Twenty-Eight (Radio Edit)

Ahhh I was wondering about this. Heard House of Balloons on Sirius XMU the other day and meant to ask on Twitter if he finally had signed a deal/was releasing officially. I guess so. :)

I know it's available for free, but all this for 10 dollars is a stealllllllllllll considering the amount of content/quality of the mixtapes. Nice packaging too!

(So far) All the songs have been "remastered". Some turned out better, others didn't meet expectations.

Halfway though HoB.

Ahhhh fuck.

Oh well, still have the originals of course. And who knows...I guesssss they could turn out better.

When you say didn't meet expectations do you mean certain songs sound worse? Or that they sound the exact same as on the mixtapes. :S

Also they couldn't clear the What You Need sample of Aaliyah? That was my favorite from the first tape... probably ruined. :(

I guess they sound worse because they're different from the mixtapes? What You Need didn't have the sample at the beginning and HoB/Glass Table Girls sounded off. His vocals on The Morning's chorus almost sounds brighter but not necessarily a good thing. I dunno.

Edit: Yeah, no Aaliyah sample.

Oh okay thanks. Sorry I didn't understand. That's a shame about the Aaliyah sample, and Hob/Glass Table Girls was my second favourite too. Guess I'll just have to hear it for myself.

I am surprised the Aaliyah sample was cut. I can't imagine it would have too much trouble being cleared... The Weeknd's great friends with Drake and I would figure he could of pulled some strings considering he is releasing a new album for her.

Finally got around to Thursday and enjoying it a lot more. Thursday (the track) is really good. Damn.

Valerie has grown on me.
From the snippets, Valerie was my next favorite. Enemy I didn't really care for but we'll see. I definitely try to like it since it sampled The Smiths.

The Zone: still great. Drums had some tweaking though?

Is it worse?! Man, if they fucked that up. There better be some high quality screwed release for this too. Same Old Song screwed is so good. Sad that pj04 from KTT started chopping. Greatly prefer the just screwed releases.

The Zone

I'm only getting audio through my right headphone. I don't know what's up.

Great video! His proper debut LP will be great, especially that it's not being rushed out.

It rubs me the wrong way when I see spoiled people post on his facebook and other outlets calling him lazy for not releasing anything this year... after putting out three quality albums for free in the span of a year. Really sad.

Always wanted to get into The weeknd, just couldn't. I do like some of his songs though. High For This and Rolling Stone are my favorites.

What songs from the album should I check out first?

It may seem like a lot but listen to every project of his from beginning to end in sequential order first.

House of Balloons -> Thursday -> Echoes of Silence.

Damn, that video is just so good. I didn't feel like the other videos were capturing the weeknd vibe I get. The zone hits it perfectly!

so what's the verdict on the remastering. I've been worried since that wicked games preview that the remaster would be really bad.

also, is it getting a vinyl release or no? Might just get the CD anyway, sure a 3+ LP set would be hefty and expensive.

Hit or miss? Gone is the worst offender. It sounds fucking awful now, like really fucking bad. Most of the tracks can fit squarely in "Eh, they didn't need to change but this is alright" or "this sounds better" camps though.

Echoes gained the most from the remaster. A lot of tracks on Echoes have a much bigger and better soundscape now. D.D. is more epic, the kicks in Same Old Song are bigger etc.

Basically all the earlier shit, the sample heavier stuff took the biggest hit. It's worth the upgrade though, even with the bad and if you played the living shit out of these tapes like I did, it feels nice giving the dude some support.

On the vinyl front, someone on a vinyl forum said one was coming. No confirmation or anything official yet though.

cool then. wanna help the man so I'll grab the CD when I get my next paycheck. if the vinyl's up in the air I don't feel like waiting, been meaning to spend less by buying discs more often anyway.

i was gonna come here and complain about "gone" but looks like you already got to it. it sounds absolutely horrible.

the 3 new songs are good, but i hate that "super mario mushroom" sound during the hook of "twenty eight". i think this, and a whole bunch of the songs are just over produced. trilogy for the most part sounds like a "limp" versions of his mixtapes..some just dont quite have the punch as the originals.

im happy to give the guy my 12 bucks but i wont be replacing the mixtape songs with the trilogy.

Eh, I think EoS from Trilogy > Mixtape version. I wouldn't delete the tapes of course, for completion sake and the tracks that do sound better but there are a lot of tracks that benefit from the remaster.

Does Future Shop and Best Buy not carry the CD in Canada? Checked both sites and found nothing unless my search skills are shit. Pretty weird considering you would think one of the largest retailers in the country which was once Canadian (Future Shop) would at least carry an artist from Canada. All 3 tapes have been on my iPhone and gotten tonnes of play but for $10 I'm in just for the 3 tracks and remaster.

Just bought the album. Really sexy package, very well put together. Nice having a booklet for each mix tape with artwork and stuff.

House of Balloons was the soundtrack to my second year at University so no issues dropping £10 on this.

I used to only dig House of Balloons, but I've been jamming to all of Trilogy the past few days and I'm really enjoying it. HoB is still by far the best tho.

I found it for $10 at HMV, discounted from $15.99 ... weird considering it came out on Tuesday. I checked Best Buy and Future Shop online prior, I didn't see it either. Not sure what's going on, but HMV has it, if you're close to one.

Twenty Eight and Valerie are amazing.
