How about the zombies in The Walking Dead are based off of the zombies in The Walking Dead? Solves a lot of problems.
They're based on Romero zombies (Day of the Dead is Kirkman's favorite).

Posted this a while back, zombie rules for the Walking Dead:
Zombie Rule #1: Ability to run is based on the amount of time a zombie has been undead, and how much decay has set in.

Zombie Rule #2: Zombies decay but at a much slower rate than humans, and it’s still possible to differentiate between young and old zombies.

Zombie Rule #3: Zombies are like lions: if they’ve eaten, you can walk by them without fear, but a pack of hungry zombies will attack you.

Zombie Rule #4: The quickest speed of any zombie is a shambling run. see Night of the Living Dead. NO sprinters exist.

Zombie Rule #5: Zombies are not dexterous. They cannot pick up or use any items more complex than a rock or a stick.

Zombie Rule #6: Zombies have poor eyesight but they do have a strong sense of smell.

Zombie Rule #7: Zombies cannot speak but can communicate by pack mentality. The herd tends to move together if they sight food.

Zombie Rule #8: There is no overt recognition of people or places, there is a sense of familiarity that can dictate where a zombie moves.

Zombie Rule #9: There’s no known cause of the zombie mutation, but it’s suspected to be a virus or infection.

Hmm, guess they were telling the truth.

Charles Eglee, the “Murder One,” “Dark Angel” and “The Shield” writer-producer who left AMC’s “The Walking Dead” after its extraordinarily successful first season, is in talks with FX and Sony to join their “Powers” project based on the graphic novel series created by Brian Bendis, according to Joe Adalian over at Vulture.

Kinda looks like a big hubub over nothing :lol .

- Inside The Walking Dead: Directing Zombies
Here's a pop trivia question: How many different kinds of zombies are there? If you're Rick Grimes, the answer would be "One: the hungry kind." If you're Episode 2 director Michelle MacLaren, however, the answer is slightly different. In this new behind-the-scenes video for The Walking Dead, MacLaren gives a guided tour of the set, explaining the different classes of zombie (Alpha, Beta, Charlie and Delta) and describing how one goes about filming an undead attack in the middle of a torrential downpour.

I never knew the rules about zombies in the "Walking Dead" universe. Thanks for posting this. :)

Okay, just watched the last episode and, despite some strong parts, I didn't like it much and it presented a few things that weakened the series.

The show overall is great. Yes, the opening episode by Darabont is the strongest episode and no following episode matches it but the series knows where it's going and each episode still entertained.

As for the finale, I really didn't like that
there was so much exposition on the biology of the zombie virus
. I'm perfectly happy with the show deviating so widely from the book, in fact I'm happier because of it, but that is not what the Walking Dead is about - which is pure survival. A big computer screen with a voice-controlled AI and CSI-level graphics that zoom in on a CG brain? Way to drop the gritty realism. Also, I had no investment in the woman who decided to stay in the facility and didn't give a shit about her outcome.

So we get a cliffhanger ending with a secret whispered in Rick's ear and a big explosion, which is a shame because the show was doing fine up until then. It's still a very well-made show and I love that the creators have taken the opportunity to take the show in such a different direction from the books whilst, for the most part, retaining the core elements that makes the comic great. The characters do some dumb stuff and they never feel like they're under constant threat all the time, but given the TV format, it's about as good as it can be.

Looking forward to more.

what do people suspect he whispered? I just assumed some sort of other location.

was there some obvious hint toward this that I'm missing? or is it just all implied through that one whisper and the reaction?

I'm confused, book spoilers:
do the above two answers NOT count as massive comic book spoilers even though we've been informed by the comic??

"You're wife is pregnant with a zombie baby. I would abort it if I were you, but then you wouldn't have the classic zombie baby scene in season 3. And besides, aren't you a little curious as to what a zombaby would look like? Just ride it out."

- Video: A Look Ahead at The Walking Dead Season 2
The Walking Dead's first season ended quite literally with a bang, leaving many fans grappling with burning questions as to the fate of Rick Grimes and his fellow survivors. In this new video, The Walking Dead cast and crew address some of these questions and discuss their hopes for Season 2. "Is there a chance of a cure, will they survive, where will they go?" asks Producer Denise Huth. Executive Producer Frank Darabont, for his part, adds: "I want the audience to feel uncertain when they tune in."

Check out this new video interview with the producers as well as cast members Sarah Wayne Callies (Lori), Jon Bernthal (Shane), Laurie Holden (Andrea) and more, and you just may get some valuable insight into where The Walking Dead is heading next.

Not if the show hypothetically starts going in a completely different direction

They've said the comics will be a general guide, they've already talked about how
the Prison
will be in it eventually. So I doubt we'll see any radical shifts.

should probably spoil tag that

I'm avoiding all posts for spoilers so sorry if this has been posted already, but Amazon has The Walking Dead Season 1 for $4.99 as their Deal of the Day on their Video On Demand section.

You could technically get it for free (like I just did) by doing the Tweet for $5 thing they have going on for VOD. :D

Just finished Volume 1 of the tpb. Interesting what happened to
Shane
.

The TV show added some characters that weren't there in the graphic novel.

Ordered Volume 2 and looking forward to what's going to happen.

If season one really wanted to have some sort of impact, they would have had
Rick kill Shane (which would have been different than the book, but still would have made sense.

As it was, the last episode was fuckin attrocious.

It's a really good thing they fired the writers. This is supposed to be a horror, not a fucking action movie with exploding buildings.

Well that'd be cool, at least we wouldn't have to wait until October. Cranston saying it hardly means it's set in stone, though.

I'd like this a lot better. Put the FINALE on Halloween.

Yeah, I agree with this.

Just as a note, if the finale is on October 31 (which is a Monday) or on the 30th and it runs for 13 straight Sundays, that puts the premiere on July 31.

Wow.

That pairing would probably help Breaking Bad's ratings so I'm all for it. On the other hand, airing next to Breaking Bad would really highlight what an awful show Walking Dead is.

It would be the best show on television paired with the worst show that I watch.

Harsh but fair.

When did the Walking Dead become a awful show?

I don't think this would be good news if true. Breaking Bad started shooting this week, but The Walking Dead doesn't seem close to resuming production. The last thing this show needs is another rushed schedule.

I did the work and got to the original source, since none of these stupid sites actually link to it.

When it was first announced that Breaking Bad's premiere was being pushed back to July, immediate speculation was that AMC was trying to help Mad Men's Jon Hamm get an Emmy by taking you out of the race. Do you think that factored into the decision at all?
Not at all. It was a decision from AMC that they wanted to position us in July, along with Mad Men. And I believe they're going to put Walking Dead in July as well. I think it's just a sensible thing — they want to attract as many eyeballs as possible, away from the heavy competition of the September, November, January start. Also, Jon is fantastic. I'm a big fan of Mad Men. I certainly couldn’t complain if any one of the other actors had won those awards instead of me. I'm glad it was me, but I think it's great that I'm not eligible for an Emmy next year. It doesn’t bother me in the least.

He seems to indicate Mad Men would also be in July... so I don't think this is true at all, or it's a bunch of old, talked about scheduling strategies that have been mixed up in his head and since scrapped. No way AMC is putting those three on at the same time.

- 'The Walking Dead' Cast Talk Season 2 at the Golden Globes *some spoilers*
"They're waiting for Atlanta to get as hot as possible before they send us back down," laughed Sarah Wayne Callies when asked when filming is set to start on the new season.

"We really do not know a thing," said Jon Bernthal. "[But] we're super excited."

While the cast didn't have much info on the timeline for the season, they did seem to confirm "Walking Dead" creator Robert Kirkman's tease that
sword-wielding survivor Michonne will make her debut this season, but sadistic Governor isn't likely to the same.

"I don't know about Season Two [for The Governor]," said Callies. "I don't know when that's coming."

"Definitely Michonne... and Hershel's farm," added Laurie Holden.
