The Witcher 2: @GOG: DRM-Free, bonuses. @Steam: cloud saves, 'chieves. $45 Digital CE

How did I miss that post? The Witcher 1 STILL won't run locked at 60fps for me.
If it wasn't self-evident, I was being facetious. The Witcher would slow down to a crawl for me at times on high settings. However, I did seem to get consistently better results from it compared to Neverwinter Nights 2.

My only problem with GOG versions of games is that I can't launch them from my Steam library. The only exception has been Duke Nukem 3D after modding it.

Still, the advantages of the GOG version seem to outweigh those of the Steam version for me. I still don't see where the confirmation of the cloud and achievements is though. I don't really need achievements and I'm only gonna be playing this on one system so it doesn't matter.

I'll still probably wait until around February or something to pre-purchase though, once I'm definite on that GPU upgrade.

??

I launch all of my GOG games via Steam.

Add a game --> Add a non-Steam game ---> Browse ---> go to appropriate installation directory and select exe of game you want to add.

It's not like the same game would work if it was a real Steam game. The overlay just doesn't work with older games, even stuff purchased from Steam.

Well, now that I "own" the game and know when it comes out, all I really have left to speculate on is how much screen time Triss will get. And how many times she will demand sex.

I love that woman.

9 days before my birthday...aaah early present for me. I'm going to get the Collectors Edition since it's been said so many times before, loved the first one and they deserve my money.

Does GoG require some kind of portal to play the games (ala Steam) or would it just be there on my desktop waiting for me to double click it?
not only is the game just on your desktop but you can keep the installer files. It is like only a game on a floppy disc, you can make as many copies as you want, keep them anywhere, and install it anytime. You can of course download your game again whenever you want as well.

Woah. Steam and GoG going head to head! Awesome :lol

I've never been so conflicted in my whole damn life. The GoG page is so much prettier than the steam page, and I like the idea of giving CDProjekt more money, but steeeeeeeam cloooooud. :lol

I hope they make them as un-sexy as possible like that witch from the first act in the first game.

That'd be dope.

Probably some in-game or in-launcher (auto) patching process.
Still would prefer it to be done in the background, but it is kind of win-win situation. Both are great at doing different things at the moment.

I think he's probably referring to the DOSBox stuff, where simply adding the executable doesn't work.

No cards in this one. Everyone feel free to start asking for pre-order refunds now.

But... how else will I fondly reminisce about nailing a nasty beast woman chained to a wall?

If the prison break preview thing is anything to go by, it's still fairly graitutitious. "I'm grateful to you for freeing me. Now allow me to cover myself." Yeah, you didn't have to point that out in dialog you know. We all saw them.

Rock Paper Shotgun went after them for that.

At the very least, they got rid of those cards.

Those were much worse than anything we have seen thus far.

Yeah, this part in particular made me worry about the writing. There was some good stuff in the original but there seemed little justification for the nudity here.

It probably won't. The Aurora Engine was insanely optimized technology. I'm quite saddened that it wasn't reused for the sequel.
This is crazy talk. Aurora Engine is super bloated garbage.

Awesome. Amazon is selling The Witcher Enhanced Edition digital download for $6. Time to get this and play it before Witcher 2 comes out.

Why is this available on Steam right now? Thought it was released in May?! .

Fake edit: Just had a look, turns out most people think it's a mistake.

She's probably still not talking to me. I blew her out for the redheaded chick :lol

I went with GOG.com just for the extra goodies and the support of the actual dev team. Man, how fucking awesome is that. However, it is kind of frustrating because it makes it seem like the game is close. It's still so far :( The soundtrack bonus tracks are really awesome though. Man I love this series, folks~!

What would be really awesome would be if they pulled a Frictional/Amnesia and just allowed GOG users to unlock with a code on Steam...

Can anyone run the trade quarter at 60fps yet?

I thought maybe it was just me that had issues, but obviously it isn't! I just beat Trade Quarter, but sometimes the stuttering is just so frustrating!

im lazy so i might get the steam version, but i'd like to support my polish brethren so i should go GOG, decisions decisions decisions

i want the CE but i need to know the weight first since i'm paying 8 bucks for every lb :/

if its too much then gog or team version

See it this way, they probably get as much money from the Steam version as the GoG version seeing as pre-ordering on GoG gives you store credit on the GoG Store anyway :P

I'll probably splurge on the $130 super duper insane edition of the game. I'm one of the few holdouts that prefer boxes/manuals and all that jazz, so I haven't fully got on board stuff like GOG and Steam (tho I can respect what they do).

Buying the game from steam is still supporting them. If they didn't want you to buy from steam they wouldn't have given the option.

only standard edition? Wtf? Tell me i'm reading it wrong.

The cool thing about the Witcher was that if CDProjekt released a more all inclusive edition, everybody who purchased any version it got it for free.

Hopefully they continue this if they release a version all includes all DLC's and preorder bonuses.
