That's the only reason I do.You don't buy a Nintendo console for 3rd party games.

I don't think I've ever bought so few games for a console. I played most of its big games. I think 4-5 WiiU games entered my Top 10 from 2012-2016.
My most played game on the system is still Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate. I'm not going to sit here and say I didn't enjoy my time with it, but these are the facts.
It's one of the most inconsequential consoles I've ever bought.
Pretty much. I can't for the life of me see the appeal in stuff like Mario Maker which is apparently a system seller and this year all it has is... TMS and I'm not touching that either. Not liking a big game for this thing basically lets you with no reason to care for it for half a year. Terrible. If you didn't like some of the WiiU heavy hitters, you just didn't have a reason to even keep the console plugged in.
Shovelware for the Wii was amazing. Epic. Companies I never heard of releasing stuff.
Yep, 3DS support is terribad. As comparison, PS Vita, which has less than a quarter of the install base of 3DS has more than 1000 third party games by now.
Hence the reason people don't buy them.

I have an iCloud Pages document with the entire Wii U retail library that I've gone through and categorized by what I own and what I want to own so I make sure to pick up everything I want before Wii U games get stupid difficult to find.

A quick count of the games in green tells me that I have 56 games in my Wii U library and that'll easily cross the 60 count by the time the system leaves retail availability.
Not a bad little library of games for what some called a "disappointing" system. And that's not taking into account eShop exclusives and the like.
Any way you'd be willing to share or link that library list?
By having one unified catalog with the NX, with handled and "hd versions" basically the same, just on bigger resolution once docked, I think that will fix the problem.
I think anyone who has a WiiU is thinking "no shit."
It's got a ton of games, just not many that people want to play.
Yeah, i mean, what people don't seem to understand is that third party means choice. When you have to rely on Nintendo for games and they only have a few games a year, you are going to be SOL if the game of the quarter is not that great or of no personal interest to you.

I have significantly more WiiU games than I do for my Xbox One or PS4; all bought at launch.
The WiiU definitely has lesser quality and less "influential" games coming from Nintendo - and 3rd party support is pretty much nonexistent.
That said, SM3D World, WW & TP HD, Wonderful 101, Kirby CS, Yoshi WW, XCX, TMS#FE, Bayonetta 1&2, SSB, Mario Kart, Super MM, Pikmin 3, DKCTF, Splatoon... there are some absolute must-owns on the system.
Must owns on the other consoles, for me at least:
PS4:
Bloodborne (best game of the gen, by far)
Driveclub
Uncharted 4
Last of Us HD
Xbox One:
... MCC was my second biggest disappointment after The Old Republic and right before Too Human, so that sucks. And Halo 5, I guess? Forza Horizon 3 is looking to be a blast.

Everyone's list is different, no doubt. But I would argue if you do enjoy "Nintendo games" the WiiU is a must-own system. Shame about its price and 3rd party support, though, of course.

The drop in first party output probably is due to the fact that Nintendo still had to adjust to HD game development despite being late to the party.

I've bought most of Nintendo's consoles partly for their third party games.
I bought the NES in part for Mega Man and Castlevania.
I bought the SNES in part for Street Fighter II, Final Fantasy, and Super Star Wars.
I bought N64 partly for GoldenEye, Perfect Dark, and Turok.
I bought GameCube partly for Rogue Squadron, Eternal Darkness and Skies of Arcadia.
Elebits, Muramasa and Zack & Wiki are still three of my favorite Wii games.
Your post is not the universal wisdom you think it is.

Your post is not the universal wisdom you think it is. Nintendo's third party support has been diminishing over time, but was still a major part of its appeal up until the Wii U completely thumbed its nose at third parties.
Yup.
And I would even argue that Nintendo losing out on Metal Gear and FF 7 hurt them alot and they never really recovered from that as far as mind share.
GoldenEye, Perfect Dark, and Eternal Darkness were all published by Nintendo.
Interestingly the Wii U and 3DS both have fairly decent attach rates compared to past systems despite their poor hardware and even poorer software sales and overall smaller libraries, 6.8 and 4.7 respectively.
The Wii U figure doesnÂ’t include games (like indie titles) that were only released digitally. I'm not sure if you could say that these would have previously been retail releases. They probably just wouldn't have been released at all in previous generations.
What this doesn't distinguish between is meaningful selection and junk. WiiU has a small library, but I've found more games I've wanted to play on there than the xbone and ps4 combined.
The author kinda alludes to it, but glosses over that too much.
Judging by this list....you dont like 3rd party games?
Cuz if you include 3rd party I'm sure ppl's list of XBO and PS4 must haves is alot bigger.
That said... I know, opinions n all.
