• Hey Guest. Check out your NeoGAF Wrapped 2025 results here!

The Witcher 3 has been delayed to May 19, 2015.

Cancelled my psn preorder. all this news made me afraid
maybe will buy after (positive GAF) reviews.

CDPR hasn't made many games but they've shown time and time again that they are pro-consumer. They've given away free DLC for both of their games, and have built a strong and DRM free DD platform. They've shown that they listen to their fans when they stopped aggressively going after pirates when the community cried out against the practice.
The news of the dela, coupled with the downgrade rumors and the "insider" tips are worrisome, but not enough for me to throw in the towel with CDPR. If TW3 comes out and it sucks, or isn't what they've promised, then I'll grab my pitchfork and join the rabblerousing. But as it stands I have faith in them to deliver.

Yep. I really think CDPR delayed their game only because some sour NeoGAF members were complaining.... Come on, man. Just NeoGAF being NeoGAF.

Only because? Probably not. But the timing is indeed telling IMO. Three days ago everything was fine and dandy, "the game is gorgeous, we swear!!", free dlc and all the shit. If the problems are so big that they had to delay the game again, they must have known this earlier than Friday. Why release the trailer then? Nobody would have said anything. They did it, there were disappointed fans. Must have been some sort of reality check for them.

It always sucks when anticipated games are delayed. But it sucks even more when anticipated games release, and after you pay 60 you learn its still in a beta, or worse yet, completely broken state.

Sad to hear another delay for this game, however it's not entirely unexpected based on the scope of this title. I guess I'd rather they get it right and take their time especially based on recent industry face-palms like the launch of AC Unity or even Halo MCC.

It's a shame about the delay.....but now you all can buy Bloodborne to tide you over, i know it's not the same but still.

I'm pretty numb to delays. Of course I used to be a huge fan of...

I just wanted you to know that I appreciated this post

You dont just delay games on a whim like that. They will have been well aware of their level of progress for a while and I bet if a delay is necessary, it will be something they'd have been talking about for a while internally.

Sounds good to me, I want this to be the best game CDPR has made and if it takes a little longer, cool.

I'm a Nintendo fan, I'm used to delays

I'm not going to lie. I was using the Witcher 3's release to justify upgrading my PC early next year. With the delay I no longer have that excuse. I'll still upgrade but will likely hold off a little bit longer before doing so.

As far as the game goes I just want it to be as good as it can be. Make it right, CDPR.

I'm glad it was delayed, I was feeling overwhelmed with all the games in the first trimester and this gives me more time to put together the money for new hardware.
This isn't surprising, since they started revealing info it always seemed too ambitious for a studio of that size.
Take the time to polish it CDPR, we know you support your releases but having a polished product out of the box is nice.

tehe

The second delay stings a little more than the first, but as long as we still get an amazing open world Witcher game that looks like those early videos on PC, then take all the time you need CDPR.

Well damn.

This gives me time to wait to build my new PC. I'm kinda happy about this, it'll be just a bit better for it I'm sure.

If that's correct, then they deserve all the critique they're getting and some more. Because if they knew earlier, that means they deliberately concealed this information and deceived their fanbase until the last possible moment.

On one hand, I'm disappointed I won't get to play TW3 as soon as I would like

On the other hand, I'm happy that they're aware of the state of their game and are willing to take the additional time needed on this side of the release to make their game the best that they can.

Given the releases we've seen over the last few years that were rushed and broken and games with day 1 patches to make them playable or games that are still broken ages after they release, CDPR not only gets my understanding but my respect as well for being big enough to say "this isn't gonna be good enough, we're pushing it back."

I'm ok with this, more time means higher polish and optimisation.

I have more than enough games to keep me busy until then :)

I am pretty sure the reaction to the latest trailer made them sure to announce the delay. Not sure if it was only because of that. But I don't think they tried to deceive the community. After all, the game is available to pre-order since June.

Does anyone think there is a correlation between the recent downgraded graphics on consoles and this delay?

They are most likely stuck between a rock and a hard-place at getting the game to not-look-like shit while not running-like-shit on the consoles w/o destroying the PC version (where a majority of the fanbase is).

Last I heard they have dedicated teams for each platform so this should not be a problem, unless they agreed to some kind of parity clause with MS which I highly doubt. I have complete faith in them in this regard.

My guess is they bit off a bit too much than they can chew and just simply cannot manage it.

Aside from all this and their pro anti-DRM and pro fan-friendliness I still think a lot of their PR from The Witcher 3, even from early on, hints that they want to join the ranks of other AAA studios and are steadily becoming more and more prone to PR stunts and alike.

I think they're just as ruthless and aggressive as most other big game developers, but they're pushing their populistic agenda of pleasing fans and being anti-greedy but not because they really care, but because it increases their reputation among gamers. The fact is they're still very dishonest and beating around the bush, just like Bioware or EA or Ubisoft in many ways. (yes I am aware I'm mixing developers with publishers here)

regardless of their intent behind their pro-consumet actions, it shows that they are smart enough to eschew the tactics of other major devs/pubs. In the end the result is the same: consumers benefit. I'm of no illusion that they aren't all about the mighty dollar, but they've gone about it in a not sleazy way, and that counts for something.

I may get a lot of shit for this post, but can I be honest with you guys? I think even after all the delays this game will receive, it will still be a buggy, disappointing mess whenever it releases. I would love to eat crow on this one, but I just have this strong gut feeling of inevitable disappointment.

Buggy mess? Probably not.

Not delivering on original promises? Most likely.

Disappointment? Hard to say considering the previous efforts of CDPR.

Oh yes, there will be euro jank. I'm almost anticipating it, though.
