The Witcher 3 Is Reportedly Set To Receive New DLC

Honestly I care far more about them improving DX12 performance. Even on my 4090/9800X3D, I get horribly inconsistent performance with bad CPU overheard in places like Novigrad.

It's largely mitigated by running in DX11 mode, but you give up DLSS, ray tracing and HDR, which sucks. Ray tracing in this game is actually decent.

Ngl looking forward to this more than most new releases coming this year.

One thing that worries me is Geralt's VA though. Already in the extra quest added by the next-gen update, he didn't sound particularly good anymore, and now quite a few years have passed again.

But maybe Ciri is the playable character instead and there is no problem, we'll see.

Can't say I share the enthusiasm.
In fact, while I'm somewhat curious, I'm questioning if this will even bring enough novelties or improvements to make me want to play it.
And for the record "Playing as Ciri"wouldn't count as one in my book.

I don't think we will see gameplay upgrades. Both the DLCs for this game had an excellent story to tell, and I expect that to continue. That's the main draw for me.

No need for "novelties" or "improvements". Witcher 3 is fine, it barely aged. As long as the expansion has a nice new map to explore, well written and well designed quests, it will be enjoyable and successful. Like Blood and Wine.

..although I hope we will play Geralt in it.

About to start my Blood and Wine playthrough (played it last year for a hour or so but never continued)soon and I really hope this new one is meaty. Witcher 3 is life!

From all the rumors it seems to be prequel to Witcher4 where ciri losts her abilities and goes through trial of grasses so that they don't need to spend half a game trying to turn lore into pretzels instead of delegating it to Witcher 3 DLC that you get after finishing everything with expansions (aka barely anyone will play it because how long game is) and then when storm of people will ask wtf Ciri can't teleport and so on they can just say: "You didn't play DLC for witcher3, there everything resolved now focus on Witcher4 and don't ask questions."

As a fan i really can't stand it. In order for her to become protagonist they are willing to butcher lore and you know how it goes. That + a ton of writers these time aren't polish anymore and I doubt they read or care about lore.

You can play any W3 dlc without even touching the main game, no reason to think this will be any different.

There are DLC that are added and you don't get to play them until you get to see them in game. Only proper expansions are available from new game. This one won't be full expansion like B&W.

Yeah, I'm still looking forward for TW4 but I really don't like they went with Ciri for the protagonist.

You're in for a real treat, I wish I could experience it for the first time again!

Are you a fan of the books or the games? b/c the lore for each have always been treated as separate from each other. Considering since W1 the games have taken place after the books, CDPR writers have made a number of changes that have diverged from the books, but as long as it's well written and serves to drive the gameplay and story forward, it shouldn't matter. The games prioritize gameplay and aren't a strict adaptation of the books.

Also, where do you get the idea the writers aren't Polish anymore, W4 is made at their Poland studio. The main writer Marcin Blacha has been there since the beginning of the series.

My only concern with Witcher 4 is the switch to Unreal engine 5. I cannot state how much I HATE that move when their own engine was perfectly viable and quite scalable to low end hardware that was quite remarkable.

Fun fact, whenever I wanted to start a new playthrough on a new platform I would start the game aas the DLCs, get the new mutations and then go into NG+ with pretty much all the grinding done.

Reportedly it's going to cost $30 so it will be a full expansion like HoS and B&W.

It's not reported but was said by some analyst guy who just predicted it for his market analysis. I don't think we should treat analysts as inside knowledge as their job is literally a professional guesswork

Unfortunately there is a lot of false rumors about this expansion like that which are either not true or taken completely out of context

I've been making my way through the Witcher 3 for close to a decade. Finally halfway through the story. And the story is amazing, but man that combat is boring. That's why I'm so excited for Crimson desert. It reminds me of W3 with more engaging combat (though I'm sure the story won't compare). But that says something about the Wild hunt that I keep returning for its story. It's great storytelling.

You are aware that the 'partnership' was essentially moving all RED engine developers over to UE5? They have free reign to modify the engine, making a totally custom version, and after they're done they're going to port the new features over the the main branch of UE.
This is a lot more than simply switching engine. The upgrades they would've done to red, they're doing to UE, with more support - and long term, it makes UE better.

Nowadays you can spend a decade playing a single game. If it were still in the noughties we would have had at least two sequels by this time.

Yeah this is the type of game that I wish they would just keep on the same engine and do a sequel. It's already so good. But I'm still excited for the sequel.

It's good to see Nate saying it exists, but that isn't yet a guarantee it's a big one or more like something small.

There`s a lot of mods that change and improve the combat system among else. I had a playthrough when the game originally released and then a few years later fully modded to play through the DLCs and it was a very different and much better experience.

You have any recommendations? I never found any that changed combat much, though I looked.

I do believe that this expansion exist and that Fool's Theory is working on it as even CDPR's financial reports are indicating it. They recently said that Fool's Theory is working on unannounced project and has about 100 devs on board working on it. And they were clear it's not Witcher 1 remake but something else

But yeah, all of the other rumors like narrative bridge between Witcher 3 and Witcher 4, Zerrikania / Velen as a setting, price and launch date were taken out of context and were unfortunately speculations and weren't based on any insider knowledge

Yeah. Because wasn't it claimed that it would drop this month? I can't see that happening anymore to be honest.

All Witcher fans should watch the old movie The Warlock. It's a classic and reminiscent of the feel of The Witcher.

Julian Sands really was a legend.

Anyway, fuck me I'd love a reason to play Witcher again, lol.

Yep, in two months from now. That analyst said he expects it to launch this May for $30. While this may still happen, I also know why this analyst betted on those specific details. With release date he was just repeating a pattern as Witcher 3 and Blood and Wine expansion both launched in May, while the $30 price was the same CDPR set for Phantom Liberty

The expansion is supposedly set in Velen. Would've preferred to see them further develop the area around Novigrad, the north side of the map feels like cut content. But I guess they're going for something grim to contrast the picturesque ending in Toussaint.

The idea of not being done with this remarkable game 10 years on is exciting.

Velen? So it will be old territory? That would be a bit disappointing. Especially if it's 30 bucks. Blood and Wine had a brand new location.

I always assumed it would be a mini DLC passing the torch to Ciri.

I hope this isn't the case.
They have 100+ devs working on it at Fool's Theory, it's not going to be small. The question is whether it's going to be an extension of the main map of the game or an entirely new region like B&W.

An expansion of Velen, my guess is a new area in the bottom left side of the map.
I hope they do the area north of Novigrad, that area has always felt undeveloped to me. There's just nothing there.

Down south is the massive Nilfgaardian camp, which works quite nicely as a "border" I think.
