Still waiting on buying one. If I can go a full month without reading about some ones X360 getting the Red Rings, I may finally get one.

That makes absolutely no sense: there are millions of old X360s that will obviously continue to RROD at a high rate, yet those failures do not necessarily reflect the reliability of the consoles currently being sold.

Agreed. Where are all the racers? Me-too Sequels and Codemasters garbage dominates. Terrible disappointment. Ditched mine six months ago.

Did you miss the bit where I typed "me-too" sequels? You might consider spending money on the above worthwhile, but I don't. With short fucking memories like this it's no surprise that the 360 is popular.

How the fuck is blatant trolling like this even allowed in a BIRTHDAY thread? You're kind of a tool.

Anyway.

Personally I think this is the best gen ever. Scale is amazing, fidelity is amazing, community stuff is totally awesome. I think a lot of factors have cohered this generation to make some really amazing experiences. At least for the console gamer. I guess all this stuff is old hat for PC gamers, but something like a Left 4 Dead never existed in a previous generation. I mean, look at the Hard Rain campaign. There's no way something that convincing and engrossing could happened on a previous gen machine. There were good games of course, great games, but this gen's technology has given developers the opportunity to do really incredible things.

I don't know, I love it.

I adore this gen. That first year of the 360 was amazing for me, experiencing things like XBLA in its infancy, the streamlined community aspect of Xbox Live in general, and it actually got me into shooters with stuff like CoD2 and GRAW. I finally learned to love them. The software lineup has become very varied with something for everyone. I never would have guessed last gen that this gen, Xbox would be the best system for RPGs.

The hardware obviously was a problem. I had to send back my 360 once. Then I got it back a week and a half later. Oh well. It sucks but I only had to be without it for under two weeks. What can you do? That didn't change the games, features, and overall experience of the console for me. I was on my third PS1 and PS2 by the end of those too. I've actually had better luck with my 360.

Happy b-day. TBH the 360 has been the best/most played console I have had since the Megadrive. XBLA alone has been incredible. Looking forwards to the next couple of years and games.

If I was to highlight one point from this gen that sucked me back into gaming and enjoying the great games that have been released it has been the social aspect to gaming that has been highlighted through the 360 and Xbox Live.

It started with the always on Friends list, messaging and private chat and now has evolved into something where I can jump in party's and chat with a bunch of mates and play games together even though we all now live apart.

The social stuff really has been the hook that got me back and the 360 was the one to do it best for me.

Happy birthday, and I wish at least 2 more to this run before any "next-gen" starts coming out. The publishers got their engines, their assets, their development studios, no need to move away to something with a smaller userbase...

really? all of you reminiscing about the launch, and how amazing COD2 and PGR3 were - no slight feeling of anticipation to have that over again?

Nothing beats a good console launch. Not even Pen Pen Tri-icelon

Both the PS1 and PS2 had a far better balanced games library. Their only weakness was the lack of first person shooters, but that's only because it was a PC only genre at the time.

This generation all consoles (Wii, 360, PS3) have holes in their respective games library, that's because this generation doesn't have an abolute winner. The PS360 don't have enough casual games, the Wii doesn't have enough core games. And there just aren't enough Japanese games on the PS360.

Ummm, FPS, fighting games, and RPGs aren't the only 3 genres out there. The PS2 has BY FAR the most balanced game lineup ever.

Of course we do. But why would you want it 4-5 years later? That's just too soon.

I wasn't too big into gaming in the PS1 and PS2 generations, but the 360...despite my lack of time for gaming compared to the yesteryears, it has had the most mileage with the variety of games I have enjoyed.

The hardware failure rates are an unfortunate thing though...my first one had its CD drive shot, had it fixed but ended up with the red ring anyways. Not sure how this second unit. Most of everyone I know who plays with the 360 often do end up with the rrod, so it's quite bad tbh.

I'm still hoping to get mileage on it, 2-3 more years please? I'm tired of buying new hardware like its the Olympics.

Oh yeah....HAPPY BIRTHDAY...You don't look a day older...

What if I like games where you are a fictional creature that walks around different planets and the moon eating people and objects and stretching myself then reporting how much I have stretched to my love interest so she can stretch further into space? What if I like games like this?

To me everything about its look & feel is ugly (color, shape) and cheap (for instance the cd drive).
I hope they release a slim version* before the end of its cycle.

I could care less about what it looks like. I just don't want a console that's guaranteed
to breakdown overtime. So a "slim / revision" is what i'm hoping for with all the technical
errors wiped out. Until then, i've been playing 360 on my sucker friend's 360. Its his 3rd
360 console, btw.

Such blatant trolling while still a Junior Member can be a bit risky...

With the indie games, XBLA games, and getting me back into western RPGs, I have to say that the 360 has really gone beyond what I expected of it. Good job, Microsoft.

Its not trolling...Its the truth! Trolling is when you make-up shit and nothing to back it up.
Are you telling me this isn't a problem on a grand scale?

I'm not trashing the 360's content ( games ). They're fucking awesome !!! But I don't like it
when companies don't work out their console kinks in a prompt fashion. I haven't bought the 360, yet. I play on my friend's 360 because he could give a rat's ass if a corporation does him wrong. I'm just not giving my money to Microsoft until they fix the problem - 4 years and counting.

PS: I do own the original Xbox. That console seems to hold up way better than 360.
What gives ????

Happy birthday! Barely ever/hated playing games on it up till a few years ago when a few things happened:

- My brother got one (for co-op fun).
- I got one of the green better dpad controllers.
- They let you install games to the hard disc to shut the f**king jet engine lawn mower sound up while playing. YUUUUUUUUUUUS SO HAPPY TO HAVE SILENT FFXI AGAIN!

Now I play Xbox 360 heaps. Always worried about the terrible machine faults etc, but it does have a great library of games and achievements are 'cool' for OCD people like me.

Then notice a pattern. But don't evade a major problem for 360 consumers.
Its a shame that you look at whistleblowers as trolls.

you might want to keep up to date on events that have happened over the past few years.

like for instance when msft acknowledged the problem and extended their warranties.

thus, your whistleblowing assistance in this case is no longer needed!

My launch 360 died just before its 4th birthday ;________;

Oh well, at least I'll be getting glorious HDMI whenever I can afford a new one.

I think my launch 360 would still be working as it did not die from RROD, but from it failing to send out a tv signal all of a sudden. Maybe the back of it got to hot but I had it repaired anyway.

The 360 while it had a rocky start is up there with my Dreamcast as consoles I never want to sell.

I'm kept up-to-date and BEYOND, thank you !
So bascially, they'll fix your console under warranty for the time being. But they won't get the root of the problem that causes RROD / Errors in the first place. I won't settle for that !

What, you feel intimidated by pics of a recurring problem after 4 years?
Please be honest.

I don't really play my 360 that much (lack of money to purchase every new game and lack of big HDTV [at the moment]) but I've never had the RROD and I've had it for two years.
I unplug my 360 to conserve power; maybe this has a factor in its health (plus ventilation)?

Well the 360 has a great lineup of games both the PS1 and PS2 have a better library of games that offer something for everyone as well and I don't think the library of the 360 is up to that yet and it might by the end of the generation but we will see.

While it was one of the first systems that I did not get on day one (I remember watching that TV special with Frodo and just shuddering). The 360 has definately become one of my favorite systems of all time.

Anyone who says this gen sucks either hasn't played enough games or is an elitist snob who reads Pitchfork and thinks Kid A is better than The Bends.

Even with the awful launch and shoddy HW, it is the best system I have owned. The controller is pretty much perfection in form, with the D-pad the only performance flaw.

But . . . it's getting a bit long in the tooth. Time to launch a new system MS.

They released a piece of hardware that wasn't quality assured and didn't work. They must have known this going to market. I think that's what so frustrating about the whole RROD episode. MS acted as if they didn't know any better when in fact they took advantage of all the early adopters. They only ponied up when they realised they could lose market share to Sony.

Whatever, I'm still loving my 360. The online is just incredible. I can't tell you how much fun I'm having on MW2 right now, thanks to LIVE.

My 360 is going on, 3 years strong with no sign of RROD or any other problems. All systems have thier problems. My friend's new slim PS3 was giving her error readings on a brand new Rock Band 2 disk, and thier is a thread on GAF about PS3 having the yellow light of death. But that the above problems wouldn't stop me from buying a PS3 if I wanted to play some of thier games.

Also, you say you don't have a 360 and you say you don't like the games or content on the 360, then why are you in this thread??? TO troll that is why. I guess you don't like most of the games on the HD systems, becuase both the Xbox 360, and the PS3 have 80% of the same games.

Had it day 1, camped out in front of the now defunk CompUSA with a portable bomb fire.

The fact that the 360 from technical and retail cost aspect is still keeping up with PS3\PC(mostly) is pretty remarkable.

Years of waiting? They release a new version of the music games each year.

I'm mainly referring to map packs and extra single player content, stuff that PC users used to always get for free.
Years of waiting for the original Rock Band to come out with all the content available as of today, instead of two years ago with 58 songs.
