the season progresses, like most shows are able to do.

That said, I think Season 2 will really awesome. I can think of several TV shows with shortened first seasons that weren't amazing, but then came back with absolutely stellar second seasons. Most of them are sitcoms, but still. :lol

I am pretty disappointed in the show. I had my hopes up after the third episode, but this last one was definitely cringeworthy. I regret getting a season pass on itunes instead of waiting the six months or so it would take for it to be available here in Japan.

It actually has me a bit worried about another show I have been really stoked for--HBO's Game of Thrones. The Walking Dead has reminded me that great source material doesn't always mean a great tv show/movie.

Lit is zombie flooded right now, none of it is making the best seller list but there is tons of it out there.

I dont remember him being annoying on his twitter or blog during season 2, but that season mostly got praised from the critics and fans.

Hes been unbearable this season because it sucks*. He's really turned into a whiny bitch.

*Only seen the first 4 episodes and dont really feel like continuing. It might have gotten better.

As someone who hasn't read the comics, my lesson learnt from this ep is that no one is safe. Jeez.

I was defiantly surprise about her death which is great because I've had some other scenes/surprises ruined for me :-\

Mostly because of WWZ's success. But theres been zombie lit around for a long time as well, not as much as now but lot of whats coming out now is just being kind of ignored anyways. Video games seem like where we are seeing the over saturation of zombie stuff to me.

There are still people out there who think lolcats, demotivators, and rickrolls are funny. Don't underestimate people's desire for the familiar.

I don't think we can say it was Kirkman's fault, his is after all only one of the writers (and it's not like he solely came up with the nursing home idea), but he should've known better than anyone that's wasn't the right way to deliver that. Oh well, no biggie.

He nailed pretty much everything else. And I quite liked the opening, btw.

He did nail a lot, and yes, he's not the only writer, but he was the lead writer on this episode. He could have easily made 2-3 changes to the situation that would greatly increase the success of it.

Episode was amazing. I'd say it was better than 2 and 3 because of the pacing. I really liked the part with the gang as I didn't see the twist coming. Plus, it ended with some really fine action and drama. I also enjoyed the opening with the sisters, really calm scene.

It just felt like an overall package episode. Really good stuff.

some of the acting/writing (particularly withe the Vatos) was sooooo bad though. That and there was something about the scene where the zombies invaded the camp that wasn't thrilling or scary at all. The zombies just seemed so silly and the whole scene wasn't executed very well to me. Plus the way Carl and the others were able to get there so quickly on foot just screamed "SciFi Original Pictures".

It would have been way way better if the vatos were just a group of survivors like Rick and his group and not presented as a gang.
