Guys help me to understand two tings:
-which one is the stamina bar?
-how does stamina impact me?

The yellow half circle thing is your Sign "stamina", you deplete it even if you sprint around out of combat, which is why Geralt stops running. The other thing is Adrenaline, basically my understanding is that you do more damage as you fight without taking any damage yourself.

Curved yellow bar in the top left. Casting a sign takes a full bar, running, rolling, blocking and parrying also takes some stamina to do.

Not as important to manage it like in the Souls games (especially with crutches available via upgrades), but still something you should have an eye on, especially if you often incorporate signs in your combat.

It annoys me greatly that you can't remove runes or glyphs without destroying either the item or the runes. Don't want to dismantle my Enhanced Witcher gear and weapons (otherwise I have to re-craft them multiple times), but don't want to lose all the greater glyphs etc attached to them either. But I've got weapons better than the Witcher set right now....

Well I think one of the patches at least made it so that you can upgrade your Witcher gear without losing your runes and glyphs.

Question about the ening of the side quest Wild at Heart in Velen:
Is it possible to cure Niellen instead of killing him? I didn't find anything in the game about that but maybe I missed it.

No. The best you can do is walk away when the other woman asks you too. But I suspect that this will have even worse consequences.

Is there a glitch associated with the Glyph crafting and Mutagen crafting in the game?

I just bought all the Glyph diagrams from a dude in Skellige and have the appropriate lesser Glyphs to craft the standard ones, but the menu just won't let me, telling me I don't have the right components.

It is driving me crazy. Anyone else run into this?

God damn this game is amazing.

Lost track of how many hours I have played it. (In game timer says 6 days for whatever reason) but I hope to spend many many many more in this amazingly crafted world.

Not since Ocarina of Time or Morrowind have I been this immersed in a world. The environments, the weather, NPC routines, characters, lore, etc etc are just so spot on its incredible.

It doesn't feel like CDPR created a world, it feels like they went to a world and captured it in digital form.

Tiny details in armor, or the way the docks of novigrad feel "wet" and it is as if you can smell the air. The way every quest seems like it is a part of the world youre in, not just a tick box. The way decisions, much like day to day decisions in life, have uncertain and often unexpected outcomes. The fantastic writing and well developed characters that inhabit the world. The small towns and farms on the outskirts of larger cities. Ways in which the war has left its mark on the countryside, from abandoned battlefields, scarred inhabitants, corpses littering the land, or just the uneasy tension of common folk.

I could go on for hours about all the tiny details that make this one of the best games I have ever played, but truth be told I would rather go back to playing.

I will also say that I have had my definitive "This is Next Gen" moment of this generation. In terms of not just fidelity, but an immersion that just was not possible before.

I thought it was going to happen first in FO4 or TESVI, and I have posted many times about it being my dream for next/current gen. But Wild Hunt has beat them all to the punch.

I was in an Inn in Novigrad, enjoying the sights and sounds, watching fights, playing gwent, drinking beer and exploring unlocked doors, when I heard the sound of thunder rolling outside, and raindrops hitting heavily.

I walked to a window, and this is what I saw. (Off screen video from my phone mind you)

My dream came true. This is what its all about.

Anyway, I'll stop gushing. Back to Novigrad I go.

Love to read shit like this. Keep 'em coming.

Yes. When I bought my first few rune/glyphs diagrams, it seems as if they added a second category of runes/glyphs to the game. If one is tagged in the wrong item category, they can't be used for crafting. They also won't stack properly, so I have one stack of 3x Chernobog and one stack of 1x Chernobog. It should just be one stack of 4x Cherno, of course, but it seems the 1x one is in the wrong category and won't show up in the crafting menu and is counted as a spearate item because of it.

It's so annoying when you stun an enemy then try to sprint towards him but geralt will walk slowly in a guarding position with his sword.

Sprinting in combat drains a lot of stamina, and after using a sign you'll be out of it. Nevertheless, you shouldn't stun enemies who are far away using Aard. Use Axii instead. Aard is for up-close.

The yellow half circle thing is your Sign "stamina", you deplete it even if you sprint around out of combat, which is why Geralt stops running. The other thing is Adrenaline, basically my understanding is that you do more damage as you fight without taking any damage yourself.

Adrenaline is also used for special attacks.

I buy every Gwent card I come across but am holding off becoming Gwent world master until after I finish the main storyline. Considering it's a separate game within a game, I want to be sure I have nothing else clogging the pipeline so I can really learn the ins-and-outs.

This reads like it came straight out of my own mind. This is exactly how I feel about the game and it makes me happy to see other people so head over heels in love with it. My favorite game of all time I'd say. A masterpiece.

I think you may be vastly overestimating how deep Gwent is.

Also, you will never be Gwent master if you wait until the end to play it because at that point you've missed half a dozen or more unique cards you can no longer obtain.

Looks like my playtime got glitched now. It's probably the one of a few bugs I've encountered in this game so I can't complain. Haven't had any freezes, but what bugs me the most is the peformance of the game and the load times. Hopefully they'll address them in a future patch. (PS4)

Probably been answered but this is a pretty hefty thread. If I've never played a Witcher game would I be able to pick up with this? I am not big on anything other than adventure and top down rpg on pc so never got around to the first 2.

You'd probably be pretty lost if you started with the third game. You could watch recap videos or read story summaries to get a vague understanding but you'd be missing out. You're in luck though, you can play the first game from a top-down perspective.

Don't know what this guy is talking about; the game is perfectly playable even if you've never played Witcher before. You won't feel lost at all, really, especially not if you watch the recap that's in the OP, but even that won't be necessary.

Really?? Gonna have to check it out. Thanks. I'm actually surprised they didn't come out with an HD collection on PS4 of the first two considering they weren't available on PS3. Does Microsoft have exclusivity on those?

The game is done for people like you, it starts slow, and it tries to explain the story very clearly (which in the end isn't the most complex story ever).

That said, expect being "in the middle of things", with lots of characters that know you already, you have to know to "go with it", and don't fret it.

I really didn't enjoy the previous games but have loved this one. Some of the characters reference things that are obviously from the other games, but it doesn't really matter. It's not like jumping into The Wire in season 3, it's all fairly straightforward fantasy storytelling. Buy it now!

Same here, exactly how I feel. I won't say favorite all time, but easily in the top 10.

Decided to go along the plan to
kill Radovid
ended killing
Djikstra too because I was not going to let him kill Roche and his friends
Kinda disappointed on how the whole quest ended though .

Hope this won't backfire too much later .

Anyone know where you find the two new DLC quests? I've been wondering around but still not come across Missing Miners or Fool's Gold.

Unless I'm stupid and they're in an obvious place that I've overlooked.

Just started on PS4, any suggestions for settings I should change?

I was thinking about ditching the mini map but it seems really handy in case I miss something.

I've never played a Witcher game before this one and knew nothing about the series and I love this game, there are few relationships I don't know much about but you pick it up easily enough, it's a great game and i'm throughly enjoying my time with it.

You miss out on lots of context all the time. The Ciri situation itself is standalone but hearing there's a war because kings got murdered and the region got destabilized and now magicians are hunted is really not the same as being at the center of these events and seeing them play out first-hand. Meeting characters you're supposed to be familiar with, or missing out on the constant references to the previous games. I suppose it depends on how much you want to care about this setting, it's perfectly playable as much as Empire Strikes Back is perfectly watchable without A New Hope.

I saw the Yahtzee review where he said there's a lot of characters from previous games who appear and the characters talk like they're chums and there's no real reintroduction of them.

That said, is it an exaggeration or should I play 1 & 2 before playing this?

There's no need to waste the players time with an introduction. You'll know all you need to know about them by playing, as as you meet characters and learn more about them, their in-game character entry is added and updated, to serve as an informer and reminder of who they are.

I haven't played 1 or 2 before I started, and I'm fine anyway. I watched the recaps and those were fine in getting me familiar with events prior to the third game. Granted, not the same as playing the events, and I am familiar with the characters having read the available offical english translations of the books. YMMV.

I thought they added journal entries for the new dlc or something? I added all the new ones (on pc), but have no idea where to even partake in them...

I sold my ursine armor set so it would be available for me to wear it once I reached the level and its fucking gone.

GOD i have never played a game where the developers just absolutely fucked up the little things so bad.

The simple thing would have been to provide a storage for loot that all RPGs provide, but no the goddamn developers had not provide it for some stupid reason.

Once I am done I am not sure I will ever return to it. The hassles just aren't worth it.

don't make a set you can't wear if you don't have room for it? you can remake it you know.

A lot of people you meet aren't in either of those games either. Just take a quick look at the character bio. Usually it'll say exactly who they are/were to give you context for next time which is plenty.

This is a good thing, it's always terrible when you have chracters who have supposedly been friends for years needing to talk to each other liek they've never met.

There really isn't anything lost by this - all you need to know is that they have history and the rest carries on naturally.

Completed quest logs are weird sometimes. Some of these logs mention stuff that never happened during the actual quest or that happen in the future, so it just makes me all confused.

Like I finished the quest for
Radovid's assassination plot
yesterday, escorted some shoe merchant out of a troll cave that was part of this plot, and the quest just finished like that. I was like "WTF? Where's the rest?", so I look at the log, and it mention a bunch of stuff that make no sense to me.

So, now that I started playing on death march and preparation actually matters, I'm interested in what your favorite decoctions are and what runes you put in your swords/armor.

Should I go for attack power runes or rather chance to burn/poison/bleed?
Playing an alchemy/light attacks build.

Oh Yahtzee reviewed it. Must see if it fared better than the other two.

As to the question. I think it will help but there is also a plethora of characters that haven't shown up in the previous games, yet the game doesn't exactly ease you very well on to their relationship with Geralt when they appear here.

I'm actually surprised there was no sort of backlash for introducing a lot of stuff for the story without taking the time to do it properly. It seems to me that If I didn't read the books, my grasp on all things Ciri, Wild Hunt, Elder Blood, Eredin related would be very weak indeed. Granted I haven't finished the story yet but that's my impression so far.

I am talking to a friend about Gwent cards. Priscilla plays you during the
dandelion rescue mission
. I swear i remember she gave me a card for defeating them. but i can't remember what it was. Looking at some faqs online it seems she doesn't really drop one. Am i wrong?

I did that quest yesterday. I thought it was kind of clear that this was your only part in it, but I assume and hope that this quest will get a continuation in the next arc or something. If I don't see the consequences of it before or at the end of the game then they definitely screwed up.
